Babe Ruth Baseball World Series Tickets on sale Now WESTFIELD — The Babe Ruth Baseball World Series is coming to Westfield, August 11 – 18. Now is the time to step up to the plate to support Greater Westfield Babe Ruth by purchasing tickets in advance at discount prices.

Westfield’s Black Squirrel Day Celebration June 4, WESTFIELD — Westfield is fortunate to have Black Squirrels. They are very rare in this country. It is estimated that there are 10,000 “other colored” squirrels for each black squirrel. The profusion of black Squirrels in the Westfield area is a curious phenomenon. As the story goes, they were first brought here in 1948 as a gift to Frank Stanley Beveridge, the founder of Stanly Park. Six squirrels were released in the park

Cherry St. Studio Open House WESTFIELD — The Marie Flahive Art Studio invites the public to an Open House and Art Show at its newly renovated location on the ground floor level at 22 Cherry St. Saturday June 4th from 10am-4pm. Flahive, an artist and teacher, relocated from 22 Arnold St as part of the Downtown Renewal Program. In addition to her studio gallery and showings with these groups, Flahive’s paintings are represented by Sheepgate in Blandford, MA. She is a graduate of Elms College and University of Mass., Amherst.

West Springfield Fish Ladder open house WEST SPRINGFIELD — The Westfield River Watershed Association invites the public to the annual West Springfield fish ladder open house on Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This oncea-year opportunity to tour the fish ladder, located on the Westfield River, offers a chance to look at migrating fish through a small observation window, as well as learn from WRWA board members about the basic operation of the ladder and insights into the life cycles of the fish. The fish ladder, opened in 1995 at the large dam on the site, provides access to upstream waters for migratory fish returning to the river and its tributaries to spawn. Species that may be spotted include

American shad, sea lamprey and blueback herring. This one-day-a-year chance to visit the West Springfield fish ladder is free to the public.

Parking is available in the former Southworth Paper Company parking lot at 150 Front Street in West Springfield. A flat half-mile long path leads from the parking lot to the dam where the fish ladder is located. The event will be held rain or shine. Bring sun protection and wear comfortable walking shoes. The open house is sponsored by the Westfield River Watershed Association in cooperation with A&D Hydro, Inc. and the Mass.

Trio Brings Bluegrass, Country To Huntington Huntington The Berkshire Mountain Boys take the stage on Sunday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the second event of the 2016 North Hall Arts Festival. ‘Sing and Paint ~ Tulips’ Alzheimer’s Fundraiser at the Westfield Senior Center What could be more fun than combining upbeat music with creativity and socialization, all to raise money for a good cause? The Council On Aging, in partnership with the Arbors at Westfield, will hold a ‘Sing and Paint ~ Tulips’ on Wednesday, June 15 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The event will begin with a concert performed by the Senior

Once those creative juices have started flowing through song, MaryBeth Reed from Paint Craze will facilitate the painting portion of the event.

Each participant will leave with an original painting depicting tulips. All materials and refreshments are included in the $35 registration fee.

And best of all, $10 from each registration will go directly to our local Alzheimer’s Association. You don’t have to be an artist to participate.

All that’s needed is a desire to sing, paint, socialize, support the Alzheimer’s cause, and most importantly, have fun!

'Robert Frost in Story and Song' GRANVILLE — Don’t miss this exciting presentation of poetry and music at the NCCHP museum on Wednesday, June 15th at 6:30 PM at 42 Water St. in Granville. Walt Woodward, the CT State Historian and Associate Professor of History at UCONN, shares stories about the poet’s life and work, including a number of his poems. “The Band of Steady Habits” will perform songs from the 20th and 21st centuries that reflect the moods of the poems.

Prof. Woodward is a scholar of Early American history, with an emphasis on Connecticut and New England. His research interests cover a variety of subjects, including the history of science, and the use of music in Early America.

The free Living History programs at the NCCHP museum are made possible in

part thanks to a grant from the Granville Cultural Council and by donations from members and friends of the museum. Thank you for your continued support in 2016.
