INTRO Introduction

The current portfolio includes a sampling of the academic work as well as some personal works. The presented academic projects were selected using a set of standards. The primary goal is to exhibit works that address themes in architecture and urban planning that have captured my interest throughout my academic career. As a consequence, the majority of projects that are being considered try to address issues with the urban environment and the city by designing buildings that, due to their size and multipurpose nature, have an impact on the urban environment. These projects aim to either improve conditions or, depending on the situation, to reduce problems. Each project aims to combine various and distinct functions to create poles that can change the urban framework. The weight of the workshops in the curriculum is still another selection criterion. Last but not least, all of the projects are works from the later stages of academic careers, have high credits, and were produced in partnership with highly respected academics who participated as mentors.
L’attuale portfolio include un campione del lavoro accademico e alcuni lavori personali. I progetti accademici presentati sono stati selezionati utilizzando una serie di standard. L’obiettivo principale è quello di esporre opere che affrontino temi dell’architettura e dell’urbanistica, che hanno catturato il mio interesse nel corso della mia carriera accademica. Di conseguenza, la maggior parte dei progetti considerati nello studio, tenta di affrontare le problematiche dell’ambiente urbano e della città, progettando edifici che, per le loro dimensioni e la natura polivalente, hanno un impatto sull’ambiente urbano. Questi progetti mirano sia a migliorare le condizioni che a ridurre i problemi. Ogni progetto mira a combinare funzioni diverse per creare poli che possano cambiare l’assetto urbano. Il peso dei laboratori nel curriculum è ancora un altro criterio. Ultimo, ma non meno importante, quasi tutti i progetti sono opere delle fasi successive della carriera accademica, e sono stati prodotti in collaborazione con tutor di tutto rispetto.

The Green River Thematic Studio / AY. 2021-22 / Politecnico di Milano Professors: L. Montedoro, A. Buoli, A. Frigerio The project is based in Morocco, a very unique country. The multifaceted city of Marrakesh faces numerous urban problems, and the scope of the studio was to address them and suggest solutions based on local peculiarities. The project’s location is distributed across four distinct quarters, posing a number of challenges in terms of mobility and integration between the numerous functions that occur nearby. The final proposal aimed to improve the network by connecting pedestrian and vehicular paths or streets. The final proposal includes a metropolitan park with different qualities, a train station, and a residential area.

Il progetto ha sede in Marocco, un paese davvero unico. La poliedrica città di Marrakech deve affrontare numerosi problemi urbani e l’obiettivo dello studio era quello di affrontare questi problemi e suggerire soluzioni che rispettino le peculiarità locali. La posizione del progetto è distribuita in quattro quartieri distinti, ponendo una serie di sfide in termini di mobilità e integrazione tra le numerose funzioni che si verificano nelle vicinanze. La proposta finale mirava a migliorare la rete collegando percorsi o strade pedonali e veicolari. La proposta finale comprende un parco metropolitano, una stazione ferroviaria e una zona residenziale.

The train station locates its platform system on the underground floor. This extends for a length of 200 meters and can be reached through a system of stairs, elevators, and a circular ramp that allows a continuous flow from the upper floors. La stazione ferroviaria colloca il suo sistema di binari al piano interrato. Questa si estende per una lunghezza di 200 metri ed è raggiungibile attraverso un sistema di scale, ascensori e una rampa circolare che permette un flusso continuo dai piani superiori.

Urban Oasis - Scalo Farini Regeneration Urban Design Studio / AY. 2020-21 / Politecnico di Milano Professors: L. Pogliani, M. Fior The urban regeneration concept started from the analysis of the context, which made evident key issues such as the character of the area, the surrounding uses, the mobility networks, and the ecological aspects. The study of the finalists’ projects of the competition led us to the regeneration of the urban void through the formation of a great green space that provides seamless integration with the urban fabric. The proposal incudes the creation of a new park across the two sides of the railway with a direct connection to three areas of built-up spaces, which accommodate the various functions of the general program.

Il concetto di rigenerazione urbana è partito dall’analisi del contesto, che ha messo in evidenza questioni importanti come il carattere dell’area, gli usi circostanti, le reti di mobilità e gli aspetti ecologici. Lo studio dei progetti finalisti del concorso ci ha portato alla rigenerazione del vuoto urbano attraverso la formazione di un grande spazio verde che si integra perfettamente con il tessuto urbano. La proposta prevede la realizzazione di un nuovo parco sui due lati della ferrovia con collegamento diretto a tre aree di spazi edificati, che accolgono le diverse funzioni del programma generale.

Student Residences - Rogoredo Regeneration Construction and Sustainability Studio / AY. 2020-21 / Politecnico di Milano Professors: D. Fanzini, G. Dall’O The project is situated southeast of Milan in a periurban zone. Four identical buildings, infrastructure for leisure activities, and green spaces were initially intended to be placed in an old railway yard as part of a sustainable design idea. In addition to the student residences, the final project includes study rooms, gyms, meeting rooms, libraries, auxiliary spaces, and underground parking for the convenience of the residents. Each volume is planned to have three stories and a roof with a photovoltaic system installed to collect solar energy for the structures’ needs. Around the site, there are additional cycling and pedestrian paths.

Il progetto è situato a sud-est di Milano, in una zona periurbana. Inizialmente quattro edifici identici, infrastrutture per il tempo libero e spazi verdi dovevano essere collocati in un vecchio scalo ferroviario come parte di un’idea di design sostenibile. Oltre alle residenze studentesche, il progetto definitivo prevede aule studio, palestre, sale riunioni, biblioteche, spazi ausiliari e parcheggi interrati per la comodità dei residenti. Ogni volume ha tre piani e un tetto con installato un impianto fotovoltaico per raccogliere l’energia solare per il fabbisogno delle strutture. Intorno al sito, ci sono ulteriori percorsi ciclopedonali.

Paraiki Patraiki Project Thesis project / AY. 2017-18 / University of Patras Professor: P. Koufopoulos The connection between the region and the city core is the major component of the design idea. Five buildings would be maintained, and the plot would be cleared of any other industrial building. The major goal is to break several obstacles that approach the area and link up movements that were blocked by the urban void left by the industrial area. Regarding the uses, the concept calls for the construction of hotels, offices, spaces for services, facilities for sports and culture, and other structures for leisure. The development of the coastline near the port could have favorable effects on the regeneration strategy.

Il collegamento tra la regione e il cuore della città è la componente principale dell’idea progettuale. Sarebbero stati mantenuti cinque edifici e il terreno sarebbe stato ripulito da qualsiasi altro edificio industriale. L’obiettivo principale è abbattere alcuni ostacoli in prossimità dell’area e collegare i movimenti che sono stati bloccati dal vuoto urbano lasciato dall’area industriale. Per quanto riguarda gli usi, il concept prevede la realizzazione di hotel, uffici, spazi per servizi, strutture per sport e cultura, e strutture per il tempo libero. Lo sviluppo della costa vicino al porto potrebbe avere effetti favorevoli sulla strategia di rigenerazione.

Patras Central Station Architectural Design Studio / AY. 2016-17 / University of Patras Professor: D. Giannisis The studio’s goal was to build a new train terminal that will serve as a focal point for the city and reestablish its link to other cities via a modern method of transportation such as the train. The project’s addition of a shopping center and a railroad museum is intended to create a new business, transportation, and cultural cluster that will help the city and the surrounding area thrive. The parallel sequence, which consists of parallel forms of varying heights and lengths, is the core concept of the design. This strategy refers to how a station’s piers and tracks are arranged so that they are placed parallel to one another.

L’obiettivo dello studio era costruire un nuovo terminal ferroviario, che servisse dal punto focale per la città e ristabilisse il suo collegamento con le altre città attraverso un moderno metodo di trasporto come il treno. L’aggiunta di un centro commerciale e di un museo ferroviario ha lo scopo di creare un nuovo polo commerciale, di trasporto e culturale che aiuterà la città e l’area circostante a prosperare. Il concetto centrale del progetto è la sequenza parallela, che consiste in forme parallele di diverse altezze e lunghezze. Questa strategia si riferisce al modo in cui i moli e i binari di una stazione sono disposti in modo che siano paralleli l’uno all’altro.

Live Below the ground - Elaionas Project Architectural Design Studio / AY. 2016-17 / University of Patras Professor: G. Aesopos The purpose of this studio was the design of a residential complex on a parcel of the area, as well as the connection of houses with the cultivation of the soil, the conversion of the agricultural goods and their sale. The main objective was the exploitation of a large plot of Elaionas for the construction of dwellings, industrial units, and market halls. The ultimate goal was to attract young people and families who will be working as farmers and living next to the farmland. This intends to form a cluster of production and residence, which can be a model for the development of the area through the exploitation of wasteland.

Lo scopo di questo studio è la progettazione di un complesso residenziale su un lotto dell’area, nonché il collegamento delle case con la coltivazione del suolo, la riconversione dei beni agricoli e la loro vendita. L’obiettivo principale è lo sfruttamento di un grande pezzo di Elaionas per la costruzione di abitazioni, unità industriali e mercati coperti. L’obiettivo finale è quello di attrarre giovani e famiglie che lavoreranno come agricoltori e vivranno vicino ai terreni agricoli. Questo intende formare un polo produttivo e abitativo, che possa essere un modello per lo sviluppo del territorio.

Patras Museum of Contemporary Art Architectural Design Studio / AY. 2015-16 / University of Patras Professor: A. Proimou The main aim was to analyze the needs of modern art exhibitions and build a place that attract locals and tourists. The goal was to construct a museum that could be reshaped according to the preferences of the artists. Visiting a museum should be an enjoyable experience that combines the observation of exhibits and relaxation in appropriate dining areas, so the design sought to integrate functions addressed to all ages and people of all the educational backgrounds. Offices, restaurants, auditorium, library, sanitary facilities are some of the functions enclosed in glass clusters, which allow a freer movement between them.

L’obiettivo principale era quello di analizzare le esigenze delle mostre d’arte moderna e costruire un luogo che attraesse locali e turisti. Lo scopo era costruire un museo che potesse essere rimodellato secondo le preferenze degli artisti. Visitare un museo dovrebbe essere un’esperienza piacevole che unisce l’osservazione dei reperti e il relax in aree da pranzo appropriate, quindi il design ha cercato di integrare funzioni rivolte a tutte le età e persone di ogni estrazione educativa. Uffici, auditorium, biblioteca, servizi igienici sono alcune delle funzioni racchiuse in grappoli di vetro, che consentono una più libera circolazione tra di loro.

Sea Through House - Villa in Mykonos Personal Project / Year 2020 Private Client The Sea through house is an effort to take advantage of the particular features of the surrounding natural environment, including the sea and the landscape, and is situated on the well-known Greek island of Mykonos. The home is positioned to take advantage of the stunning aegean sea view. The kitchen, dining room, library, and living room are all located in one large, free space on the ground floor. A bathroom, a storeroom, and a covered patio are also present. The rooms with private bathrooms and a large terrace are on the first level. A diagonal staircase located in the center of the house connects the two levels.

The Sea through house è un tentativo di sfruttare le caratteristiche particolari dell’ambiente naturale circostante, inclusi il mare e il paesaggio, ed è situato sulla famosa isola greca di Mykonos. La casa è posizionata in modo da sfruttare la splendida vista sul mare egeo. La cucina, la sala da pranzo, la biblioteca e il soggiorno si trovano tutti in un unico grande spazio libero al piano terra. Sono, inoltre, presenti un bagno, un ripostiglio e un patio coperto. Al primo livello si trovano le camere con bagno privato ed un ampio terrazzo. Una scala diagonale posta al centro dell’abitazione collega i due livelli.

Cafè Dot Personal Project / Year 2020 Private Client The proposal is a café that, at certain times of the day, also serves as a restaurant. The structure includes two levels and a covered outside patio. The bar, the kitchen, the storage areas, the client restrooms, and the main area for the tables are all located on the ground floor. The tables, a storeroom, and the restroom are on the first floor. In addition to the main staircase, there is a smaller one just for the personnel. Since just steel, wood, and glass were used for the final design, the structure is relatively light. The v-shaped roof, which is supported by wires that are fixed in the inclined steel columns, is the most distinctive feature.

La proposta è una caffetteria che, in determinati orari della giornata, funge anche da ristorante. La struttura comprende due livelli e un patio esterno coperto. Al piano terra si trovano il bar, la cucina, i ripostigli, i bagni per i clienti e la sala principale per i tavoli. I tavoli, un ripostiglio e il bagno si trovano al primo piano. Oltre alla scala principale, ce n’è una più piccola riservata al personale. Poiché per il progetto finale sono stati utilizzati solo acciaio, legno e vetro, la struttura è relativamente leggera. La caratteristica più distintiva è il tetto a forma di V, che è sostenuto da cavi fissati nelle colonne inclinate in acciaio.
