Category Questions Career Accomplishments Neasa is a BAFTA- and IFTA-winning director and writer with a worldwide reputation. She has worked across Ireland, the UK and the US, telling compelling screen stories which have formed a significant part of the renaissance in TV drama. Her work includes the celebrated Happy Valley, acclaimed Marvel’s Jessica Jones and richly realized period drama Z: The Beginning of Everything. In addition, Neasa is an accomplished feature film screenwriter. Currently writing a screenplay for Stephen Spielberg's Dreamworks, Neasa is preparing to direct her own award-winning sci-fi thriller script Sea Fever, to star Toni Collette as the Irish skipper of a fishing vessel. Impact on Irish Thinking and Culture In a globalized, competitive industry where only 6% of directors at her level are female, Neasa’s achievement is an inspiration for Irish film makers, and for Irish female film makers in particular. She is generous in giving her time and expertise to the next generation of industry professionals through her work as a founder member of the Board of Women in Film and Television. She is committed to supporting and developing better career paths for women in her business. More information may be found at www.wft.ie Vision and Leadership Neasa founded and is MD of the national initiative Big Stories on the Small Screen, a large-scale BAI-funded multi-plaftform initiative to create a landscape of excellence in screen drama from Ireland. Neasa uses her international reputation to bring the world’s best screenwriters and directors to Ireland for masterclasses and seminars. For instance, next Saturday’s Big Stories event sees Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale), Ronan Bennett (Gunpowder) and Amanda Coe (Apple Tree Yard) speak to an invited audience in Dublin. More information may be found at www.BigStories.ie In addition, Neasa serves on the Board of Trustees of the Irish Film and Television Academy, where she also takes the role of Chair of the Film Committee. More information on her work there may be found at www.ifta.ie Alongside her professional activities, Neasa is pursuing broader questions of film and society through her doctoral research into genre film and social transformation, which she is conducting through Trinity College Dublin.
