Say Hello to Mr. Happy Man

Last time I checked, nowhere else in the world stands a statue of a man who is still alive today and daily spends the better part of his morning greeting passerby’s. Johnny Barnes, a Bermuda Native, can be found at the Foot of The Lane roundabout in Hamilton from approximately 3:45am – 10:00am every working day, rain or shine. He touches the hearts of everyone he meets and has made an impact on people all over the world who have only heard about his dedication to making others smile. I think it is safe to say that he is a very special man and we are lucky to know him. This month we challenge you to stop by and say hello to Johnny Barnes, if he isn’t there find his statue and wave with it as the traffic passes you by. This is a little piece of history you want to be apart of even if just in your own memory. May is a pretty big deal for Bermudians, it is Heritage Month, summer days play peeka-boo, locals start dipping their toes, feet, legs and eventually their entire bodies into the ocean. It is the month when business men start wearing colourful Bermuda shorts, the highly anticipated End to End walk/run takes place and let’s not forget Bermuda Day! Visit our Calendar of events; it is packed with all sorts of things to do this month. Our arts section features some very talented ladies including jewelry designer Alexandra Mosher and photographer Amanda Temple who we have to thank for our gorgeous cover photo.
