Culture and creativity collide once again as Enlighten Festival returns from 3-19 March. See the nation’s capital in a dazzling new light when Illuminations @ Enlighten Festival, 3-13 March, lights up some of Canberra’s iconic buildings with stunning architectural projections. Sites include: Australian Parliament House; the National Library of Australia; the National Gallery of Australia; Questacon; the National Portrait Gallery; and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. 5 CANBERRA BALLOON SPECTACULAR
Early risers will be rewarded with a dawn skyline bejewelled by hot air balloons, with the annual Canberra Balloon Spectacular returning to the skies as part of the Enlighten Festival. Every morning from 11 to 19 March, hot air balloons will launch from Patrick White Lawns at around 7am (weather permitting), creating a visual spectacle of colour and movement across the city. There’s a hot breakfast for those who brave the early start, so set your alarms and send your eyes skyward. Overlooking Lake Burley Griffin, the museum explores Australian history and culture through Indigenous heritage, landscape, people and journeys that connect Australia with the world. LANYON HOMESTEAD
The homestead will be closed for conservation work from 6 March until 8 May, however the Lanyon Heritage Precinct (including outbuildings, gardens and café) remain open. Book in for a free tour of the precinct and learn more about the families who lived and worked at Lanyon Homestead from the 1850s to the early 20th century.
