Westfield Cultural Council Call for Members The WCC is currently seeking residents with an interest in supporting diverse cultural events and programming within Westfield to serve on the Council beginning in late 2018. This all-volunteer organization is appointed by the mayor and is funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. A list of past grantees and guidelines can be found at https://www.mass-culture. org/westfield. Dakin Humane Society Offers Free Feral Spay Day Clinics The last Wednesday of the month has been designated a Free Feral Spay Day Clinic at Dakin Humane Society’s Community Spay/Neuter Clinic at 171 Union Street in Springfield, MA. Feral cats are also known as “community cats,” and are un-owned felines who are born and live outdoors. People who humanely trap ferals can bring them to Dakin for spay/neuter surgery at no fee on Free Feral Spay Days. Following the surgery, and in accordance with TNR (trap/neuter/return) practices, people then return the ferals to their outdoor colonies. Normally the spay/ neuter fee for ferals at Dakin is $40. Dakin has humane traps that can be loaned but require a refundable deposit and a nominal daily fee for usage. In addition to the spay/neuter surgery, the cats will receive a rabies vaccination and ear tip. The ear tip involves the removal of the top quarter-inch of the cat’s left ear while he/she is under anesthesia. It enables the cat to be easily identified from afar as already spayed or neutered. People who trap ferals and want to participate in the monthly clinic are required to register online in advance. Visit https:// www.dakinhumane.org/surgeryfor-feral-cats.html to look up the clinic date of choice. Upcoming clinic dates are June 27 and July 25. The organization shelters, treats and fosters more than 20,000 animals each year and has performed more than 80,000 spay/neuter surgeries since 2009, making it New England’s largest spay/ neuter provider. Libraries Rock with Music!

June is all about kicking off our 14th Annual Adult Summer Reading Program! The fun begins on Monday, June 25th at our READLocal author event. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and greet nine local authors. Books will be available for purchase and signing and each author will have a few minutes to discuss their latest book. Refreshments will be provided by Partner’s. Reader’s BINGO is back this summer! Our readers will have the opportunities to win daily and weekly raffle prizes, as well as the grand prize. This year, winning is as easy as completing a BINGO square. For each square completed, readers will receive a scratch ticket with the chance to win a small prize. Those scratch tickets will then be entered into a raffle for the weekly prizes, $25 gift cards.

Fridays beginning June 29 @ 11:00 a.m. June 29; July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3 and 10. Fridays will be rockin’ with Jimmy Buffet, Ike & Tina Turner, Harry Connick, Jr., Elton John, James Taylor & Carole King, Elvis, and Jason Aldean. Concerts will be available through our new Qello Concert Service. No registration necessary! Just come and enjoy a “live” concert! Registration for Adult programs begins on June 11th.
