HS MALVERN SPRING FESTIVAL 2018 is set to take visitors on a journey of discovery. Following on from this year’s hugely successful celebration of Malvern’s heritage as a Victorian spa resort, inspiration for next year’s show is being drawn from The Great Exhibition of 1851. Hosted at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, from May 10-13, and set against the backdrop of the picturesque Malvern Hills, the theme for 2018 will bring the influences of The Great Exhibition into 21st century living. Head of Show, Diana Walton, said: “We're channelling the spirit of the Great Exhibition with plenty of innovation, education and a spectacular day out. There’ll be so much for visitors to explore. We’re also linking into the ambition of the Great Exhibition and hoping that just as its influence lived on long after the event, our visitors will have such a memorable day it will leave a lasting impression for many years to come.” The town of Malvern was put into the global spotlight in 1851 when its prized waters formed the Great Exhibition centrepiece. How The Beautiful Rolling Hills Of Malvern Inspired Many Famous Literary Texts It appears that almost every Shire of England lays claim to being the inspiration behind Tolkein’s legendary Middle-earth. Though, whether Frodo and Co’s stomping ground was really born from Gloucestershire, Birmingham, Herefordshire or Worcestershire, one thing remains true; Malvern’s outstanding natural beauty is distinguishable in various literary masterpieces. Poet W H Auden taught at Down’s School, Colwall and nurtured a lifelong relationship with the quaint town, one poem being entitled ‘The Malverns.’ Its sweeping hills became the staggered stanzas in plenty of poetry and prose, and scholars believe his Malvern born muse is the subject of his most famous poem ‘Funeral Blues,’ made famous as ‘Stop All The Clocks’ in the Hugh Grant romantic comedy classic, ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral.’ Arguably though, the literary reference most famous and most distinguishable as Malvern, is the story of CS Lewis. The story goes… It was a bitterly cold day one midwinter in the 1940s. C S Lewis and his literary friends JRR Tolkein and George Sayer were, as not uncommon, staggering back from The Unicorn pub, Great Malvern. It had snowed quite significantly and the flurries had left behind a blanket of snow that adorned the hills. As the trio trudged through, they happened upon a path that wound its way up the bank of St Ann’s. The branches above, now white, sparkled in the dim light of dusk like snowflakes. The snow had collected on top of a gas lamp that lit the path ahead. As CS Lewis surveyed the scenery, he took note of the picture he saw and closed his eyes in an attempt to preserve the image. He remarked, ‘That would make a very nice opening to a book!” Narnia was born. With any luck, the Spring Equinox has bid farewell to snow - at least for this year! However, next time you visit The Malvern Hills, keep an eye out for the gas lamps that lit a fire in the mind and heart of a literary great and gave life to the Chronicles of Narnia.

Remove That Wine Stain! Here are some vital tips on how to get rid of the stain that everyone fears

Your sitting down to a civilised meal with friends when suddenly the wine glass on the table is nudged and your beautiful cream carpet resembles a murder scene from your favourite murder mystery series. The panic sets in and you realise time is running out but you are not sure on the best way to get this stain out. The website www.realsimple.com has your back. It has some quick and easy steps to remove red wine stains using things you would always have in the house. What You Need Clean white cotton cloth, bowl, table salt, pot holder, boiling water Follow These Steps • Blot, don’t rub. • Dab at the stain with a damp, white cotton cloth to absorb any excess wine. (Rubbing is the wrong move because it will actually set the stain.) • Pull the fabric taut. • Slide a bowl under the fabric, centering the stain over the bowl. Secure with a large rubber band. • Sprinkle salt. • Coat the stain with a generous amount of salt and let sit for at least five minutes to allow the salt to start absorbing the liquid. Keep in mind: The sooner salt is applied, the easier it will be to lift the stain. • Add boiling water. • Slowly—and carefully—pour boiling water over the stain from a height of at least eight inches. (Pouring from this height gives you enough force to flush out the stain.) • Machine-wash. • Using the hottest water setting, launder the fabric. Tip: Don’t put the cloth in the dryer until the stain is completely removed. Otherwise, the dryer’s heat will cause the remaining stain to set.

Voice Of Tv’s Strictly To Appear At Charity Dance Spectacular

The voice of Strictly Come Dancing and The National Lottery draws, Alan Dedicoat, will be the announcer at charity dance contest Strictly Worcestershire this May. Mr Dedicoat, who hails from Hollywood, near Redditch, will appear live at the county’s most glittering black tie fund-raiser at the Chateau Impney in Droitwich Spa on Thursday, May 24. Profits from the event, now in its fifth year and sponsored by DRP and A1 Recruitment Solutions, will go to St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester and the £1 million Rory the Robot Appeal. Worcestershire is a major urology cancer centre and this state-of-the-art surgical robotic system will ensure prostate cancer surgery patients will have less pain, minimal blood loss and reduced complications. Seven contestant couples from the county’s business community will aim to lift the prized glitterball trophy in front of a 750-strong corporate audience. The judging panel will comprise former trade minister and business ambassador Lord Digby Jones, veteran broadcaster Bob Warman, dancer/choreographer Katie Love and choreographer Jennifer Bennett Price. The MC is BBC Hereford and Worcester breakfast show presenter Elliott Webb. After months of planning and fundraising the 2018 “50 Golden Years” Pershore Carnival is merely weeks, however there is still time for Pershore residents to get involved. Colin Shepherd, Pershore Carnival Chairman said “Pershore retailers have always been very supportive of Pershore Carnival and once again we are asking them to get involved and take part in the Carnival Window Display Competition” The competition runs from 14th - 18th May with judging on 18th with all the “50 Golden Years” displays remaining in place until carnival day. Letters will go to all businesses in town centre during the last week in April inviting them to take part. This year, in addition to the windows competition the committee are hoping that Pershore residents will also get in the Jubilee spirit and help turn the town golden. The actual Carnival Parade will begin at 1pm and all the money raised from the street collection will go to Pershore Sea Cadets. There will be a variety of fantastic free entertainment throughout the day, acts confirmed included Paws for Thought Dog Display Team, street dancing performed by Dance Challenge, a fabulous craft tent and kids workshops provided by Junkfish, and balloon modelling. The day will conclude with the Evening Concert at 5pm and firework finale, so bring your deck chairs and picnic for a fabulous free Jubilee party in the park. Our mission is to provide arts and leisure activities to its local community and beyond with the aim of improving the social well-being of the inhabitants of Pershore and surrounding areas. Worcester Locals Bare It All For Prostate Cancer Uk Gareth Hall, a regular fundraiser for local charity events has joined forces with Tom Whitby, Steve Turner and Adam Woodward at OMG Promotions to put on what will potentially be the biggest ladies night Worcester has ever seen. They have recruited the help from dance school teachers Amie Harris and Candie Taylor from Beat Brakerz School of Dance, and Demi Lewis from Empire Dance Academy. The teachers will be providing dance choreography and lessons over the next eight weeks to several inexperienced local lads, which promises to be a pulse racing show. The line up includes; Gareth Hall, Harry Gregory, Olly Mathews, Joe Forsyth, Jason Holder, Dan Kepinski, Jason Frost, Joe McGorman, Robbie Patrick, Sean Reidy, Gavin Barratt, and more to be announced. With a range of backgrounds from painter and decorators to personal trainers and firemen, these chaps promise to put on an eye catching show everyone will enjoy! The night at perdiswell Leisure Centre also offers further entertainment including topless waiters, a disco, full bar, and the fantastic Ginny Lemon; a popular drag queen with a sharp sense of humour, as previously seen on X Factor. Shaun Paskin’s Big Leap for MS Hi, my name is Shaun Paskin and I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 17. MS is a condition which can affect the brain and/or spinal cord, causing a wide range of symptoms. Now 13 years on, I am successful in my job as a recruitment consultant and a proud advocate of various charities including Shift.MS and the MS Society. I suffered my most recent relapse in October last year which as a result left me partially wheelchair bound. However, the story I want to tell you is how in early December I found the courage to not give up and looked at what I could do rather than what I couldn’t. This fresh perspective, as well as the support of my family, friends and my boss Colin Smith (at AES in Worcester) I decided to free the shackles that held me back and sign up to do the Great Manchester 10k run. Since then my determination and physiotherapy has brought me closer than ever to this goal, my training is well under way and I am not only walking unaided but running! When A Loved One Passes

ereavement usually means losing someone we love through death and also follows on from change and loss. It is a devastating event, turning our world upside down and changing our lives forever. The death of a loved one is probably the worst loss we will ever experience. Grief is the reaction of over-riding intense pain and emotion that follows on from the death of someone who has been close to us. There is no single way to grieve. Everyone is different and each person grieves in his or her own way, and there is no telling how long it will take. Grief can express itself in many different ways, often with very powerful, frightening and confusing feelings. Because each person within the family grieves in their own particular way and at their own pace, it is important to take one another into consideration. Talk to each other about thoughts and feelings. Although no two people’s experiences will ever be the same, there are some common feelings which you may experience at different times in your grief. As well as a deep sadness, you may feel anger, fear, guilt, anxiety, loneliness, despair, preoocupation with the loved one that has died, denial, restless over-activity or apathy. All these feelings are natural reactions, but the intensity may leave you feeling that you are not managing everyday life in the way you would like to. Most bereaved people suffer from depression at some stage in their grief. The main thing to remember is that this is not a permanent state. It will pass when its purpose has been achieved. Although some people may need professional help if it deepens and persists. Accept that it isn’t unusual not to feel your ‘normal’ self. Be gentle with yourself for grief is an exhausting thing. Some return to routine can help as long as you try to balance this with time to reflect on what has happened to you. Try sticking to a regular routine of eating, sleeping, exercise and relaxation. Look after yourself. Your self-esteem may have taken a real knock. Acknowledge yourself each time you achieve something, even if it is getting up in the morning or staying in bed to give yourself a rest. We can be very good at noticing all our mistakes and ignoring our good points, especially when we are feeling down. Remembering happy times with the person who has died can be painful but nontheless healing. Looking at photographs, making a memory book and keeping meaningful mementoes may help. Take things slowly. You might want to delay making big changes such as moving house, starting a new relationship or changing job. You have already suffered a huge loss and need to adjust to that first. Usually it helps to seek support from several sources. No one can grieve for you. You have to find your own path through your grief, but you do not have to walk the road alone.

He is highly intelligent and very sociable with his human family and friends. Mithra, however does not enjoy the company of other cats and will be very aggressive to them. With this to consider, we are seeking a rural home for Mithra in which he can fully roam about, but not easily come into contact with other cats. Due to his high intelligence, Mithra is not suitable to live indoors, he needs activity and stimulation and above all human company. Mithra is a delightful cat and in the correct environment, he will make a wonderful companion cat. He is very healthy, neutered, chipped and vaccinated.
