I’m from Kashihara in Nara Prefecture, but I have been there only once when I was elementary school student. My friend recommended me the very beautiful greenery and fresh air. If you come to Nara, you should visit Nara. You can relax here. Let me tell you about my favorite sweet, Daibutsu Pudding. I tried Daibutsu Pudding when I was high school student. It has a very rich milk taste. I bought it at Kintetsu Nara station because my high school is in Nara. The reason was why I chose it is that it isn’t widely known. Nara has very important history but most tourists visit Kyoto more than Nara. I wanted to let everyone know more about good places in Nara.

In addition, there are Hankyu, Hanshin and JR stations, so it’s easy to go to. My recommended food is the Amagasaki burger!! You can eat this burger at Jack’s Pizza & Burgers, which is about 5min from Hankyu Tsukaguchi station. This burger uses the Amagasaki Wonderful Sauce, a type of Worcester sauce. It’s fruity taste is a popular secret. By the way, the yakisoba sold in Koshien Stadium uses this sauce too. There are three points about the food that I recommend. First, this is sooo cheap!! The burger is quite large, but it costs only ¥550. Second, it is sooo juicy. The staff bakes the patty after they receive the order, so we can eat a freshly cooked burger. Third, the garnished fried potatos are salty, and delicious too!! The burger’s taste and also the shop’s interior is very American. Why don’t you go get some American atmosphere at Amagasaki?

There are many famous shrines and temples in Nara, so it is a center for tourism. Also, Nara is famous for Nara Park. There are many deer. A delicious food in Nara is narazuke. I ate narazuke for the first time when I was elementary school student. I still remember that narazuke has a crunchy texture and is delicious. Narazuke is made from fresh vegetables and fruits, such as oriental melon, cucumber and water melon. They are soaked in the lees of sake. My favorite Narazuke shop is Yamazakiya near Kintetsu Nara Station. There may be some people who don’t like Narazuke because this food has a peculiar taste. If you try it for the first time, I recommend Kizami Narazuke sold by Yamazakiya. Kizami Narazuke is sweet and easy to eat for beginners. I chose Narazuke, because I’m from Nara and I eat usually it. In addition, I’m interested in ingredients that go into Narazuke. Narazuke is sold widely in Nara. Recently, narazune sweets are gradually getting popular. For example, narazuke sable won a Nara souvenir award. Narazuke is kneaded into it and has a salty-sweet taste.

Akatsuki The local area I want to introduce is Hirakata city in Osaka. It is a core city of north of Osaka and famous for Hirakata Park. I have lived in there for ten years. Let me introduce a dorayaki called akatsuki. Dorayaki is two small pancakes with bean jam in between. I tried it when I was seven years old and it is very delicious. Akatsuki is a kojindo shop about three minutes walk from Hirakatashi station. Akatsuki has many flavors such as chestnut, plum and costs about 130 to 190 yen. The reason why I chose it is that I am interested in the written letter or picture on its pancake. What is drawn on the akatsuki in the photo is Kurawanko, a character representing Hirakata city. Other important information is that the main shop just reopened after renewal in March 2019.

There are many World Heritages including Todai-ji Temple, Horyu-ji Temple and Kasuga Taisha. There are many deer here, the natural monument of the country. Nara is a livable city but up till now it has been said that there is nothing delicious in Nara. Recently there have been a lot of fashionable cafes and delicious food. My delicious local food is Big Buddha pudding soft cream. This food can be eaten at the Pudding Forest Cafe. The cafe is a 30-minute walk from Takanohara station. It is so far but you can enjoy the walk. This soft cream costs 410 yen and has a very rich pudding taste, as it’s name suggests. This soft cream can be bought in various other places in Nara besides this cafe. The cafe is famous amongst young women and popular on instagram. Here, you can also buy pudding, pudding jam and cookies. Big Buddha pudding soft cream tastes delicious and looks so cute and the price is also affordable. It is even delicious just toasted without butter; also an attractive point. Of course, it is fluffy, slightly sweet and delicious even if you eat it as is. Boronya can be bought in Kyoto city, service areas and online. The price is about 800 to 1,600 yen. Boronya has not only plain but also various kinds of flavors.

This is a sweet made by sandwiching white chocolate with green tea flavored “langue de chat”. Langue de chat is a kind of cookie. The bittersweet flavor of the green tea matchs well with the white chocolate. So, it is very delicious and one of my favorite sweets. Minazuki Let me introduce my favorite local place: Kyoto City. There are many temples and shrines here. Kinkakuji Temple and Kitanotenmangu Shrine, for example and more. And then there is Nijo-jo Castle which is a World Heritage Site. My favorite local food is Minazuki. Minazuki is a type of traditional sweet called wagashi. Minazuki means ‘June’ in English. It is a triangle-shaped uiro which is covered with adzuki beans. It is chewy and delicious. We can get them only in June when “Nagoshi no harae” is held. “Nagoshi no harae” is the ceremony of purification. I chose it because its appearance is intriguing and it only appears in June: it feels special. We can get Minazuki at many places such as supermarkets or wagashi shops.

Kanzuri Nigata prefecture is on the West coast of Japan’s main island, Honshu. It’s up North so it gets quite cold in the winter. I heard that it’s well known for ski resorts, onsen (hot baths). It’s also coastal, so there is lots of good seafood. I’ve never been to Nigata prefetcure, but mymy wife often goes to visit her friends. On one trip she brought back a very small jar of this amazing stuff called Kanzuri. Kanzuri is a spicy paste made of chilly, which is yuzu flavored. At first we didn’t know how to eat it, so we tried it with grilled fish, and it was amazing. It has a lot of flavor, but not a lot of burn. I don’t like things that are crazy hot. The yuzu flavor also comes through really well too, which makes it more delicious. I want to introduce you to it because it’s not only delicious but you can eat it with almost anything! Try it with fish, meat, soups, vegetables... everything it goes with tastes great. Also, it’s only a small jar, so you don’t have to buy lots. I guess because it comes in a small jar, you can see it in some stores around Kansai. The name is written backwards on the red and gold label「りずんか」, and look for the chillies on the lid. I think the jar is also really cool.
