Cape May Presbyterian Church

You are welcome to worship with us any Sunday!

Through the last Sunday in September, we hope you will join us at Decatur Street beach at 8:30am for Traditional Worship. Bring your own seat and shade (we are live on Facebook for this service; videos can be seen any time on YouTube). For air-conditioning and a later hour, come to our 11am Celebration Worship with jazz instead!

Our Annual Back-to-School Fair will take place on Aug. 18 from 12-2pm on the lower floor of our church. Bring the kids and shop for backpacks and school supplies they need, for free!

Also on August 18, at 3 pm, Jazz Vespers features songstress Gina Roché, right here in our lovely and acoustically amazing sanctuary, at 3 pm for only a $10 donation. Then on Sept 15, (same time, same donation!) Jazz Vespers welcomes another favorite artist, Paul Jost. You can find us any time on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube, or by sending us an email or giving us a call.

PEPPER’S GHOST?

Grand Lighthouse Cruise

SATURDAYS, AUG. 17 & SEPT. 7: 10AM-3PM

Coastal and off-shore lighthouses have helped mariners navigate the Delaware Bay for years, but the off-shore lighthouses are best seen by boat. To aid ships sailing the treacherous mid-channel of Delaware Bay, a series of lighthouses was constructed in the 19th and early 20th century. Most of these are still operating and all are automated. They stand on pedestals surrounded by water out of sight of land. Visit seven of these off-shore lighthouses aboard the Cape May Whale Watcher and learn the unique history of each on this five-hour cruise that includes breakfast and lunch buffets; a cash bar is available. Cruise departs at 10am from the Miss Chris Marina, 2nd Avenue and Wilson Drive. Cruise is limited to 175 people. Free parking is available at the marina.

Adults $159.95; children (ages 12 & under) $125

A hidden treasure in the heart of Cape May The Colonial House (c.11730) was originally a tavern and the family home of Revolutionary War Patriot Memucan Hughes. The front room features a tavern room. Other rooms open to the public in this unsung sur vivor from Cape Island’s very beginning depict a colonial era cooking/eating room. A fine example of vernacular architecture and one of only a few remaining colonial homes open to the public in Cape May County. Colonial gardens designed by the Garden Club of Cape May surround the house.

Hauntingly Exciting PHYSICK HOUSE TOURS

If you are curious if the rumors are true ... come find out!

Historic Haunts Combination Tour

Take an evening trolley ride through the Historic District and hear stories of haunted Cape May. Step off the trolley at the Physick House Museum with your guide and see select rooms of the Physick House Museum, reputed to be haunted, as you learn about Victorian Spiritualism. This tour combines a Ghosts of Cape May trolley tour with a visit to the Physick House. In the museum, guides will compare the methods of spirit contact used by the Victorians with those of today’s paranormal investigators. Select rooms on both floors are included in the tour.

Strange Victorian Obsessions House Tour

Victorians were fascinated with mystery and illusion and this tour through first floor rooms in the 1879 Physick House Museum shares that fascination. Learn about the famous Harry Houdini who captivated Victorian audiences with his intricate escapes, the Goddess of Mystery, Ionia, a Belgian beauty who Victorians worshipped for her spectacles of magic, The Great Lafayette, who became known as the world’s greatest magician, and Pepper’s Ghost, an illusion still used today, with Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper and more.

Voices From Beyond House Tour

Experience an unusual tour in Cape May MAC’s 1879 Emlen Physick House. In the Voices from Beyond Tour, you will hear actual spirit voices captured by Cape May MAC staff over the past 10 years. View historical photos of the Physick family and their staff alongside photos of apparitions seen inside the house. Learn about the equipment and tools used throughout history in paranormal research. Who could these voices belong to and what is keeping them connected to the Physick House Museum? Draw your own conclusions on this new and exciting paranormal tour.

Cherry House Haunting Tales Tour

The Cherry House, built in 1849 in the Federal style, is situated on one of Cape May’s oldest residential streets. It has been the subject of paranormal investigations and recordings of numerous unusual experiences. Home to Beth and Frank Acker along with their dog, Bella, the Ackers will relate the outcome of paranormal investigations at the house and the strange occurrences they’ve experienced on this guided tour of the first and second floors.

hristmas Candlelight House Tours

Don’t miss the highlight of the Christmas season in Victorian Cape May, America’s only National Historic Landmark City! Stroll and be merry along gaslit streets and visit more than a dozen homes, inns, B&Bs, churches and hotels seeing lovely interiors decorated for the holiday. This self-guided walking tour, centered in a 3/4-square-mile area of the Historic District, is Cape May’s longest running Christmas tour and Cape May MAC’s largest annual fund-raiser. While trolley shuttles will not be offered in 2024 as in years past, don’t worry. Most properties are clustered within a 20-minute walk in the Historic District with some just a few minutes from each other! Included is the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May’s only Victorian House Museum, decorated in authentic Victorian style, as well as the Old-Fashioned Christmas Exhibit with its extensive collection of Dept. 56 Dickens Village beneath the boughs of the gigantic Christmas tree in the Carriage House on the Estate grounds.

Tour presented by Cape May MAC

Sunday, Oct. 13: 5pm

Cape May Convention Hall, 714 Beach Ave. Presented by Dr. Craig L. Symonds

In this 12th year, Cape May MAC welcomes Dr. Craig L. Symonds to Cape May Convention Hall to present “The War Comes Home to America: U-boats off the Mid-Atlantic.” German U-boats made the mid-Atlantic one of the most dangerous places on earth in the first few months of 1942. The carnage they inflicted was out of proportion to their numbers and ships went down all along the coast from New York to Florida. How the United States dealt with this menace is one of the great stories of naval and U.S. history. Dr. Symonds taught history at the U.S. Naval Academy for 30 years and has earned numerous awards for his teaching and research. He is the author of 17 books translated into six languages and holds the Naval Historical Foundation Dudley Knox medal for lifetime achievement and the Pritzker Military Museum and Library Pritzker Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing. Tickets are limited. Advance reservations strongly recommended.
