Page 1

6699 is the typographical shape of quotation marks: “ and ”. This hand-made zine is a collection gathered by students in the English Speaking class at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The theme “Comics & Manga” was chosen by popular vote mid-June in 2020. The vote was held online in Microsoft Teams because university was closed due to the COVID-19 (Corona Virus) pandemic. It was suggested by many different students, and recieved a total of 28 votes. Comics and Manga are a little different; each has a different history and methodology in it’s creation, but the biggest difference is that Comics are largely Western, and Manga is a very special brand of Japanese comics. They’re so popular that the word Manga itself is widely understood overseas, and popular among young people. The students liked the word, so in this class we took their meanings liberally. What’re your favorite Comics or Manga? We hope you enjoy it.

Oyasumi Punpun and Kingdom These mangas are just like a bible to me now. I’m easily influenced by supreme manga and awesome TV dramas. In other words, I tend to dream about their lives. Oyasumi Punpun is a manga where you meet a dreamy boy. It is so artistic, original, conceptual, violent, and extremely delicate. One of the greatest features is that the main character is not the only human. I feel the mood of Japanese film in this manga. This is why I like Oyasumi Punpun. I’ve loved manga since I was small, but I only read them occasionally during the entrance exam season. After the entrance exams, I started to lose my passion in boy’s manga. Because I was probably no longer a boy, I wasn’t able to understand them. At that time, I came across the manga Kingdom. The story is that set at the end of the Chunqiu warring states era in ancient China. Sei is a character who will become the first Qin Emperor, and Shin is a warrior in Qin; they work together to achieve their dreams. In addition to tracing actual history, there are lots of exciting battle scenes. Therefore, I became attracted to Kingdom.

I like driving, but I almost never drive a car. I last drove four months ago.I’d like to travel with my friends... I’ll save money until then!

Read A Peanuts Book featuring Snoopy for School Children I don’t read mangas or comics very much, so I am not familiar with them. However, I start liking characters from reading comics. The name of this character is Snoopy. The author of this comic is Charles Monroe Schulz. Also Mr. Tanikawa translated it from English to Japanese. Of course, I like Snoopy, but there are also other reasons why I like this book. There are many quotes in the conversation between Snoopy and his friends. This quotes really touch my heart. This is the main reason I like this comic.

Araki Mayumi Hi! My name is Mayumi Araki. I’m a first-year student studying pharmacy at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in music, magazines and Japanese talents. I like to read phrases and sentences that touch my heart. I also like playing the piano, listening to J-POP, and watching TV programs.

My Hero Academia In this story, there is a world in which human beings with supernatural abilities are commonplace. Izuku Midoriya, a protagonist with no personality, meets a hero he admired, Mr. Almighty. It turns out he is also a hero and inherits the one-for-all characteristics of Mr. Almighty. In the story he enters high school (a prestigious school where heroes are produced), and trains daily with his classmates to become a hero. The reason I came across this manga was that I borrowed it from a friend. She recommended it and I started reading. I fell in love with this manga because I saw Deku’s single-minded, straight-forward attitude and the way he tries again without giving up. I’m looking forward to it because there is still more to come. Ban Yuna Hi! My name is Yuna Ban. I’m a Second-year student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in herbal medicines, anti-cancer agents, and immunosuppressant. I also like sleeping, eating, and meeting with my friends.

HUNTER×HUNTER I love comics and manga. I’ve loved anime since I was a kid. Ever since I found the anime HUNTER×HUNTER when I was in the 5th grade of elementary school, I couldn’t buy the manga, so I would sometimes go to the house of a friend who had it and read it. HUNTER×HUNTER is a story in which the protagonist goes out on a journey to find his father and makes friends, and the mysterious power of “Nennnouryoku” emerges. As the story progresses it gets interesting, and after reading a new book, I always look forward to the next, wondering “What will happen next!?” I like the group called “Genneiryodan” and the characters in the story, who are bad people and enemies, but are also friendly and cool.

Chuta Umi Hi! My name is Umi Chuta. I’m a Second-year student studying Medicine at Osaka University of pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in fishing, cooking and talking with many people. I also like singing, running and making things. I belonged to the student council when I was a high school student and experienced volunteering. From that, I’m good at leading and supporting people. Demon Slayer and The Prince of Tennis I love comics and manga, so I want to introduce my favorite manga. I’m from Nagasaki. Last summer vacation, I was hanging out with my friend in Nagasaki. She loves comics and manga, so she introduced “Demon Slayer” to me. I read it and I was into it. The characters are very cute and battle scenes are very cool. I spent a lot of money buying whole volume, but I was very happy. I have a brother, and we both like and play tennis. One day, my brother bought The Prince of tennis, so I borrowed it from him and read them. They are very exciting. A main character says “You still have lots more to work on” when he makes a point. Doiguchi Hiroya Hi! My name is Hiroya Doiguchi. I’m a second-year student studying Chemistry at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in Biology, math, and physical education. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto I like watching anime and reading manga and comics. When I was a high school student, I often watched anime. I also read the original manga of the anime I watched. I often borrow it from my friends. However, I moved on to a different university from my friends, so I don’t really read manga. This spring vacation, for the first time in a long time I went to a bookstore to read manga. Then I picked up this manga, the title is Kusuriya no Hitorigoto. This manga is originally an online novel written by Hyuga Natsu. In the story the main character, Mao Mao, a former pharmacist, solves a case in the palace. I like main character Mao Mao, because she is knowledgeable about medicine and looks so cool when she’s solving cases.

Fujihara Yuna Hi! My name is Yuna Fujihara. I’m a secondyear student studying pharmaceutical sciences at Osaka University at of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in organic chemistry, pharmacognosy, and biochemistry. I also like listening to music, sleeping, and traveling.

Uchukyodai When I was junior high school student, I saw an anime called Uchukyodai for the first time. My brother had a collection of these manga and I borrowed one. This manga is the story about two brothers who work hard towards their childhood dreams of becoming astronauts. Older brother is Mutta whose hair has a great shape. His younger brother is Hibito who is a hard worker and nicknamed “Samurai Boy”. There are many famous quotes from this manga. My favorite famous quote is “The truth is that one huge door simply doesn’t exit. There are just lots and lots of small ones.” This means it is important to keep striving for the next door. When I almost feel like giving up, I remember these words and feel encouraged. Gouda Momoko Hi! My name is Gouda Momoko. I’m a Secondyear student studying pharmaceutical sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in chemistry, medicinal plants and biology. I also like watching movies, reading comics and eating.

Unsung Cinderella I don’t like manga or comics, but I don’t dislike them. I don’t read manga or comics usually, so I don’t know a lot about them. I had trouble with choosing manga because I don’t have a favorite one. I searched for a manga on the internet, and I found Unsung Cinderella. I started wanting to read it when I read the summary because it’s about a pharmacist. I thought it was rare to have a manga about a pharmacist. I bought it on the internet. I was really impressed when I read it, and it became my favorite manga. I recommend you read it too. The character is a hospital pharmacist, and she has been working for two years. I was able to know what pharmacists are: they are unsung heros. Whether readers are interested in pharmacists or not, they will enjoy this manga. We are able to know how hard and rewarding a pharmacist’s work can be.

Hagata Shihori Hi! My name is Shihori Hagata. I’m a secondyear student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m intrested in herbal medicine, biochemistry, and pharmacology. I also like shopping, traveling, and sleeping.

My favorite manga: Magi!! I really like a manga called Magi. I first came across this manga when I was in the first grade of junior high school, and I was encouraged by my seniors to borrow it. It’s about the adventures of a special magician, of which there are only three in the world. It’s a wonderful work that shows you how they fight their biggest enemies while capturing dungeons and collaborating with their companions. It also shows the conflicts and growth of each character, and raises questions about issues such as poverty and discrimination. The story setting is also detailed. Because the pictures are beautiful and each character’s personality shines through, I think it’s very close to perfection.

Hagino Mai Hi! My name is Mai Hagino. I’m a second-year student studying medicine at Osaka University of Pharmatical Sciences. My professional interests include Chinese medicine, chemistry, and biology. My interests are dancing, cooking, eating, sleeping, and games!

Golgo 13 I started reading this manga because my father likes and recommend it to me. My father started buying this manga when he was a college student. There are about one hundred forty volumes at home. I read it when I was a junior high school student. The hero’s code name is Golgo 13 and his alias is Duke Togo. He is a firstclass sniper and undertakes sniping jobs at the request of others. However, his identity (such as his career) is unknown. Through this manga, you can get information related to word affairs, information warfare, and other certain fields. For example, I found out that even if you can’t transfuse blood, you can provide first aid by adjusting the concentration of body fluid to saline solution using seawater. This manga is still going on today. Currently, the number of books is the third largest in Japan. It is also the fourth longest manga series. I am interested in how long it will last. Please read it.

Hattori Seira Hi! My name is Seira Hattori. I’m a second-year student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in chemistry, drug ingredients, and the effects of drugs on the human body. I also like table tennis, traveling, and taking to friends.

Nodame Cantabile I like manga. When I was in junior high school, I watched the drama Nodame Cantabile. The drama is a motion picture in which the storyline is interspersed with music. By the way, I have been playing the piano since I was three years old and I like music, so I was impressed with it. My mother also likes it and she just has all the manga volumes, so I borrowed them from her. There are two main characters. One is a piano major and the other aims to be a conductor. I like the manga’s story content rather than the picture. It’s quite deep. I get tired easily, but the story taught me the importance of facing the things we decide to face. The story involves music, but it’s a comedy and very interesting. So even if you’re not intereste in music, you can still enjoy it!

Hayashi Maiko Hi! My name is Maiko Hayashi. I’m a secondyear student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in chemistry, biology, and crude drugs. I also like reading, playing the piano, and Japanese archery.

Slam Dunk I like comics and manga. When I was in elementary school, I often read manga about historical people, like Columbus, the Wright brothers, Edison, and more, for example. But they were difficult to understand completely. So, I tried to find a manga I could read easily. I was member of the basketball club in elementary school, so I wanted to read a manga about basketball. I went to the library in my school, and found Slam Dunk by Takehiko Inoue. The story is about basketball players in Shonan High School. Most of them were bad boys before they started playing basketball. But they practice very hard to be the champions of the whole country. My favorite character is Hisashi Mitsui. He is good at shooting threepointers. I wanted to be a player like him, so I practiced shooting threepointers when I was in high school.

Hosokawa Daisuke Hi! My name is Daisuke. I’m a second-year student studying pharmaceutical science at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in science, physics, and Chinese herbal medicine. I also like basketball, cats, and music.

I like manga so I collect many kinds of them. I often get them from bookstores but these days I tend to get them on the Internet. When i’m interested in a manga, I read it quickly. I have two favorite manga. They are Uramichi Oniisan and Sakamoto desuga? I found Uramichi Oniisan in Kinokuniya bookstore in Tenoji. The video introducing it was shown there. Before I realized, it drew my attention. The story is about an exerciser who is twofaced: officialy he is very energetic and tough, but he always feels tired. I think he’s just like a real person and very interesting! Sakamoto desuga? is also a funny manga. The story is about a stylish high school student: he is very smart and has a quick wit. He is admired by his classmates. I also think he is cool and wonderful in many ways. My brother also likes this manga, so there are two copies of Volume 4 in my house; one for my brother and me each. I like comedy manga. I recommend reading comedies if you don’t enjoy reading manga; you might enjoy it!!

Hotta Miyu Hi! My name is Miyu. I’m a second-year student studying pharmaceutics at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in Chemistry, functional morphology and drug therapy. It was created in the motif of ancient Asia. This story is about a princess who is kicked out of her castle and becomes stronger together with her friends. She grows to overcome all her difficulties. The protagonist of this story is a girl of fifteen years. Her name is Yona; she’s a princess with red hair. The other characters are very cool. They risk their lives to protect her. I bought this manga from Line manga, so I can read it anywhere. I read it whenever I have time. Please read it if you have a chance.

My dream Hello, I’d like to introduce you to Ansangu Cinderella. This manga is about a pharmacist working in a hospital. It was actually written by pharmacists working in hospitals. The reason I bought this book is because it is one of my dreams for the future. I wanted to learn about this job, even a little bit. I think this manga is very rare because the main character in the manga, which is set in the hospital, is usually a doctor or a nurse. The book talks about the pharmacists’ current situation and challenges, and how to support patients’ anxiety and problems from a pharmacist’s perspective. Pharmacists working in hospitals are not a prominent profession, so I think most people don’t know much about it. So I would like you to read this book and learn about this occupation.

Inui Nanami Hi! My name is Nanami. I’m a second-year student studying chemistry at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in pharmacology, analysis and biochemistry. I also like collecting flower earrings, shopping and playing volleyball.

About Space Brothers I love manga. I have read a lot of manga. Of all the comics I’ve read so far, the one I like and read back most is Space Brothers. I have collected them all. It is the story of an older brother who dreams of “the brothers who stand on the moon.” The story begins with this brother, the hero, who has given up on his dream and was on a different path, but his younger brother was about to stand on the moon as an astronaut. The hero has given up on looking for reasons why he cannot meet the conditions to be an astronaut. I sympathized with such heros. I can understand the feeling of giving up at the beginning by looking for the reason why I can’t do it. So I was attracted to this manga. Above all, it’s interesting and fun to read because you can feel closer to NASA and JAXA. There is also an English version, so I hope you will read that!

Katayama Chihiro Hi! My name is Chihiro Katayama. I’m a Second-year student studying Pharmacy at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in cooking, how to use make up, and driving. I also like reading books, singing, and playing with cats.

Nodame Cantabile When I was a kid, I didn’t like manga so much. But there was only one manga my mother bought: it was called Nodame Cantabile. My mother also influenced me to read this manga. Simply put, this manga is a fusion of love and music. The main character, Nodame, is so pure and the story of love is very interesting. It is also cool when Nodame sits down at the piano. This manga was written by Tomoko Ninomiya, and I fell in love with her after reading this manga. It’s wonderful to be able to create a work that mixes pure love and classical music, and I’d like you to read her work.

Kato Marika Hi! My name is Marika Kato. I’m a second-year student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in pharmacotherapeutics, microbiology, and chemical agents. I also like collecting stuffed animals, listening to music, and watching movies.

Bakuman and Haikyu I like comics and manga. I didn’t read them until I was a junior high school student, but I’ve loved them since I started watching the anime Bakuman on TV. I first saw it with my brother when we were junior high school students. This story is about two main characters (junior high school students) who want to become the first manga artists. I felt that the manga artists are always busy chasing deadlines every week. In that way I was drawn into the world of manga. Thereafter, I came across the Haikyu while I was reading many manga and I was absorbed in playing badminton (the characters in this manga are absorbed in playing volleyball). My favorite manga came to an end so I’m very sad, but I look forward to the next release. Their manga shows me that dreams and goals always come true.

Kawai Saki Hi, my name is Saki Kawai. I’m a second-year student studying at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in organic chemistry, biopharmacy, and drug therapy. I also like cooking sweets, playing badminton, and listening to music.

One Piece I love comics and manga. When I was a child I used to read a lot of comics. I read a lot because my dad had a lot of comics. When I was a middle school student I read One Piece again and again. I really enjoyed it a lot; the story is so exciting, deep, funny and sad at times, and the main characters are very cool. It is an adventure story about Luffy, a man with elastic abilities he got from eating a Gum-Gum Fruit; with his diverse crew of pirated, he wants to become the next Pirate King. Luffy is very strong, he’s a good friend and he’s funny. I like Luffy, and I like many characters in One Piece. Everyone is cool.

Naruto (1994-2014) Author: Kishimoto Masashi Naruto is a ninja’s tale. First, please let me talk about the main character, Naruto. Naruto, the bottom of his class in the Ninja academy, has a dream to become lord Hokage, the best ninja in the country. He has a secret power of Nine-Tails, which he got from a monster who attacked Naruto’s village before. The monster was sealed into Naruto, and the people in the village are scared of him. On top of that his parents were killed by the monster, so he was a lonely boy. But Naruto overcame a desperate struggle with duty and this formidable enemy, and developed friendships. He was gradually recognized by the people in the village. The first time I read this manga, I was moved by how the main character is trying his best throughout the comic. My favorite scene is where Nine-tails tells Naruto his name and they fight together against a strong enemy. I strongly recommend you see it.

I love this manga I often read novels, but I seldom read manga. But still, I like this manga very much and I read it over and over again. It’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. When I was a junior high school student, my friend recommended it to me and I started to read it. This series has eight parts. I especially like especially part four. In part four, the characters with supernatural powers fight against various enemies. I especially like the beauty of the pictures and the unearthly story. This photo is of a spin-off book. This is a bizarre story too. It has four short stories. The main character is Rohan Kishibe who appears in part four. He is a comic writer and an eccentric person. I love the world building of Jojo.

Kawano Mari Hi! My name is Mari Kawano. I’m a second-year student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in biopharmacy, physics, and chemicals. I also like watching sports, watcing movies, and reading books.

IDOLiSH7 IDOLiSH7 is an application for smartphones provided by Bandai Namco Online. This game is both a rhythm and a story game. In the main story, seven people who have just met and who have different personalities and individualities form an idol group called “IDOLiSH7”, aiming to become a top idol group and fulfill their dreams. The attraction of this game is that the characters and stories are very realistic and complete as if the idols really existed. The story of this game is not how the boys fully demonstrate their charm, but about boys who become idols and face all kinds of hardships growing up. It is dramatic and makes me sympathize with the characters. IDOLiSH7 is so wonderful that I can’t express it with my vocabulary. I found this game six months ago and bought several novels and comics of it. This comic is one of them. This comic contains stories that weren’t told in the main story, and I was able to learn about the various emotions held by the idols and get deeper into the world of the work.

Kawate Sayaka Hi! my name is Sayaka Kawate. I’m a secondyear student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, and Biology. I also like playing games, listening to music, and watching youtube.

One Piece I didn’t read manga and comics when I was a child. But I liked only one; it’s name was One Piece. I got this manga from my father’s bookshelf when I was an elementary school student. This story’s hero is Luffy, and he has eight companions; Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, and Brook. They are very individual characters, and also funny and very strong. Luffy’s maxim is “I’m going to be the King of the Pirates!”. This story is very interesting and impressive!! Oda Eiichiro writes One Piece. He got a Guiness World Records for One Piece being the best manga. This picture is a latest issue and my favorite scene. It’s a touching scene, and makes me cry every time. One Piece is very amazing story, so I want you to read it. Surely you will love this comic.

Very Inspiring Manga Today I would like to introduce you to a manga that influenced me. The title of the manga is Space Brothers. Mutta, the older brother and a man who is excellent but dosen’t believe in his own ability and tends to fall into negative thinking. In the midst of his frustration of unemployment, Mutta regained his dream he pledged to his younger brother, Hibito, at an early age, and he begins to chase after Hibito who has already fulfilled his dream of becoming an astronaut. Mutta becomes an astronaut after overcoming many difficulties by following his brother’s back. “We’re alive, we’ll both stand on the moon.” Mutta is guided by his younger brother ahead of him, and when Hibito stops, he gently pushes his back and the two continue to run toward the continuation of their dreams. I thought that I should not give up my dream while I’m alive after reading this. What did you want to be when you were little? I used to be asked this question, but now that I’m an adult, I’m asked less often. However, within myself, I want to pursue my dream at any age, no matter how old I am.

Drifting Dragons and Kekkaishi My family and I love comics and manga. There are more than 500 manga books in my house. When I was little, I read my father’s collections of Dragon Ball and Akira. When I was hunting for the manga my father had collected, I found Drifting Dragons. It was a manga about traveling the sky in search of delicious dragon meat. I was thrilled to explore the unknown and it was sometimes appetizing. Furthermore, I also came across Kekkaishi looking through my father’s collection. It’s a manga where students at High School try to wipe out Ayakashi. The growth of the protagonist and the fight with the Ayakashi were very attractive. In both works, many unique characters appear and make you laugh and move you too. My favorite character is Gen Shishio. He is a rival and close friend of the protagonist. He and the protagonist grow together, you should check it out.

Konishi Ryuto Hi! My name is Ryuto Konishi. I’m a second-year student studying Pharmacy at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. My favorite manga of Kingdom I like Kingdom of manga. My friend introduced me to it and I read it a year ago. I am looking forward to the new release. The story is about a war in ancient China. The hero aims to be a general and unify China. He has a strong sense of responsibility and he cares about his subordinates. In addition, he never gives up when fighting, no matter how strong his opponent is. Therefore, I think he is so cool. This manga’s characters have features. The wars in this manga are also exciting. MAR When I was a junior high school student, I often went to my brother’s room in order to waste time, because he has a lot of manga. MAR is one of his favorite mangas and he recommended this to me. It’s about a man who is reincarnated in another world. Reincarnate means “tensei’’. The man, Ginta, battles enemies called soldiers of chess in order to return to his original world. My favorite point is the enemies’ characters. In this story, the background of each character is described clearly, and we can’t help loving all the characters. I like Ian the best. He is one of the soldiers of chess and Ginta’s rival. He has a girlfriend and he battles for her. In the end, he and his girlfriend leave the soldiers of chess to stand by Ginta. Kubota Ayana Hi! Snoopy I rarely read comics or manga, so I only have a few comics. When I was an elementary school student, my friends had their favorite comics and recommended them to me, but I didn’t want to read them. When I was a junior high school student, I met snoopy in Universal Studio Japan. He was very cute. From then, I started to collect many stuffed snoopys and goods. I found snoopy comics in the bookstore and I bought one of them. This is the book. Snoopy comics are single page comics, so I can read them easily. And many snoopy comics are written in English and Japanese. While I enjoy reading these comics, I can also learn English. There are many characters: Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy van Pelt, and more. They sometimes tell stories which make the reader happy and encourage the reader. For example, in the second picture, what she said makes me feel less anxious. When I read this story for the first time, I was surprised at the new thoughts I have. And drawings are very cute, so I like this comic.

The point I feel interesting is that Nagi thinks about herself and the life she has lived and tries to change herself.

Hatarakusaibo I loved comics and manga when I was in elementary school. I didn’t have many manga and comics at my home, but I often read comics and manga in my school library. The reason why I like manga is that the contents are easy to understand. However, as I grew up, I stopped reading comics and manga. Hatarausaibou is the first book I read as a college student. The first time I knew this book was at a university library. I borrowed it because I had a time and wanted to read a manga after a long time. The characters are cells (such as white blood cells and red blood cells). The heroine’s red blood cells are very cute. In the story, the cells in the body are seen as humans. A lot of cells and viruses appear as characters, which is a great learning experience. Mukaida Mao Hi! My name is Mao Mukaida. This manga describes everyday conversations between Hina, who is in kindergarten, and her family, friends and townspeople. This is the first manga I ever read. I read this manga for the first time when I was in the second grade of elementary school. This manga was easy for me to read because all pages in this manga are printed in color and don’t use difficult kanji in sentences. Since I started reading this manga, I became interested in other manga. Hina is a clever and polite girl and she is always thinking about food. She also loves her family, friends, townspeople and nature. Her smile is so cute. I am healed by their heart-warming conversations. Her grandfather is a knowledgeable person. That manga was Hoozuki no Reitetsu. Since then, I have read this manga. This manga is set in Japanese hell, and the protagonist is a demon who works there as an aide to Enma Daiou. His name is Hoozuki. I always laugh when I read this because this is a gag manga, and the story is funny. The illustrations are one of the attractions of this manga, they’re very fine and very beautiful. My favorite character is a white rabbit girl called Karashi. She also works in hell. She is very cute. But she is scary and very strong when she hears the word “Tanuki”. Nakasuji Yuina Hi! My name is Yuina. Last year, when I was interested in the anime my sister was watching, I was told that this anime was originally a comic. After that, I borrowed it from my sister and started to read it, The Promised Neverland. Now it is my favorite comic. The Promised Neverland is a story about a human farm that ships humans as meat. The psychological warfare that children use to escape from it is very interesting and I have no idea what will happen next; it really excites me. My favorite character is Emma. I like the way she acts with intuition instead of thinking before she acts. Nishida Natsuki Hi! My name is Natsuki Nishida. Baby Steps This story was published in “Magazine”. This magazine is popular among young people, and this cartoon is written about tennis. The main character’s name is Maruo Eiichiro. He is very smart but a beginner in tennis. It’s interesting to watch him grow. He practices very hard and gets better. This manga has many different elements. For example, friendship, effort and love. Anyone can enjoy reading it. Three years have passed since the series ended. There are a total of 47 volumes. I want to try once. Kimetsu no Yaiba I like Manga, and my brother likes it too. My brother recommended that this manga was very interesting and gave it to me. Now, I also like Kimetsu no Yaiba, and read it almost every day. The stage is set in Japan in the Taisho era. Kamado Tanjiro sells charcoal to the town and returns. When Tanjiro arrives at his house, he sees his family slaughtered. Only his younger sister Nezuko has survived alone, and she’s become a demon. Tanjiro goes on the road of demon hunting in order to return his demonized sister to a human being and to avenge his slaughtered family. Tanjiro defeats the demon while holding his sister who has become a demon. This is a very interesting story; a dark fantasy that mixes love and hate. I love Tanjiro. I am the same: the eldest son in the family, and so I sympathize with him. Tanjiro is very kind to people, tough on himself, and takes great care of his family and friends. I want to be like Tanjiro.

My Favorite Comic Book I love the comic Once Piece, which was written by Eiichiro Oda. The name of the main character in this comic is Luffy. His band, the “Straw Hat Pirates”, adventure in search of the treasure One Piece. There are fruits called Devil Fruits in this manga. Anyone who eats one will get an ability in return for being unable to swim. Luffy, the main character, ate a “rubber-rubber fruit”, and became a rubber human whose body stretches like rubber. If these Devil Fruits existed in the world where we live, I would want to eat Hanahana Fruit, which was eaten by one of the Straw Hat Crew members, Robin. The fruit’s ability lets the person instantly make a copy of their body’s tissues and grow like flowers from a distance. The part to grow can be grown from anywhere within the range of the ability of the person. I like this comic better than any other comic. If you are interested, please read it! The attached photo is an English version of One Piece that I bought when I went to Hawaii!

Bungo Stray Dogs I like this manga very much! When I was an elementary school student, my brother liked manga, so I started reading manga. I encountered this manga when I was in high school. This manga was animated and it was interesting, so I bought it and started reading. Various literary figures appear in the manga, such as Osamu Dazai, Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Kenji Miyazawa, and Fyodor Dostoevsky. Many of the characters that appear have special abilities. For example, the ability to fight, to analyze, to cure, and so on. The name of the ability is often the masterpiece of each writer. One of the attractions of this work is the growth of the protagonist. He is from an orphanage, and was on the verge of starvation after being driven out of the orphanage. From there, he meets friends he can trust, and fights desperately against their enemies to grow stronger. It’s great fun to see the growth of him and his friends, and sometimes the enemy. I look forward to their success in the future!!

I like him and think he is a genius. He is one of the leading manga artists in Japan. In addition to Dragon Ball, he also wrote Doctor Slump. He also designed a game called Dragon Quest. Dragon Ball has such a unique story. The main character, Son Goku, fights cool enemies. He becomes stronger with each fight. Sometimes he becomes stronger by transforming and through fusion. He uses a technique called the KAMEHAMEHA to defeat his enemies. Ofuka Go Hi. My name is Go Ofuka. Comics that give you passion The manga I chose is Diamond Ace. I bought it at a bookstore, read it with a friend who likes baseball, and got into the fun of high school baseball. My favorite character is the hero. He is committed to everything and is dedicated to his goals. When I was in high school, I used to read everyday, but when I became a college student, I had more friends and less reading time. I am still learning a lot from the attitude of the protagonist however. Even if you don’t know baseball, I recommend that you explain the rules in an easy-to-understand manner. If you are interested in sports, why not read this once.

Detective Conan I like this manga. The reason why I started reading this was interesting when I first saw a Conan movie. When I was in the first grade of elementary school, I watched a movie called Shiver Music. My favorite characters in this cartoon is Toru Amuro, Rei Huruya or Bourbon. These three names are the same person. He belongs to the National Police Agency Security Bureau Security Planning Division, and he is also a private detective who infiltrated black organizations. He always looks perfect, but there are a few things missing. That is my favorite part. My favorite story is the Mystery Train Series. This is a murder case occurring in a mystery train, but the main story is that Bourbon and Vermouth are trying to kill Sherry who betrayed the black organization, and Conan and his friends help Sherry. It was very impressive the way that various people cheat each other. As other manga, I recommend Zero’s Tea Time which is an official spin-off work with Toru Amuro as the main character. This is a story about how Toru Amuro spends his days behindthe-scenes during Conan’s story. There are lots of stories within stories so it’s very funny.

It tells a story of Hinata, an unskilled, high potential team-mate who learns a lot. The main characters are Hinata, who is 160cm, and Kageyama, who is a super setter. They are best buddies. Yugo Hachiken, who was attending a private junior high school in Sapporo, lost his scholastic academic competition to a higher school and was exhausted because of a bad relationship with his father who put a lot of pressure on him. At that time, he went to an agricultural high school because a teacher in his junior high school recommended so. The reason he chose the agricultural high school was there is a dormitory and he didn’t have any dreams or want to do anything there. He went to the agricultural high school to escape. While many of his classmates were enrolling in the agricultural high school with their dreams and hopes for the future, Hachiken was feeling very small. In addition, most of the lessons are first-time experiences, and he felt confused in an unfamiliar environment. He learns to have more fun with friends and gradually adapts. But actually he is not an elementary school student; he is a high school student and a high school student detective. He took the medicine given to him by a bad guy and his body changed into an elementary school student. He has always been a very good detective and he is still an excellent detective even when his body shrinks. He has solved many difficult cases with his excellent brain and his friends. His ultimate goal is defeating the bad peoples who gave him the medicine. I think this comic is loved by many people from adults to children all over the world. I read this comic many times. For example, I read Sailor Moon and Chihayafuru. I like the original manga behind the anime. I usually buy comics at book shop. Sometimes I borrow them from my friends. It is fun to read the same comics with friends. In addition, I’m happy when I talk about my impression of the comics with friends. My love of comics was influenced by my friends. Let me tell you about the first comic I ever read. It was Doraemon. Doraemon is a cat-shaped robot. He rode a time machine all the way back from the 22nd century to help Nobita. He uses secret tools out of his 4D Pocket on his belly whenever Nobita is in trouble. These comics are full of dreams! They are my favorite. I want to become friends with Doraemon. My favorite manga The manga I recommend is “cells at work”. It explains various events that occur in the body with the movements and lines of anthropomorphic characters. I knew it when I was in high school. I didn’t like biology very much, because there was so much to remember. I didn’t especially understand the immune system and so I was struggling to prepare for the exam. At that time, a biology teacher recommended me to read this manga. It taught me about the immune system in ways that were easy to understand. Each cell is drawn uniquely; the white blood cells for example, are cool characters that always help other cells. For this reason, once I read it, I was able to understand the many functions of cells. There are other series as well. The author is different depending on the series, so the manga pictures are different. This is also the fun of it. If we read it, we can learn how cells and bacteria work in our body. Please read “cells at work” too.

I’ve seen this manga on TV, so I wanted to read it. It is about a high school volleyball club. A boy from a weak elementary school struggles to compete in the national tournament. I knew that there was an original comics behind the movie and started getting interested in it. As I like a movies and TV, I don’t read comics frequently. But I read them when I want to read them in my free time. Chihayafuru is about a karuta competition. It begins with the scene in which the main character Ayase Chihaya risks her seat as a queen to fight for it. I like the artist Caho. Kuroko no Basuke My favorite manga is Kuroko no Basuke. It’s very exciting and impressive. Kuroko no Basuke is a story of basketball teams in high school. Kuroko Tetsuya is main character. He is very forgettable. Taking advantage of this features, he plays characteristic basketball with his team mates. His junior high school friends are very good at basketball. They are called Kiseki no Sedai. They went to different high schools than Kuroko. Starting out as high school students, they are fighting as opponents. I knew Kuroko no Basuke because I started watching it on TV. I got the manga as a Christmas present when I was a junior high school student. After that, I always went to buy it on the release date. It was serialized in Jump: a famous magazine which serializes Kimetsu no Yaiba and Naruto. My favorite character is Akashi Seijyuro. Aoashi I love comics and manga. I often read both. I bought comics for the first time when I was in elementary school with my pocket money; Jump comics. I stated buying soccer comics after I entered middle school. For example Aoashi, Days and Giant Killing. Let me tell you about Aoashi. This comic was recommended to me by my brother. There was something different to all the other manga I’ve read so far. There is a logic to winning matches. There is no such thing as spirit or guts. The main character, Aoi Ashito, is a soccer player who has physical abilities. He is scouted by a youth team in Tokyo and joins. He realizes that soccer he has been palying so far doesn’t work for him anymore. In this story he learns soccer from scratch and grows in the process.

Doraemon Doraemon is a manga written by Fujiko F. Fujio. The main character is Nobita, a boy who is not good at studying or playing sports. He lives with Doraemon, a robot who came from the 22nd Century to change Nobita’s unhappy future into a happy one. Doraemon has many strange tools and they help Nobita when he encounters any difficulties. I first saw it with my brother when I was an elementary school student. This manga made us happy and impressed because the friendship between Doraemon and Nobita is very nice. In addition, it was made into a movie. I saw it many times and I also want to recommend it to you. You can’t watch this movie without crying. Please check it out!

Ragar Nyan and Sibusugi Gijyutsu ni Otokonaki 3 I got these manga from the Kino Kuniya book store. I like manga very much. Ragar Nyan: When the Japan national rugby union team advanced to quarter finals, I was so excited and wanted to understand the rules of rugby. This book explained everything to me from the very beginning with very cute cats. The more they improve in rugby, the more I understand it. So I was into the next game with South Africa. Sibusugi Gijyutsu ni Otokonaki 3: This manga teaches me about some skilled craftsman who run their own factories using their skills. They experienced many difficulties, but learned many things and got their own skill by overcoming these difficulties... especially the story where Sugano Yonezou makes the “o-deko” was really impressive. The “o-deko” machine enables blind people to feel things. This story was really impressive for me. Other stories also inspired me.

Space Brothers I’ve liked manga ever since I was in elementary school. I used to read manga about the great celebrities. I always read manga in the library because my parents didn’t allow me to buy manga back then. When I was in junior high school, I was hospitalized with pneumonia. At the time, the kind hospital staff lent me various manga. That was the first time I read Space Brothers, and it’s now my favorite manga. This manga has made my hospital life enjoyable. Surprisingly, my mother then gave me Space Brothers for a birthday present! This is the story of two brothers who swear to each other to stand on the moon together. As I was interested in space, the story was good for me. It was so exciting. There are many unique characters. My favorite character is Nanda Mutta. I’m surprised and moved by his ideas and words.

My favorite comic book My favorite manga is Magi. I first came across this manga when I was in the fifth grade. At first, I learned about this manga not in bookstores but from the TV anime. My favorite character is Alibaba. He lived in a slum when he was a child, but his mother was actually a queen and he a prince. In his country, there was a big gap between the rich and the poor between the royal family and the citizens, and the anger of the citizens was considerable. He was familiar with the ideas of the citizens, so he chose to maintain the country as a republic rather than becoming king. Magi lets you read about the confrontation between a side that heals people by accepting sadness, rather than letting the anger fill the world, and the side of people who fill the world with sadness by using the anger of people. It lets you think about each one. Please read it.

Shocking Comic The manga I chose is JoJo’s bizarre adventure. I first read it four years ago and I was shocked. It has been a longterm series, from 1987 to the present. This comic consists 8 parts. The hero changes depending on the part. For example, high school students and gangsters. The author is influenced by Italian art and creates unique paintings not found in other comics. The story is about defeating the Last Boss using a spiritual technique called a Stand. In many cases, the identity of the Last Boss is unknown until the end of the story, and you can read it while being excited.

Tanaka Ryotaro Hi! My name is Tanaka Ryotaro. I’m a second-year student studying pharmacy at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I like sake and tennis.

One Piece I usually don’t read manga so much, but since I wanted to know more after watching the anime, I started reading manga. I started reading with an application that allows me to read one episode a day on my smartphone. I started reading One Piece when I was in my third year of high school, and I had a hard time studying for the exams every day, but I was able to do my best and I enjoyed reading it before going to bed. The main character, Luffy, goes on an adventure to become a pirate king, and creates bonds with his friends; he laughs, cries, and has a variety of other emotions. I think it’s one of the most popular animes in the world. The most moving scene is where Luffy’s brother Ace dies. I think it was a very shocking and moving scene when his brother, whome he spent his childhood with, was killed in front of him. I didn’t cry during this scene. There are many other famous scenes as well. I also recommend Kimetsu no Yaiba, Naruto, Major, Yowamusi Pedal and Detective Conan.

Fairy Tail I love manga. I usually get manga from Tsutaya. I read manga every day. My favorite manga is Fairy Tail. When I was junior high school student I read many manga; my cousin had Hiro Mashima’s manga, of which I read all of them. Fairy Tail is a story about a magician. My favorite character, the dragon slayer Natsu uses fire magic. He belongs to the magician’s guild, Fairy Tail. Every member of the guild is a problem child, but everyone takes care other members, like a family. I like Hiro Mashima’s manga Fairy Tail, Rave and Monster Hunter Orage. I like the names of main character in his manga. they are very unique. Rave’s is Haru, in Fairy Tail it’s Natsu and Aki, Fuyu and Monster Hunter’s Shiki. Their names are derived from Japanese Shiki. My favorite Manga I love Manga. I have read many manga since I was small. I bought manga once a month when I was an elementary school student. Therefore, I have more than 100 manga books. When I was a junior high school student, I was recommended a certain anime by my friends. It was Gintama, and I got hooked. So I started reading the original manga series. The story of Gintama is about a samurai in the late Edo period. It has a sense of humor and is very interesting. But, sometimes it is a sad story and makes me think aout various things. My favorite characters are Hijikata and Sasaki. They are very cool and considerate, but a little careless. But that’s the reason why I like them. Tanimoto Naoko Hi! My name is Tanimoto Naoko. I’m a secondyear student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. I’m interested in chemistry, biology, and medical reseach. I also like watching movies, visiting castles, and reading books.

I am loved by genderless boys I love this manga. The title of the manga is “Jenda-res Danshi Ni Aisarete Imasu” in Japanese. Genderless means “suitable to or for either sex”. There is a boy called Meguru-kun (a character in this book) who is cool and cute. I’ll talk about two reasons why I love this manga. First, the pictures in this manga are so beautiful!! I like this cover especially. It uses various colors like blue, yellow, purple, pink, etc. I love this color and usage! Secondly, of course I like the storyline. This manga has two characters mainly. One is Meguru-kun and the other is Wako-chan. Wako-chan is a comic book editor and really really really loves Meguru-kun! She takes pictures of Meguru-kun all the time. And she always works hard. Meguru-kun works at a vintage clothing store. He is a model and famous on social media. He is perfect at styling, makeup and pretty nails! His self-improvement is for her, and also he is her No.1 favorite. This manga is not completed yet, and the third volume is scheduled for publishing! I can’t wait! If you are intersted in this manga, please read it!

So, I bought this comic at bookstore. I read it as soon as this new comics are published. Simply put, this comics’ story is about very pure love. The main characters are very smart, but they can’t love honestly. The main characters are a man and a woman. The man’s name is Miyuki Shirogane and the woman’s name is Kaguya Shinomiya. In fact, they fall in love each other. This is an interesting point.

Sazaesan I like reading manga. I usually read manga every day on my cell phone. My favorite is Sazaesan. I watched Sazaesan anime from an early age, but the first time I read the manga was when I was in junior high school. I got this manga from my father. The story is about Sazae Fuguta, the main character who lives with Namihei, Fune, Masuo, Katsuo, Wakame, Tara, and Tama. It’s a story about thier family; it makes me laugh unexpectedly because something interesting happens every time. My favorite character is Katsuo, because he is easily flattered. I like the scene where Katsuo is chased by Sazae. The author I especially like is Ms. Machiko Hasegawa. This is because her drawings are warm and charming. Sazaesan is a manga that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, so please give it a read.

ATASHIn’CHE Do you know ATASHIn’CHE? It is very famous manga. I found this manga on my bookshelf at home. It was neither big nor small. My father said he bought it in 1999. This manga appeared as a series in the Yomiuri. I hardly read manga and comics, but I watch anime. This manga was made into an anime. I watch anime more than I read manga, so I read this manga for first time. This manga describes everyday life. This family spends one days in peace and quiet. This story describes their life. For example, the family conversations, mother’s habits and the complex patterns of human relationships. I started thinking about my family. Every family has a different life. There are no common families. That’s what makes this story interesting. So, I recommended you read ATASHI’CHE.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba I don’t like comics so much. However, l got addicted to this comic from a friend of mine. My friend recommended this comic, so I borrowed it and started reading it about two months ago. There are two reasons why I fell in love with this comic. The first is that this comic is about family love. I think family love is popular with all generations because it is the same for everyone. Secondly, this comic is written not only from the protagonists point of view, but also from the perspective of the enemy; the demons. It also depicts the past that the demons bear. I felt great that the enemies didn’t necessarily decide that they were all bad. The outline of the comic is that the hero’s family has been attacked by a demon, and only the sister survived, but she has become a demon. The story is about the younger sister trying to become human again.

And I bought it from a bookstore. I read it once a week. My favorite character is Akashi Seijuro. He is so cool. At first, he seems very ruthless and scary. This manga is set in Seirin High School, the stage for the story. It is in the second year of its founding, but the basketball club really wants to be known by the whole country. The characters Tetsuya Kuroko and Taiga Kagami return from America to join. The story is about these two students aiming to beat the generation of Kiseki and become the best in Japan. Romance Dawn!! I chose One Piece. This is one of the most famous comics in Japan. This comic has been serialized in a weekly magazine from 1997. The magazine’s name is 週間少年ジャンプ from Shueisha. I have been reading it since I was 10 years old. In the second story, my favorite character is Trafalgar Law. His synonym is the “Surgeon of death”. This is the reason he ate the devil fruit called Ope Ope fruit. His ability makes one person immortal, but if he uses this ability, he dies. The stories from One Piece have been made into movies. There are 14 movies in total. But my favorite is Strong World. Please check it out. Finally, this is the most interesting comic in my life. I thought about rereading them in this summer when I was writing this sentence. Would you like to try a devil fruit which will give you a special ability?

One-Punch Man One-Punch Man is a manga written by One. One is the author’s name. Let me tell you about it. The main character of One-Punch Man is Saitama, who is a hero. His battle scenes are so cool. Whenever he fights any monster, he finishes it with one punch. However, when he doesn’t fight monsters, he is just a common person. The secret of his strength is muscle training. His training menu includes 100 push-ups, sit-ups, squats and a 10km run every day, even if his body is not in great condition. Also, he spends the whole year without using his air conditioner. I don’t think anyone can be as strong as he is in this way. However, he taught me about the importance of effort. These are the reasons why I like One-Punch Man. This Manga was recommended to me by friend and I bought it at a bookstore. When I first read it, I was surprised at the astonishing power of Saitama. I read it in my spare time, even now. If you read One-Punch Man, you will become a fan.

Sazae San As you know, this manga is the original manga from the anime Sazae-san. I think most people have seen anime but never read the manga version. The heroin of this manga is Sazae and the manga itself tell us about the importance of family love through Japanese jokes. Before I encountered this comic, I usually didn’t read comic books. The first time I came across this manga, I found it at my grandparent’s house, so I was interested in what the manga version was like and started reading. From there, I became more and more familiar with the appeal of the manga and how to enjoy it. There are two lessons from this manga. First, I found out how to enjoy manga, compared to the anime or movies, for example. Secondly, whenever I feel down, Sazae’s character cheers me up. I realized that it was important to find something to cheer me up when I feel down.

Bone and Dr. Slump I love comics and manga. When I was a kid I used to read a lot of comics; my dad had a collection of Dan Dare, Tintin and Asterix and Obelix, which I read all of them. When I was in high school I spent a lot of money buying Punisher, Groo and Bone comics. I really enjoyed the bone comics a lot; the art is amazing, the story is so exciting, deep and amazingly funny at times, and the main characters, the “Bones” are cute white characters. After I came to Japan I started reading a bit of Manga. I haven’t read a lot, but I did read Dragon Ball to practice Japanese. That’s how I found out about Akira Toriyama, and the other comics he wrote. One of them is Dr. Slump, which is now possibly my favourite Manga. The humour is very childish, but I think it’s unbelievably funny. My favourite characters are the Biker Gang. The leader always punishes the others by picking his nose and sticking his finger on their faces.

Duncan Brotherton Hello everyone! Thanks for helping to put together such a great magazine. I hope you’ll all keep in touch with each other in the future; university friends are friends for life.
