Insurance Mini Fair at the Westfield Senior Center WESTFIELD – Recently, many local older adults received a letter from Baystate Noble Hospital alerting past patients that beginning in 2019, Fallon Health and United HealthCare will no longer contract with Westfield’s community hospital. Patients under those plans would have to utilize a different designated hospital for their health care needs. In order to provide accurate information on changing health plans for continued coverage at Baystate Noble Hospital, should participants choose to do so, representatives from both Health New England and Tufts will be at the Westfield Senior Center, 45 Noble Street, on Tuesday, December 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. No appointments are necessary to speak with a representative.

10 - Sunday. November 18, 2018 SUPPER CLUB LAUNCHING AT ACC A new, exciting “Supper Club” series is being launched by Agawam Congregational Church at 745 Main Street with a special themed evening of supper and music. The first is a scheduled holiday supper with holiday music to be held Saturday, December 15th at 5:00 p.m. with a very special, catered meal by Agawam’s American Classics Restaurant. The menu offering includes 3 delicious courses of a colorful salad, chicken Française, red-roasted potatoes, Manhattan-blend vegetables, rolls, butter, cheesecake dessert, and beverages. Each supper in the series will be catered by a different Agawam restaurant with its own specialty supper club meal offering. A theme for each supper will feature music recognizable of the
specialty’s origin. The suppers give the church the opportunities for major fundraising and the local restaurants receive additional recognition of their menu offerings. The idea was a suggestion by the church’s pastor Rev. Dr. Gregory Dawson. Church member Roberta Page contacted several Agawam restaurants to review the concept. Tickets purchased for the December 15th supper at the church are $20. The evening’s attendees will receive a $5.00 Gift Certificate for American Classic’s Restaurant at 740 Springfield Street. Reservations and payment are required by Wednesday, December 12th and only 100 tickets will be available. Call the church office at 413-786-7111 or the restaurant at 413-789-2203. Credit cards may be used by calling the restaurant number.

Light Up The Night...
The holiday season is about to start, and this year, you're truly getting into the spirit by decorating every nook and cranny inside and outside your home. For the first time ever, you're putting up Christmas lights on the exterior of your home. Congratulations. Here are some tips. First, go outside and take a good look around your home. Right away, you will probably see several key areas that need to be lit up. These may include evergreens, bushes, porches and more. Eaves are another popular place where many people choose to string lights, but be wary if yours are high or difficult to get to. You don't want to risk life and limb stringing up lights and removing them later. The Perfect Party Menu The holiday season has arrived, and the to-do lists are stacking up. You've got decorating to do, gifts to buy and parties to plan. Better get a move on fast. Here are some factors to consider to help you plan the perfect party menu every time.
What? What kind of party are you having? A dinner party? A fondue party? A cocktail party? A formal dinner party for 12 will require a larger menu than a fondue or cocktail party for 15. You will need a full-course meal for the dinner party, whereas you may opt for a few hors-d’oeuvre trays for the fondue or cocktail party. Why? Why are you having the party? To gather everyone together to celebrate the holidays? To celebrate the holidays and an anniversary, birthday or some other special event? The more elaborate the occasion, the more elaborate the menu may need to be. A combo holidaypromotion celebration, for example, might call for a cake and champagne in addition to several hors-d’oeuvres.

Who? Whom are you inviting to the party? Everyone you know? A select few? The more people you invite, the wider the menu selection should be to cater to a number of tastes. If you are inviting just a few friends, you should know their likes and dislikes and be able to cater your menu to 15B College Hwy • Southampton, MA 01073 • 413-527-5613 that. Make sure you take any special dietary needs of your guests into accommodation. If someone is a vegetarian, diabetic or has food allergies, for example, you will want to account for that in the menu. When? When are you having the party? Late morning? Mid-afternoon? Early evening? The time will dictate the type and amount of food you serve. A late morning party might call for a full brunch buffet, whereas a mid-afternoon tea party might call for a few pots of tea and a sheetcake.
Where? Where are you having the party? At home? Somewhere else? Home
parties may require you to plan the menu, whereas a party elsewhere might limit the menu planning or eliminate it altogether. If you are having a get-together at the local bowling alley, for example, you might be able to order several pizzas for everyone to munch on and leave it at that.
hoW? How will the menu be prepared? Will you be doing all of the work your-
self or bringing in someone to do it for you? Depending upon where the party is located, you may be able to save yourself some time and effort by having the food catered. It may cost you more, but it may permit you to have a bigger Have Yourself a Beautiful Holiday! spread. You may serve whatever you want at your holiday party. Just make sure you take the factors above into consideration and your menu suits the tone of the party. While cookies and milk might satisfy a bunch of kids at a holiday party late in the afternoon, it won’t work for a table of adults looking forward to a late night holiday dinner.

Unique Christmas Traditions From Around The World...
From glazed ham to Elf on the Shelf, American Christmas traditions are something special. But, have you ever thought of Christmas traditions around the world? It’s pretty cool to see how a religious celebration can be infused with cultural food and traditional activities. Even Santa Claus and his outfit might be different than what you are used to. Every country has unique traditions influenced by so much rich history. It is especially interesting to look at how a country’s geography and climate impact the festivities. After all, many Americans associate the festive Christmas season with a winter wonderland full of snow-capped trees. And we can’t forget about the hot cocoa, cozy blankets, and warm fireplace. Yet, in other countries, beaches and tropical plants are in the spotlight on Christmas. Who says pine trees should get all the fun, anyway?

Japan: In Japan, the holiday is typically seen as a day of happiness and romance, not religion. Many couples even celebrate the day like an American Valentine’s Day. To top it off, a traditional Japanese Christmas dinner is KFC fried chicken. You even have to make a reservation if you want to score a bucket on Christmas day. FInLanD: The Finn-
ish Christmas season starts on the First Advent, which falls on the first Sunday in December. Like Americans, children in Finland use advent calendars to count down the days until Christmas. Celebrations usually last until two weeks past the actual holiday.

While many British Christmas traditions have been adopted by Americans, there are still many differences. Children place their stockings at the foot of their beds, hoping it will be filled with treats. Paper crowns are just as popular as Santa hats. And then there’s Boxing Day on Dec. 26, a popular shopping day for Brits. It’s a lot like Black Friday in America.

Unique Traditions continued... this day features 12 different dishes to represent the 12 apostles. It’s usually meatless and full of bread, honey, and veggies. Christmas Day usually calls for a main course of meat. As for Santa? His name is Ded Moroz, which translates to “Grandfather Frost.” Australian Christmas traditions are full of beaches, palm trees, and sunshine. Our winter is their summer, after all. Christmas dinner usually involves seafood like prawns and lobsters. Caroling is especially popular, starting a week before Christmas Day.

BRAZIL: A Brazilian Christmas dinner is full of Portuguese dishes, rice, nuts, and fruits. Turkey and codfish are the popular meats of choice. Decorations usually roll out in November or earlier. Furthermore, people take part in a gift-swapping tradition called “amigo secreto.” It’s the Brazilian version of ~ you guessed it ~ Secret Santa. INDIA: In India, Christians decorate mango and banana trees. And
like most Indian traditions, Christmas celebrations are lively and colorful. Indian Christmas traditions also call for tons of sweets. Trading Christmas gifts isn’t common, though. Instead, everyone fuels up on delicious food and brings treats to their friends and neighbors.
PHILIPPINES: Filipinos start celebrating Christmas in September and stop in January. Extravagant decor is a must. Many homes hang up parols, which are lights made of bamboo and paper. A nine-day celebration also takes place (Simbang Gabi) leading up to Christmas Eve. This night, also known as Noche Buena, calls for a huge family celebration with lots of food. JAMAICA: Christmas in Jamaica is full of happiness and joy. On Christmas Eve, every town hosts a “Grand Market” event. This celebration is equal parts festival and market, featuring a medley of shopping, eating, and dancing. A parade called Jonkanoo also takes place. Often, people continue to celebrate at a midnight mass. As for dinner? A typical Jamaican Christmas dinner will include foods like rice, oxtail, chicken, curry goat, roast ham, and rum-soaked fruit cake.

Hany’s Barber Shop Wishes Everyone a Happy Holiday!
Your company throws a holiday party every year, and most of the time, you don't go because you have another engagement or a million things to do. This year, though, there is a break in your schedule and you are going. Make sure you dress and act professionally. Office holiday parties are an occasion to have fun, but not to go overboard. You will not be under close scrutiny, but you will be watched, so check yourself at the door and never lose sight of the fact that the party is a business event. Find out the details of the party beforehand. Are guests allowed? Some office parties are restricted to employees only, while others allow employees to bring a guest. What is the dress code? Whether formal or casual, dress conservatively. Reserve the flashy stuff for parties with friends. Arrive to the party on or near time, stay at least half an hour and leave at a reasonable time. Don't roll in an hour after the party starts, sit down and chat for 10 minutes, and leave. Your brief appearance could very well be noted.

Be professional. Again, this is a business event, so don't cut loose and throw caution to the wind. Your superiors will be in attendance and will be fully aware of your behavior. Drink in moderation and mingle with others. Use the time to really work the room and say hello to all of those folks you haven't seen in a while. While you mingle, keep the conversation casual. Don't talk business, flirt or gossip. Steer clear of off-color jokes and controversial subjects. Office holiday parties can be fun. Think of yours as an opportunity to get together with coworkers and catch up on all of things you've been missing without worrying about all of the work sitting on your desk.

It’s a month of family fun for everyone! There are other seasonal happenings that are happening that we also encourage folks to attend. We Want To Play Kids love to play games, and since there's a little bit of kid in all of us, why not get family and friends together during the holidays and have some plain, old-fashioned fun. Besides traditional board games, you can create spur-of-the-moment holiday activities with simple items you have around the house. Christmas card toss finds a use for those outdated cards that you haven't been able to just throw away. Distribute five cards to each player and place a laundry basket about six feet in front of each person. With timer set, players attempt to toss their cards into their own basket. The winner is the one who makes the most baskets. Sound easy? You may be surprised.

Children will especially enjoy playing the Santa Beard game. Divide into two teams and have players cover their chins with petroleum jelly. Set up two bowls of cotton balls (smaller ones work best) on the opposite side of the room. At the signal, the first players in line run to their bowl of cotton balls and stick in their chins, trying to pick up as many cotton balls as possible (no hands allowed). They return to the line and the next player takes a turn. When all the players have finished, remove the beards and count the cotton balls. The winning team is the one with the most cotton balls. In case of a tie, the team that finishes first is declared the winner. (Be sure to have plenty of paper towels at hand.)
Santa's bag is great for car trips or when you want a more quiet activity. The first player starts by saying, "I packed Santa's bag and in it I put a toy train." The next person says, "I packed Santa's bag and in it I put a toy train and a doll house." Each person continues by repeating the previous phrase and adding a new item. If someone forgets an item, they are out of the game. • Pizza • Grinders • Calzones The winner is the last • Salads • Appetizers person who can remember everything.
• Italian Dinners and More!
Holidays are an opportunity for a variety of activities. Help keep your season funfilled by being creative while making memories with family and friends.

Looking Forward to the Holidays The holiday season is finally upon us, and the lights, trees, and cheer are all over. There is no better time of the year, and unless you are Scrooge or the Grinch, you are on happy camper. Here is a list of the best thing about the holiday season to get you excited! Christmas Trees: There is nothing more exciting the going to pick out a tree and gathering around with people you love to add all the lights and ornaments. It brightens up anyone’s day. Chance of Snow: Who doesn’t dream of a white Christmas? Even as a kid growing up in Texas, I always hoped for snow. That small chance is what makes the holidays awesome. Lights: Walking around and seeing all the pretty lights can make anyone smile. Everything just glistens more during this season. Hot Chocolate: Hot Chocolate warms the soul, and this is the best season for it. Ornaments: The holiday decorations are everywhere, and the cute knickknacks add the best cheer no matter where you’re at.
that special someone under some mistletoe? Carols and Music: Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls, Winter Wonderland, Let It Snow, and all those others that we can help but hum to during this season. Santa: Old Saint Nick brought wonder and joy to us as children, and still is secretly a favorite for adults. Eggnog: Eggnog is great, spiked eggnog is even better. Gingerbread houses and men: A house made out of cookies and candy? It must be the holidays! Time of Giving: The holidays also bring out the best in others, because it is important to make sure that we remember those who are less fortunate.
Parties: There are so many parties during this season! Everyone wants an excuse to stand under mistletoe, drink spiked eggnog, and spread the cheer.
Time with Friends and Family: This is the time to gather and remember how lucky we are to have people around us who love us. Family can sometimes be unbearable, but at the end of the day, they will always be there.
Ugly Christmas Sweaters: An excuse to wear an ugly sweater is always acceptable. No one can tell me they don’t secretly love wearing these awful awful sweaters. Presents: The holidays shouldn’t be about the presents, but we all secretly love getting them. How can anyone not look forward to unwrapping a gift and being surprised? Treats: This is one of the few seasons where treats are abundant, and there are no limits to how many candy canes, gingerbread men, or peppermint bark you can eat. Stockings: Stockings are pretty awesome, unless you get coal in yours. Then they are pretty terrible. Mistletoe: Is there any better excuse to bump into

Snowmen: Building snowmen is so much fun, and if you are lucky enough to have snow during the holiday season, a snowman is in order. Classic Christmas Movies: Christmas movies time is upon us, and it is time to pull out old favorites and get cozy. The Chance to Feel Like a Kid Again: Whether you are 5 or 85, the holiday season is a time to really just enjoy yourself and reflect on all the good things in life.

Huntington Town Hall seeks paintings Huntington Town Hall has been displaying local artists’ paintings for the past few years. Visitors regularly commented on the beautiful paintings hanging on our walls. Inevitably things change, and we are once again seeking artists to display their paintings or photos at the Huntington Town Hall. Local artists are encouraged to contact the Huntington Selectboard Office at (413) 512-5200. The Wild Goose is coming to Sacred Heart Parish The Wild Goose Bible Study, Discovering a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit featuring Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR. This is a study with no written homework, this is a study that is solely spirit filled; that will lead you to a place of mercy, healing, peace and presence. Along with the study we will have Praise and Worship Music Ministry to bring us further into prayerfulness; when we sing his praises, we are praying twice! The Wild Goose is a term that the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to lead us to the heart of God. This study will take place on the second Monday of each month from 6:30 – 8:00pm in our Parish Center. You will have an opportunity for fellowship and light refreshments. There is no charge for this bible study and everyone is welcome to come. A free will offering would be graciously appreciated to offset any costs. Please contact our Pastoral Minister, Deb Briancesco with any questions at 786-8200 ext 3.

Hyper • Local
When it comes to 21st century multimedia platforms, “hyper local” is a term you hear a lot.
The Westfield News
It’s not a new idea. In fact, The Westfield News has been providing readers with “hyper local” news coverage of Westfield, Southwick, and the Hilltowns all along. Television, radio and regional newspapers only provide fleeting coverage of local issues you care about. TV stations and big newspaper publishers, after years of cutbacks and mergers, frankly aren’t able to provide in-depth coverage of smaller markets anymore.
