Dancefest began life in 1990 as a festival to celebrate and raise the profile of dance. It has now grown into the main community dance development organisation for Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Dancefest uses the power and joy of dancing to enhance people’s lives, enabling everyone to take part in, be inspired by, and express themselves through dance. Dancefest provides a range of opportunities to enable people to take part in dance, including running more than 35 classes a week based in a wide variety of venues across both counties, five community performance companies for all ages - including an inclusive company - and a range of projects in schools, colleges, universities, community settings and outdoor sites. Dancefest encourages curiosity - about contemporary dance, who dances, where dance happens - and many of our performances take place in unusual spaces and places. We pride ourselves on delivering work of high quality that makes a genuine dierence to people’s lives, all led by an experienced professional team. Where does your recycling go? Malvern Hills Council reveals all: You’re working hard recycling all those items but what happens to them once we’ve picked them up? Well, they all go to our sorting facility at Norton near Pershore, run by Severn Waste Services, who then prepare them for processing into other products. Here is what happens next: Food and drink cans – Steel cans go for reprocessing at Pontypool in South Wales and the recycled steel is used in anything from new cars to bridges and of course new drinks cans. Aluminium cans go to a plant in Oldbury in the West Midlands and as well as new cans end up in cars and aeroplanes amongst other things. Mixed glass bottles and jars – are sent for reprocessing at Ellsemere Port in Cheshire and used to produce new glass bottles and aggregates for road construction. Plastic bottles and containers – different types of plastic go to different places including plants in Castleford, Liverpool, Redcar, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Dagenham. Some PET (fizzy drinks bottles) go to Spijk in Holland. Recycled plastic is used in numerous products from garden furniture to pipes and even clothing. Paper – goes to outlets across the UK and Europe including a local business in Worcestershire. Recycled paper has many uses such as newspaper, books and boxes for board games Cartons – these are sent to outlets across the UK and Europe. They can be used for anything from paper towels to toilet paper and some plants even turn them into environmentally friendly building materials. Cardboard – gets sent to various places across the UK and Europe and is turned into a variety of new card based products.

Keep Your house safe whilst on Holiday! Whilst relaxing on holiday and enjoying the sunshine it is not uncommon to be worrying about whether you house is safe while it is unoccupied. Here are some tops to help ease that worry:
• Put your lights on a timer so it looks like someone is home. Burglars are less likely to enter a house if they are not certain that the house is empty. • Ask a trusted neighbour or friend to keep an eye on your property while you are away. • Ask a trusted person to park on your drive every now and then. • Don’t leave your valuables on show. Televisions and laptops are too tempting for a burglar. If they can see them on show they might wonder what other goodies they can get t heir hands on. • Keep all your keys hidden and in a safe place, especially car keys. • Lock your windows!! Windows are an easy way to get into a property and it can be so easy to forget to lock them. Before you leave for your holiday, go around the house and check every window • Keep off social media- it can be so tempting to shoe off your holiday pics on your social media accounts, however this is a good advert that your house is empty. Wait till you get back to upload the holiday pictures!

Tackle Ground Elder Ground Elder can be a very difficuilt weed to get rid of and can ruin beautiful flower beds, here are a few hints and tips: The organic method: The best way to tackle Ground Elder is good, old-fashioned digging. The roots spread out like a web of white string under the soil surface, however, it’s not usually deeper than 6 inches. 1. Ground Elder grows in patches – as soon as you notice one, they’ll multiply into hundreds before you know it! Use a fork to dig as much of the root system as possible. Any little bit left in the ground will grow into another plant. 2. Throw Ground Elder roots in the rubbish or garden waste collection bin. The chemical method: An application of herbicide such as Glyphosate or Roundup will kill off Ground Elder, however, it’s almost impossible to completely get rid of it. 1. Dilute herbicide as per instructions on the label – NB makes sure you wear full protective clothing including rubber gloves, goggles, full-length sleeves, trousers and wellies. 2. Using a herbicide sprayer, spray all over the leaves and leave for up to a week. The leaves will eventually go brown, then they can be dug up or trimmed away. All of the above information was found at www.gardeningdirect.co.uk

HOW ARE WE FUNDED? St Richard’s is an independent hospice that relies mainly on voluntary income to enable us to continue to provide our services. It costs £8.4m (2017/18) a year to run all our services. We need to raise 76% of our annual costs to run the hospice from voluntary donations. The remainder is contributed by the NHS. Voluntary donations include gifts of money and standing orders or gifts in kind, legacies and grants from trusts and other grant-making bodies. We also benefit from company and business sponsorship, payroll giving, employee fundraising, donations from organisations and donations in memoriam. We have our own volunteer fundraising groups who organise regular events and assist with shop and street collections as well as supporters who place collecting boxes in local community outlets. Another way or raising income is through our charity shops selling donated goods and other hospice merchandise. In addition we benefit from the local hospices lottery. Cost No charge is made to patients and families for any of our services. This is made possible due to the generosity of our donors and supporters. If you would like to support St. Richard’s Hospice, please visit: www.strichards.org.uk

Pershore Plum Festival Pershore and its association with the plum is not a new thing, the area has been famous for its fruit growing since medieval times. Early in the 19th century the Pershore Yellow Egg Plum was found growing wild in Tiddesley Wood and by 1870 records show that over 900 tons of the fruit were being sent to market during harvest time. To celebrate this famous fruit, Pershore holds a Plum Festival throughout the month of August, when the town will turn “plum crazy” and the grand finale of this festival will be the Plum Fayre and Farmers Market on August Bank Holiday Monday. Here are some great events happenning throughout July leading up to the Plum Fayre...
Plum Princess Garden Party Sunday 8 July 2018 The Angel Hotel, Pershore 12pm Enjoy plum refreshments whilst listening to some of the finest young musicians in the area, with the afternoon culminating in the crowning of this year’s Plum Princess.
Race Night @ Worcester Racecourse Tuesday 31 July 2018 Pitchcroft, Worcester Racecourse Gates Open mid afternoon The Festival resurrects prestigious local racing history courtesy of Worcester Racecourse. A purple themed evening packed with Victorian and Edwardian antiquities and the revival of many horse races which celebrate the famous Pershore plums.

The Pet Corner’s Advice For Your Pet’s Nutritional And Digestive Health Choosing between brands of pet food can be very confusing, there are so many options out there and they all promise to keep your pet happy & healthy. However many of their promises can be misleading. Veterinary Nurse Claire & her team at the Pet Corner has some great advice on choosing the best food for your dog or cat: From personal experience, it is very easy to fall into the trap of thinking that a very well-known popular brand is the best food you can give your dog or cat only to find out that the ingredients listed are totally unsuitable and the food you are giving your dog or cat is nothing more than cheap fillers, cereal, meat and animal derivatives and artificial additives & nasty preservatives. This can lead to loose stools, poor skin and coat conditions, behaviour problems, and other more serious health issues such as Obesity, Pancreatitis and even Diabetes. So much of this is preventable by getting the right pet care advice and feeding a good quality food. By feeding good quality natural premium foods that contain higher levels of real meat, fish, fruits, vegetables and packed full of healthy fully digestible ingredients actually means you feed less! Whether your best friend is a growing developing Puppy, an Adult or a more senior pet, we will ensure he/she is receiving the correct nutritional & feeding requirements to ensure your dog’s individual & lifestage health needs are catered for. We can provide your dog with a personalized Weight Card whereby we record your Pets Weight, carry our a Body Condition Score and make recommendations for a tailored nutrition plan.Whether you choose a complete wet food or a complete dry food, or even if you decide to go down the route of BARF feeding for your pet, we have some of the very best foods available along with full information packs and advice to help you decide which food will suit your dog or cat best.

Wimbledon Its that time of year again!! Wimbledon is taking over our screens again from the 2nd of July to the 15th of July. We could not be more excited! The tournament is famous internationally for being one of the best tennis tournaments in the world, and for good reason. The drama, the tension and the competition never disappoint. Who would want to miss the tennis giants that are Murray, Federer, Djokovic, Halep, Wozniacki and Muguruza compete to become the Wimbledon champions of 2018? How will Murray perform? Murray didn’t perform as well as he had hoped at the Queen’s tournament, losing in a match against Kyrgios. His competition and fans will be watching him closely in his first match in order to see if there are any new weaknesses that may have arisen since his hip operation. Now that Serena Williams has confirmed her return to Wimbledon, Serena will be another player to watch out for. The 7-time Wimbledon champion will be returning after having given birth last year. If she was to become Wimbledon champion for the 8th time, this may put her at top seed. No pressure! The Wimbledon singles champions will win £2.25m this year, with organisers announcing the total prize pot will increase by 7.6% to £34m. Last year’s winners Federer and Garbine Muguruza took home £2.2m. Its not only the players who are the famous faces at Wimbledon, many celebrities enjoy and watch the sport on centre court as well. Celebrity regulars also include David Beckham, Bradley Cooper, Pippa Middleton and Ellie Goulding – with Beyoncé and Jay Z even showing up to sit in Serena Williams’ player’s box during the 2016 final. The royal family often show their faces as well. This begs the question, will Megan Markle be making an appearance? With celebrities comes the glits and glamour. Wimbledon often witnesses some of the best fashion statements of the year. Be ready to spot some gorgeous dresses and sophisticated suits. No doubt David Beckham’s suit will be a show stopper, but can he beat the royal wedding suit? Get your strawberries and cream ready and maybe even a glass of bubbly, as this year’s Wimbledon promises to be an interesting one.

It is so rare for a film to have an all-female star cast outside of a chick-flick, but Ocean’s 8 proves that that an all-female cast doesn’t have to be just for a female audience. This film is thoroughly enjoyable. Debbie Ocean has been locked up in jail for over five years, time enough to plan a master heist. Debbie gradually builds up a team of skilled females in order to help her pull off the biggest crime of her life and to get revenge on the ex that put her behind bars. Hacker, Nine Ball, dress designer, Rose, street con, Constance and jeweller, Amrita come together to steal the Toussaint, a $150 million Cartier necklace. The heist is set at the Met Gala where you will find famous faces such as f Kim Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Lily Aldridge, Serena Williams and Hailey Baldwin Subtle humour, cunning plans and a fantastic cast are all things that make this film great. Yes, the story line is nothing outstanding, nevertheless its still entertaining if you are looking for an easy watch.

Calling All Worcester Tenants - Know Your Rights Worcester City Council is raising awareness of the rights which all residents who rent their home have, in a bid to curb the activities of rogue landlords. According to the Private Sector House Condition Survey carried out in 2015, 35% of all homes in Worcester are rented. Over the last decade there have been increases in private rented accommodation across all areas of the city. Anyone renting housing in the city should be aware that:
· Landlords are required to protect their tenant’s deposit in a Governmentapproved scheme. You should request confirmation of which scheme your deposit is protected with, so you know how to get it back at the end of the tenancy. · Tenants are entitled to live in their property without harassment from the landlord. If the landlord wishes to enter, they must give the tenant suitable notice and are not permitted to enter without permission. · Tenants should be provided with a smoke detector on each storey of the property. · The tenant is not under obligation to leave their rented property unless the landlord has served a valid notice to quit (called a Section 21 or Section 8 Notice). · When you move in, your landlord must supply you with the How To Rent Guide published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. If your landlord didn’t do this, then they will not be able to serve a Section 21 notice to evict you. · An energy performance certificate must be supplied to the tenant by the landlord (a lower rating could indicate higher heating bills). An annual Gas Safe certificate must be supplied too (evidence that appliances in the property have been inspected by a Gas Safe registered engineer). The landlord cannot evict their tenants if they do not provide this documentation. · Tenants who rent through a letting/managing agent can raise complaints through the agent’s redress scheme. If you are experiencing problems with your property and would like independent advice, contact the Council’s Private Housing team at privatehousing@worcester.gov.uk or call 01905 722288.

Car Maintenance There are a number of things that you can do to maximise your driving time and help keep your car performing properly and running cleanly. Avoid Cold Starts Cold starts are when your journey is too short for the engine to properly warm up and reach its optimum temperature. A short trip down to the shops causes more wear and tear on your engine, using more fuel and producing harmful emissions. One way to avoid these is buy planning ahead so that you can complete your errands in one trip rather than multiple short ones. Regular Easy Maintenance Maintenance for your car does not have to be a big job, simple things like checking and changing your oil, replacing the air filter or windshield wipers and keeping the correct tire pressures are easy. These simple jobs are the key to ensuring your car runs efficiently. Complicated Maintenance To get the most out of your car and keep it running smoothly for the longest time possible, you should consider speaking to your local garage and scheduling a general service. This will help make sure the car passes its next MOT.

David Neville Store Celebrates 50 years David Neville’s opened its doors for the first time on Saturday 25th May 1968. It rained nearly all day and hardly a soul ventured out until 4pm in the afternoon when the first sale was made, a McIntosh round table and 4 nesting chairs for the sum of £80. We were up and running and still are after 50 years. This is quite an achievement for a small local retailer. How have we achieved this? Personal service, satisfaction, loyal customers and loyal staff in all departments of the business. All the staff, past and present have made huge contributions to the success of the business to whom I am very grateful. However, this is a family business and over the years all three of my sons have made contributions to its success. Michael is now at the helm with fellow Director Paul Mason who has been with the company since he was 17 and having started from scratch is now an expert in all aspects of the business. I know that my father who set me up in business would be very proud. May the success continue. By David Neville

Puppy Training The Blue Cross has some great advice on looking after your puppy. Read through this article on how to puppy train your pup: In the morning take your puppy straight out to go to the toilet and praise when the pup performs. Do not be angry, upset or frustrated if your pup has toileted overnight. House training is a delicate process and puppies are more likely to learn what is required of them if they are not frightened or confused. This is all about getting to know your puppy’s body clock, so that you can take them to where you want them to go well before they become desperate, which can result in them going wherever they might be. Pop them into the garden when they wake from sleep, after they have eaten, after play or any moments of high excitement. Also, sniffing the floor and circling are clues that they may need to go, so when you see this, stop what you’re doing and take them to the garden. If you see your puppy about to go to the loo inside, distract them from continuing by making a noise and then take them to the garden, and praise them when they go. Do this in a calm and positive way. Remember, distracting your puppy is very different to punishing. Young puppies are just like human babies than need potty training, we have to help, guide and encourage them to learn a lifelong habit, so be consistent and calm at all times, and accept some setbacks and accidents along the way. For further information see House training an adult dog.

Formula One 2018 “There’s a long way to go.” Lewis Hamilton was pleased to be back on the top step of the rostrum with a commanding victory in France, as his title rival Sebastian Vettel lost ground in the championship battle. But with two thirds of the season still to go, the Mercedes driver was also conscious to keep his emotions in check… Hamilton and Vettel now have three wins apiece from eight races in 2018, as they each battle to become only the third driver in history to clinch five F1 drivers’ world titles. Mercedes technical director James Allison echoed those thoughts. “The car performance was good all weekend and we can travel to Austria with the optimism that we can keep up the good work in the next races,” he said.

Bromsgrove Bluegrass Bash The Pickin' Weekend If you have finally figured out which end of the mandolin the mouthpiece goes in, then this is the picking weekend for you ! From midday on Friday 13th to 10pm Sunday 15th July the emphasis will be on picking. No paid bands so the entrance fee can be kept as low as possible. Big sessions, small picks in the corner, you decide ! Get together with old friends and play your heart out. There are plenty of other things going on though when your fingers start to bleed ! Saturday afternoon will see a variety of games and competitions on offer for those of you willing to pit your skill and judgment against your fellow Bluegrasser ! The games consist of : Fastest Stringer in the West Midlands Bin the Banjo The prizes for the winners are just plain ludicrous !! Saturday at 7pm will see the ubiquitous Scratch Band shootout. Scratch bands will be assembled (with daft names of course) and each group shall play on the stage in the Marquee and have bottles hurled at them. Ok, maybe plectrums, and the winners shall walk home with some serious prizes ! Make of that what you will ! This is all for fun of course but also gives those who don’t get up on stage that often a chance to humiliate themselves and henceforth call themselves musicians Friday 13th - Sunday 15th July 2018 The Park Gate Inn, 178, Kidderminster Road, Bromsgrove, B61 9AJ.

Key Facts for 2018 Running from Saturday July 7th to Sunday July 29th 2018, the 105th Tour de France will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,351 kilometres. The 2018 Tour de France will include a total of 26 mountain climbs or hills and altitude finishes ranked in second, first of HC class. Except for a short visit of around 15 kilometres in Spain during stage 16 between Carcassonne and Bagnères-de-Luchon, the 105th Tour de France will never go out of the borders of France. 36“départements” will be travelled through and the Basque country that hadn’t been visited since 2006 will once again be on the map of the Tour. Like it was the case last summer in Marseille, the winner of the 105th edition should be crowned after the 20th and penultimate stage, a time-trial between Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle and Espelette on a distance of 31 kilometres. After a three-year absence, a team time-trial of 35 kilometres will also be on the menu during stage 3 in Cholet.

Conservatory Roof Solutions
Transform your conservatory into a comfortable, all year round living space! Unfortunately the ‘traditional’ conservatory polycarbonate roof offers no insulation properties at all making the ‘ too hot too cold ‘ scenario only too common. Most of the suns heat is conducted in the summer into the room making it unpleasantly hot for normal use and conversely in the winter months it can be virtually impossible to keep most conservatories warm because the roof allows any heat to escape.
