Microsoft announced Ireland as the location for its EMEA Inside Sales Centre in February 2017, having recruited Lisa last year to head up the establishment of this new division within the company. Microsoft Ireland employs 2000 people in Ireland and is located in a new campus in South County Business Park in Leopardstown. Category Questions Management Role Lisa is the General Manager of the Microsoft EMEA Inside Sales Centre located in Dublin. Microsoft announced Ireland as the location for its EMEA Inside Sales Centre in February 2017, having recruited Lisa last year to head up the establishment of this new division within the company. Under Lisa’s leadership, the Inside Sales division has grown more quickly than anticipated, with 500 positions announced in February and an additional 200 in October. Not only is Lisa driving the expansion of the new division but through a creative campaign, her team are successfully hiring the right kind of people – a significant achievement in a highly competitive recruitment market. Prior to Microsoft, she was Vice President of Sales at Oracle. She has also worked in BT, Motorola, & Accenture. She is a Board member of Enterprise Ireland, the European Executive Council of the American Association of Inside Sales Professionals (AA-ISP) and the Inside Sales Directors Network (ISDN) of Ireland. Lisa graduated with an MBA, Electronic Engineering degree, and Mathematics degree from Trinity College Dublin. Lisa is a role model for young women considering a career in STEM as there were a small number of females in her college class. Vision and Leadership Lisa Dillon is self-motivated. Her goal has always been to follow her passion for STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and maths. Her view is that your work takes up a huge proportion of your life, so it is important to enjoy it and to bring the right attitude to the workplace. She is open to new people and new experiences. At Microsoft, she has recruited a diverse workforce in the Inside Sales Centre that are serving customers from across EMEA. With over 30 languages spoken in the centre, she has created a truly international working environment. Lisa is a problem-solver. She emphasises the importance of focusing on the issues that you can do something about, that you have some control over, and that are within your circle of influence. If you focus on that, other issues will resolve themselves. Lisa is also an effective mentor. She feels that it doesn’t take a lot of time to give encouragement, but it can make a big difference to others. Lisa is always on hand to offer advice and is willing to put herself in their shoes so that she can help them make the right decision. Corporate Performance Lisa has proved instrumental to the establishment, development and growth of the EMEA Inside Sales organisation in Dublin. She has created a commercial strategy for Inside Sales and has built a team to deliver against that strategy. LISA DILLON

Lisa’s greatest challenge to date has been to establish and develop an entirely new business unit for Microsoft in Ireland. She has significant autonomy over the organisation as she builds it from scratch in a way that she believes will best support the company’s overarching strategic objectives. Lisa is confronted with the need to keep up with the volume and pace of recruitment required. Since the organisation was established, 500 people from around the globe have been recruited into Inside Sales. Now, Lisa is searching for 200 more talented people. The environment is competitive but the Inside Sales team has managed to recruit exceptional people with many choosing Microsoft over others. In addition to identifying the right people with the right skills, they also need to be the right cultural fit. Lisa is creating essentially a start-up within an established company. It requires the right kind of people who will thrive in a fast-paced environment. While all of this has been a challenge, Lisa has relished it and thrived on it. The positive atmosphere in Inside Sales is now well known within the marketplace and is supporting the continued recruitment efforts for the 200 new roles announced earlier in October. Under Lisa’s leadership, the Centre is experiencing swift growth based on all targets and milestones being achieved to date. The rapid growth has helped Lisa secure additional investment from Microsoft Corporation. This confidence from the company at a global level reflects the strength of the team that Lisa and thecompany has recruited to date, and the quality of the applicants that continue to apply. Community Service As a company we have an ambition to equip everyone on the planet with the digital skills to achieve more. Lisa is particularly driven by this ambition and ensure that she personally and her Inside Sales team support all of the company activities from CoderDojo to Junior Achievement activity to drive digital skills awareness and support our objective as a company to get more females engaged in STEM subjects. Earlier this year we made a commitment to engage 10,000 girls over two years with our partners to inspire more girls to choose STEM and pursue a career in technology. Currently we’re supporting a far-reaching campaign to support the global Hour of Code campaign in Ireland and Lisa is ensuring she and her team is part of this programme to achieve our goals as a company. In addition to our younger generation Lisa is also passionate about supporting females in their early career stage and providing them with the opportunities to develop and nurture their digital skillset.
