Poppyseed Thunderpants Pandacake Wolfe-Carlin Baby boston terrier her body is so tiny Stroke her fur By my side when I am sad Poppy is like a classroom light, she is automatically energetic. She sits in front of the heater in her bed like it is a heat basket. I sit by her side. It is like she is willingly in jail. Her eyes are a deep chestnut with lovely eye capsules that stare at you longingly until you give her a treat. As I stroke my hand down poppy’s back her eyes get all wide like I have put the biggest juiciest treat in front of her. The reaction of when people see her will always be the same. “she’s so cute!” her birthday is in 4 days. She will be turning 1. I will always remember the first time I saw her face. The little paws touched my face. She had been born a few months before. She misses her brother and sisters so much, I wish we could have gotten them all. as me and mommy leave the house she trembles like a leaf. The cute little baby! By Phoebe W.C.

Wednesday at the Willows Early morning, driving car Then dropped off, at the door. Skipping, jumping, running, play And Now it’s time to start the day! We start with math, and I say, “Yay!”, But everyone else just says, “Neigh!” I jot down numbers, letters, signs. Then close my book, cause it’s snack time! First I eat, then I play, With caring friends that all say, “Yay!” Until we stop while teachers say, “4a we have music today!” Tick, tock, bang Ring, ring, rang With instruments we love to play! Making music, all is fun, Now poetry has just begun! Working rhymes with our best times As we jot until the end of the day! But wait we’re done, Planets have begun So we’ll start right now, today! Mercury, Mercury, poster, sign. Jotting up games of mine. Writing, rehearsing, yawning, tired. Carpool starts up for awhile. And while I’m sitting in my car, I think if I could have done more. I wonder what the world would be, Without the Willows, life for me. ~Matti

WORK DAYS I wake up in the morning My hair all messed and dry I pound my alarm clock forcefully Well… maybe I just try I run into the kitchen I burn my eggs and toast But wait something’s missing It was the bacon I had to roast. I sit and sit in traffic I punch the horn and yell The cars doing the same And smoke’s coming out of the grill. I stampede into my office I sit down in my chair My computer showing e-mails I forgot my messy hair. Everyone in the office is staring I try not to cry But then at that very moment My computer just dies. I go into my meeting I sit down with my boss I try not to fade While he yaps about the cost. I head into the break room I grab a cup of tea I spill it on my pants It looks like I just peed. When I get home that night I open the door to see I have left the oven on And the gas is going “wheeee!” I rush to turn it off I succeed for once in the day I plump down on my bed And learn that I sat on some clay. I sit down on my sofa I try not to cry I know tomorrow is a new day And I let out a large sigh. ~Wyatt

Monster in the Closet In the closet while I sleep, lies the monster that I seek. His name is Rezzoçh the Ancient. His skin is yellow, blue, and green, and he only has a tooth or two. His tongue is blood orange, and I’m sure his feet are too. Speaking of his feet, he has many more than you. Moving on to the subject of school, I forgot my homework a time or two. It ended up in good times too! Sure you think that might be wrong, but I like sitting next to the wall. I’ve done a lot of tests, and I’ve gotten a lot wrong, but I don’t care. You might think that’s bad, but it doesn’t really matter, because eventually, you’ll forget it, and I will too. Anyway, in the end, I go to bed and think to the monster, and school, and the great day I had. Speaking of a great day, I hope you had a good one too. By Jack

How to Sneak Out of Your House

First you need to say you are very tired, then say you love your parents. Say for them to knock on the door and if you don’t answer don’t enter. Lay for a little before they sleep, then put some pillows under your covers and then it’s time to sneak. Now it’s time for you to decide what is next maybe your friend’s house or even a fuller house or maybe a game but I recommend a candy or two. Since I taught you, please bring me with you. Where should we go? We use my idea or yours? Oh and don’t forget when sun rises, get home quick! Or else you will get caught. You wouldn't want that to happen. You might get grounded till December. My Inner Poet My inner poet likes to fly with the asteroids in space. She likes to play with the earth. She is as big as the galaxy. She knows everything that happens. She lives on the stars. Every night she wishes to have friends and to be small. She can make the stars shoot. Every wish you make she keeps under her pillow. She keeps the bad dreams in a dark cellar that she never even looks at. The good dreams she keeps under her pillow so she can suck them up like a lollypop with no stick. By, Alex

My inner poet My inner poet comes from a rocky outcropping next to the ocean. Every day he climbs down the cliffs to his kayak. Once he gets in his kayak he steers the small boat out to sea, letting the ocean mist calm him. Once he can see nothing but the mist around him, he writes, writes until the fog disappears. Then he fishes, fishes until he can't see the fog around his face. By Asher

At night when the stars don’t light up anything but the sky This place lights up A giggle or two might come up when you walk in If you think so hard in this castle your thoughts might come true Everyone in the family can come You don’t need directions Because it lights up so much it shows you the way It might be invisible in day but it’s a party at night It’s how YOU

A long time ago, one million blades of grass were GREEN, and the birds just couldn’t stop SINGING. and the world is TOUGH But that place is And the sun ZOOMS by And the sky is DARK. Depth Within Earth The sky is shallow. Visions lie lonely in time. Take a bite out of the cold peach. Stars fly. Sit behind the window. I see a blowing shadow coming closer to me But then it disappears. I ache, but why? A question that has an easy, but true answer. I cry so hard I start a flood. Time boils and I hear music fly In the thick white clouds. ~Kaleo

A tree outlined by white. A black tree. Not colored. Drawn around. Like drawing air. But only in certain places. With intention. The tree sits on a ladder, as if being held up, to catch the light of the frame. A bicycle wheel is attached to the ladder, with frames scattered around. Stars That Are Not There if you look up at the sky with no light it is when it is most beautiful. when the moon is a wheel in an empty space and there are no stars, what is the reason to look up? when mountains and fields are below distracting what is the reason to care for a place that is older than us? do we control anything? in a world that is too small for us, where do we go now? the sky is a place we do not know yet we act like we know everything. ~ Jake M.

Adventures at Sea with a Muse Pirate Other than just quiet thinking to one’s self, it can be hard to get inspiration for free. Not just is it in a deep cave guarded by leprechaun lions, the worst kind of cheese, and that word that you can never think of that have merged together and smell a bit old, but there is also the problem of if you will allow yourself to even try. It is the hardest part, yes, but also the most fascinating. After sacrifices of letting go from the past, and finding more about people you know, all just to get free inspiration, one should realize that it wasn’t free at all. A little discontent at first, but after some careful consideration, one should come to notice that no inspiration should be at no cost. It just wouldn’t be the same. And if you ask me,

it would be much, much worse.

Sadly, this is what happens in the wilderness. In the middle of nowhere in a grassy field

a stampede of gazelles

crosses the light brown grass that hasn’t had water in months. Over and over again they run to nowhere not knowing where they are going trying to be transparent to the danger that’s behind them. They don’t understand that their life is flashing before their eyes. Screeching pain leads them to their death. Sadly, this what happens in the wilderness. ~ Ella H.

The Angry Man Tells a Sad Story A team of climbers goes beyond the mountain The loopy man shatters the glass His hat is as rough as the jagged rocks The cat changes into a lion The tilted doorway leads the people into heaven The depressed mirror of truth never tells the truth The tower that sits there is erased from the photo ~ Henry

I Saved the City

The waves are crashing fast. My mind somersaults right and left like a gymnast doing flips. Waves, they stampede over me like buffaloes. Cars speed by, trying to flee. Crabs scurry for safety as the waves lunge forward. I’m not scared, I’m not worried, I’m just standing there. I close my eyes and when I open them the tsunami has stopped. The city goes back to how it looked like before. I saved the city. The whole city.

PLUS A LOT OF QUESTI ONS

Wind. Rushing and howling. Exploding all around. Roaring and tearing, clawing at my face. Cold. The chill is all around. Freezing, consuming, devouring me. Fear. Fear for myself. What is this? Is it life, death, or simply being? For I have no purpose. I am here, but not. I need to wake up, but I’m not sure if I'm asleep. Is it deeper than sleep, more expansive than that? Am I in my mind or outside of it? I might go insane. Questions pounding in my head. It feels like an eternity, but it is only a second. Am I dead, alive or inbetween? I need to wake up. I need to wake up. I need to wake up. ~ Finn

River I’m scared. The river is raging. I’m stuck here. I’m wet. And cold. The forest surrounds me. But I am determined. The ground is covered in moss. It makes me uncomfortable. I’m lost. Alone. Wait. There are fish. I put my foot in. The river is shallow. And warm. I am safe. ~ Jack

ONE WISH The truth is all over, there is happiness somewhere with the benefits of escape and the slow words that fall. There is hope that rises into the sky at night then falls and collides a couple times again. One wish is granted, one more is lost. But there is always that thought that never is forgotten. With your trust and passion it can become one more ~ Abby

Tree Whispers The first amateur worker of the organization Detected humming while flying in the sky. He located the sound and exclaimed, “The hiker is gone!” The worker broke his jaw and felt an unnecessary flaw He landed in a prehistoric forest and found himself in a state of absence Hearing shadowy language whispered from the trees.

In Servitude to the Future Look to the future, Carry the past. Just like the books and the speeches amassed. For hope, for love, for knowledge and power. Remember it so, hour by hour You can’t catch it, yet you hold to it tight. You take inspiration, try as you might. And only when your past you’ve forgot, Will destruction and chaos fully be wrought. So like those before us, we carry our past. With each generation The future is cast. ~ Zach

Scarlet heels Empty hallway, Scarlet heels tap on the floor. She stops. The sound keeps going. She breaks into a run, Stumbles and trips, The sound isn’t done. Back on her feet, She spins and shouts “Who goes there?” Nothing is behind her except shadows and air. She turns back around, She isn’t afraid. That’s a lie, The fear creeps up behind her, and with a blade. F.D.R. once said The only thing to fear is fear itself The quote is so true Not one to put upon a shelf. So, fear took her life, And the lesson was taught, Fear is what’s deadly, Not what you thought. ~ Naomi

Spotless Sky

Inspired by Jason Shinder

A poem written in the future About a man who walked on Mars seeing no hills and a spotless sky. Suddenly the sky comes to life on a page in a book That a woman curiously reads In her kitchen as golden light pours onto her. Then she meets the man. The man who walked on Mars. The man who saw the spotless sky. Between each word We read this poem Yet it was written in the future. ~ Olivia
