At home with Trivia By JAY BERGER I have a love of Quiz Shows, Trivia, and particularly fond of two shows on TV. One of the shows is “Jeopardy “and the other is “ Schools Match Wits.” Jeopardy is on our channel Monday thru Friday and Schools Match Wits is on Saturday. Unlike most quiz shows, Jeopardy gives the contestant the answer and the contestant gives back the question. Probably the reverse of most quiz shows. Jeopardy was developed by Merv Griffin and the current host Alex Trebek has been in charge for thirty years. Trebek is congenial, knowledgeable and a stickler for correct enunciation and pronunciation. I am beginning to think that I may share a trait similar to that of “ Raymond” in

the movie “Rain Man”. Wherever Raymond was at 7:00 PM, he had to Watch “Judge Wapner”. That was a popular show similar to todays “Judge Judy”. I’m the same way with

that standpoint about crime and mysteries. Her sidekick is a Detective who must stop chasing bad guys at 7:30 PM and get in front of a TV set to watch Jeopardy. I guess I am not the only weirdo in the world. My love of “Schools Match Wits” stems from when our elder son was a contestant on the show. young high school students compete for their school against another school . Eventually at the seasons end, it comes down to two schools competing for the title of Champion . Perhaps there is something other than Football, Basketball, Hockey, Baseball or Soccer…… although when each contestant gives their bio, most also compete in some sport. Some nights I do quite well in responding on Jeopardy or “Schools” and other nights not so well, but for certain; I do not have the speed that the contestants on the show have. They are lightning fast and I believe that it has to do with how fast they are able to read the questions before Alex Trebek reads it to them. A contestant is not allowed to ring in for the question before the Trebek’s reading is complete. On “Schools Match Wits” many of the questions are given orally. So it takes great concentration on the students part. The amount of time given to repond is minimum in order to move the show along. Even when a series of questions wll be shown on the screen, the student contestant must answer quickly. I am certain that at some point in the future, I’ll move

OPAL Hi there, if I look a bit scared & timid in my picture that was before I really knew that I was safe at a shelter. When I first arrived at the shelter my hair was all matted, so matted I could hardly move my head. I was also quite dirty, I did not feel very well. But now I have a brand new hairdo, for a Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mix it is quite short, but wait until you see how it looks when it grows back in. I won’t recognize myself I will look so good & healthy, with my new blonde locks. I feel like a new girl now. My name is Opal, I am a 5 yr female weighing in at about 5 lbs. I would love to have you come & see me with my new hair do, I am feeling so much better & ready to go to my forever home. I have a lot of love to give, I would love to share that with you. I am really small, so I could roll up & fit right into your lap. Oh what a team we would make, I promise you that I wouldn’t be any trouble at all. Opal is a little love bug.
For more information please call (413) 564-3129 or stop by the Westfield Regional Animal Shelter 178 Apremont Way, Westfield, MA
MOLLEY Molley is our beautiful, friendly, loveable, good will spokesperson all wrapped up in a mid-size, boxer type, mixed breed dog. Molley is a 2 yr old beautiful girl with eyes that will make you fall in love with her, if you could just come to the shelter & take the time to look. Those eyes will melt your heart. She walks well on a leash, keeps her kennel really clean, loves to roll in the snow, is what everyone calls “a good dog.” Molley is really friendly, will purr in your arms if you just scratch her belly, yes I think she really would purr if she could. This is a dog with a personality that everyone looks for & wants in a canine companion, & given the chance she so well deserves, she will turn out to be your best friend. You will never be lonely again with Molley in your home, if you are sad just look into those eyes one more time & that will put a smile on your face & a lift to your soul. With the winter months here, we are in need of canned dog food for all our canine guests. Thank you from all of us at the Westfield Regional Animal Shelter; a Shelter that Westfield can be very proud of.

Available early Summer 2014 Nonotuck Resource Associates is a community-based agency that has provided residential services to people with intellectual disabilities in Massachusetts since the early 1970's. We offer services to people who need assistance to remain living in a home setting. Searching for a couple who are both energetic, health conscious, and spiritual. Join a family group of two brothers and a sister. All three are adults, in their early thirties, with a developmental disability. Our agency is working closely with their parents to find a couple who would like to move into a newly restored three story building in a charming neighborhood in Westfield. Responsibilities will include; planning and sharing in meals, helping manage finances, appointments, oversee planning of daily social and volunteer activities, and essentially joining a huge network of family and friends who are intertwined in their lives. Interviews begin immediately, training will be offered shortly after interviews, and a move-in date is planned for early summer. The Shared Living Provider will receive a generous tax-exempt stipend, training, and ongoing support from the Nonotuck team.

Hyper • Local
When it comes to 21st century multimedia platforms, “hyper local” is a term you hear a lot. It’s not a new idea. In fact, The Westfield News has been providing readers with “hyper local” news coverage of Westfield, Southwick, and the Hilltowns all along. Television, radio and regional newspapers only provide fleeting coverage of local issues you care about. TV stations and big newspaper publishers, after years of cutbacks and mergers, frankly aren’t able to provide in-depth coverage of smaller markets anymore. But, day in and day out, The Westfield News provides consistant coverage of the stories you need to know about, that are important to your city, town, neighborhood and home.
