Ways to grow as a leader As a student, professional as business owner there is always a level of leadership that we have to grow in and this translates differently in many ways. Regardless of your position that in itself doesn’t make you a leader. It is imperative that we work on ourselves to become the leader we need to be. A good leader gets people to follow them, their efforts their mind. We strive to grow as leaders each day to have influence, increase productivity and then share with others. Are you looking to grow as a leader? This will help
Leading As leaders our starting point is always ourselves, we cannot lead others to a path we have never walked. Consistent and progressive self-development of growth is the never ending journey for true leaders. There is a couple of things we should do to be great leader:
Who you are Being authentic in the way that we express and stand on our beliefs. What are your beliefs, ethics and values? Build yourself to be the leader you desire to become. As a leader you seek to put others first and ensure quality experience when they deal with you You may be familiar with the iceberg principle “only one tenth of its mass shows above the surface of the water”, its true weight is hidden beneath the surface. A major lesson learned from the most talked about shipwreck in history, Captain Smith’s ship that sunk in 1912 better known to all of us as the titanic. What lies beneath the surface carries more power than what we see. It is therefore imperative that the nine-tenths is given priority in the process of selfdevelopment.
Connect with your team Connecting with people is the most important thing. Relationships with people are the foundations of leadership. Being a person people like and want to work with is.
Listen So developing people skills require us to listen well, Listen to the needs of people or customers around you, in provision of solutions you will find the ability to lead effectively and grow as a leader. The more you listen, the more you understand people’s needs and are better positioned to be the solution.
Look Observe what people do, be conscious about where your people are and what they are doing. Take cues from body languages and nuances that you can be able to pick from the people you lead. This will help you to bring out the best

Learn Learn from the people. One does not know all, regardless of your experiences, knowledge, education a key thing to always remember is we can always learn something from the person next to us. Leaders have to acknowledge that fact and be open to learning
Serve Develop the mindset and heart for servitude. One cannot expect to lead without learning to serve and having the mindset, the attitude of serving. All great leaders throughout history were also well known for their heart of servitude
Produce Leaders are not full of excuses but simply produce results and thereby becoming an example of effectiveness – we attract who we are and not who we want. Therefore good leaders are productive and end up with productive teams all together. This makes a leader more effective, they lead by example and not just speak. People do as people see not as people say. Take the journey first and take people where you have been, this makes you such an effective leader and therefore you begin to attract who you are. Leaders develop others Learning and developing ourselves enough to be able to pass that knowledge, success is being able to find and develop your strength not simple for yourself but to share with the next. More importantly if you listen well and observe the people you lead you will be able to The cycle of learn do teach is
Identify what others are good at Discover what other people are good at and begin to develop train them. To reproduce you need to be it first. Observe, in order to position them correctly.
Provide resource As you encourage and help others, develop others and encourage them and grow them in that field, you must continue to provide resources that help them grow. The qualities and value you have learnt used and become is what you pass on
Leaders keep the pace Choosing persistence. Having the habit of trying and trying again, changing learning and never quitting. If your goals and ideas deserve one thing is that you don’t give upon them. John Quincy Adams said “Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.”
