la maison de verre // hand draft project first year studio [graphite drawing on 24 x 36 stonehenge paper]
whats most appealing about la maison de verre is the glass facade that hides, yet hints very dimly at the beautiful and mysterious interior of the building. the axon begins to study the relationship between the view from the outside - in, and vice versa.
analytical axonometric drawing
a huge miestake first year studio [partners: james gililand, abhinav jain, david knaide] crown hall, IIT campus, mies van der rohe [woodworking +plastic molding + rhino3d + photoshop + illustrator]
an austere perspective on mies van der rohe’s crown hall, understanding the vertical / horizontal planes meeting as a collision.
intervention of the strict horizontal and vertical planes of mies, decoding the horizontal planes of the floor and entrance meeting the vast vertical glass facade of crown hall as a collision of planes, hence the “broken facade. the frosted treatment, designed with the fibonacci sequence, is a matter of privacy, where the glass is clearer near the entrance and lower levels, and more opaque throughout the building to offer privacy to the students within the building.

armory square recording studio // bike shop first year studio [rhino3d + emergency room + photoshop + illustrator]
armory square is commonly referred to as, “the egg, as the square is in fact, an oval shaped interference to the city grid. shaped by the railroad tracks, and the creek running through the city, armory square is historically and scenically important to the city of syracuse.
surrounding grids + interferences + major roads
split building with shape of the armory (the egg), which is very unique to city grid of Syracuse for two different programs
continuing the pathway that is created through to the building to create a cantilevered shelter space
flatten top of ampitheater to mimick flat top of all surrounding buildings
pushing down roof to create gentle slope / ampitheater
use free space to replace lack of urban pocket / public space in armory square
rotate roof layout to provide views for audience and face street
