Our Annual Back-to-School Fair will take place on Aug. 18 from 12-2 pm on the lower floor of our church. Bring the kids and shop for backpacks and school supplies they need, for free!
Also on Aug. 18, at 3 pm, Jazz Vespers features songstress Gina Roché, right here in our lovely and acoustically amazing sanctuary, at 3 pm for only a $10 donation.

This 90-minute tour by electric cart departs from the Washington Street Mall and takes you off the beaten track — Cape May’s “back streets and byways.” Discover the fascinating history of Cape Island, from its maritime and agricultural roots to its designation as a National Historic Landmark City, and more, from experienced guides with a professional driver. The cart will make two planned stops for photo opportunities. Tour returns to the Washington Street Mall. A minimum of two, maximum of four, people are required to run the tour.

We visited over MLK weekend and tacked the visit to the house onto our history trolley tour and we are so glad that we did. The history contained within the walls of this home is fascinating. The docent provided a wealth of interesting information and so much of the house remains original. Children’s Trolley Ride

Open-air ride begins at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth at Ocean Street where tickets are sold. Tickets may also be purchased online. Board MAC’s jolly red trolley for a fun ride geared especially for 3 to 7 year olds. From gingerbread you can’t eat to witches caps on houses and stories of pirates and princesses, kids will be fascinated by “show and tell” along the way. (30-minute ride). All children must be accompanied by an adult. Sorry, we cannot accommodate strollers.

Located at the Ocean Street end of the Washington Street Mall, the Information Booth sells tickets for any of our tours and events and provides answers to any questions you might have about what to do in Cape May. The trolley stop for our tours is located across the street from the Information Booth.
CARRIAGE HOUSE VISITORS CENTER
Located in the 1876 Carriage House on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. You may purchase tickets here for any tours or events. Free parking is available on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate. The Carriage House is also home to the Carriage House Museum Shop, the Carroll Gallery and Vintage restaurant. The Carriage House is fully accessible.
HILL HOUSE OFFICE
Located on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., Hill House is home to Cape May MAC’s business office. Climb aboard an open-air trolley to learn about Cape May’s connection to the Underground Railroad. Hear how enslaved people in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia were guided by the beacon of the Cape May Lighthouse. Hear why Harriet Tubman walked these streets before her freedom runs to the Eastern Shore. See the summer refuge of the formerly enslaved Stephen Smith, one of America’s wealthiest businessmen whose railroad cars ferried hundreds to freedom. Board the trolley at the Washington Street Mall information booth at Ocean Street for this 1.5-hour tour. Purchase tickets at the Booth or online. No rest rooms are available during this tour.

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TROLLEY TOUR & THE HARRIET TUBMAN MUSEUM

Visit the renowned Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey that tells the story of this hero of the Underground Railroad and combine it with the Underground Railroad Trolley Tour that is part of the National Park Service’s Network to Freedom. This 2.5 hour combination tour tells the story of those dangerous days. Hear how legendary anti-slavery fighter, Harriet Tubman, walked these streets, as did prominent railroad businessman and former slave, Stephen Smith, whose railroad cars carried hundreds to freedom. The tour begins at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth and travels through parts of Cape May and West Cape May, with stops along the way, including the Mt. Zion Cemetery, and ends with a tour at the Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey.

Natural Habitats TROLLEY TOUR

Cape May’s location along the Atlantic Flyway makes it a top destination worldwide for birders, especially during the migration seasons of spring and fall. This trolley tour, presented by a naturalist from New Jersey Audubon Society’s Nature Center of Cape May, drives past the most popular birding and nature “hot spots” in the Cape May region. Learn about Cape May’s natural areas and the top spots to return to for a birding walk to appreciate the region’s many resident and migratory birds. 90-minute tour begins and ends at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth.

A hidden treasure in the heart of Cape May The Colonial House (c.11730) was originally a tavern and the family home of Revolutionary War Patriot Memucan Hughes. The front room features a tavern room. Other rooms open to the public in this unsung sur vivor from Cape Island’s very beginning depict a colonial era cooking/eating room. A fine example of vernacular architecture and one of only a few remaining colonial homes open to the public in Cape May County. Colonial gardens designed by the Garden Club of Cape May surround the house.

Historic Haunts Combination Tour
Take an evening trolley ride through the Historic District and hear stories of haunted Cape May. Step off the trolley at the Physick House Museum with your guide and see select rooms of the Physick House Museum, reputed to be haunted, as you learn about Victorian Spiritualism. This tour combines a Ghosts of Cape May trolley tour with a visit to the Physick House. In the museum, guides will compare the methods of spirit contact used by the Victorians with those of today’s paranormal investigators. Select rooms on both floors are included in the tour.

Cherry House Haunting Tales Tour
The Cherry House, built in 1849 in the Federal style, is situated on one of Cape May’s oldest residential streets. It has been the subject of paranormal investigations and recordings of numerous unusual experiences. Home to Beth and Frank Acker along with their dog, Bella, the Ackers will relate the outcome of paranormal investigations at the house and the strange occurrences they’ve experienced on this guided tour of the first and second floors.

Are there particular properties you especially want to see? Put them in rank order! Check the web site as your tour approaches for a list of properties for each evening.
6. Parking, Starting Point. Parking is a challenge but here are some helpful hints: 1. Emlen Physick Estate. The lot fills by 5pm. 2. Cape May Elementary School on Lafayette Street. This is a city parking lot with limited spots that might be available in the evening. 3. Acme lot at Lafayette and Ocean Streets. This is a private paid parking lot. 4. Street parking on the east side of town near Angel of the Sea on Trenton Avenue: New Jersey Avenue to Cape May Avenue, Philadelphia to Pittsburgh Avenue. Beach Avenue. You can start to visit properties in any order. Please observe all parking and traffic regulations.
7. Restrooms are marked on your map. Check the web site closer to the date of
your tour!
8. Bring a Flashlight! A flashlight or your mobile device will illuminate the map as you walk and navigate.
9. Etiquette Inside. Please dispose of food and drinks prior to entering a property or trolley. Please ask permission before taking photographs inside properties.
10. The Colonial House Museum. Some people have trouble finding The Colonial House Museum at 653½ Washington St., and some nights it is included on the tour. It is tiny, not visible from the sidewalk and located directly behind The Hugh Boutique B&B, 653 Washington St. (City Hall is on your left). Face the inn and walk around the right along the parking lot.
11. Safety and Help Along the Way. The streets of Cape May are busy at this time of year. For your safety, and the safety of others, please observe the following: Stay Alert — Be Aware of automobile traffic around you — Cross the Streets at Intersections only — Walk on Sidewalks only — Do Not Walk in Roadways. If you need assistance during your tour, look for individuals with illuminated vests who can help direct you.
12. Consider a Holiday Lights Trolley Ride if Walking is Not Your Thing. The Christmas Candlelight House Tour is a selfguided walking tour within approximately a 3/4-mile-square area. If walking is a challenge for you, consider an alternative: the Holiday Lights Trolley Ride. These half-hour trolley rides will be running the same evenings and take you through the Historic District to see exterior holiday lights and decorations. We have an accessible trolley available with advance notice. Walkers or strollers are not permitted on board trolleys but may be stowed at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth where the Holiday Lights Trolley Rides depart. Take note: while we are adding more of these tours on these evenings, they tend to sell out quickly, so we suggest purchasing your tickets well in advance.

In this 12th year, Cape May MAC welcomes Dr. Craig L. Symonds to Cape May Convention Hall to present “The War Comes Home to America: U-boats off the Mid-Atlantic.” German U-boats made the mid-Atlantic one of the most dangerous places on earth in the first few months of 1942. The carnage they inflicted was out of proportion to their numbers and ships went down all along the coast from New York to Florida. How the United States dealt with this menace is one of the great stories of naval and U.S. history. Dr. Symonds taught history at the U.S. Naval Academy for 30 years and has earned numerous awards for his teaching and research. He is the author of 17 books translated into six languages and holds the Naval Historical Foundation Dudley Knox medal for lifetime achievement and the Pritzker Military Museum and Library Pritzker Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing. Tickets are limited. Advance reservations strongly recommended.
