OUR
Story (Left to right: Kara, Angela and Lindsay)
The three of us have been best friends since a road trip after college took us across the country from New York City to Portland, OR. We still laugh about our beat-up Jeep overheating in Death Valley, the incessant stops for soda and chic-o-sticks and our misadventures in Mississippi! Luckily, we all eventually moved to beautiful Colorado! The three of us have since traveled together internationally and visited 47 countries individually from Cambodia to Argentina and India to Ireland. With each trip to a developing country we were struck by the people. We remember the little girl in Cambodia who walked through the open sewer without batting an eye while begging for grape soda; we remember the children in Sapa, Vietnam who frantically adorned us with bracelets and then smiled to request payment and of course the countless families living on the highway medians in Mumbai, India. Each trip sparked the conversation: “What can we do?” Threads is our answer. We created Threads Worldwide as a way to provide a market and income to skilled artisans who would otherwise be limited in their potential. We source handcrafted products from around the world that we love for their quality and style, regardless of their story – and, each piece has an amazing story! We wanted to provide a scalable way to make a difference so developed a social selling model where women in the US can make a difference while making money. By becoming a Threads Sales Consultant (TSC) or hosting a Threads Party, you are contributing to the growth of a community across the globe. You are providing a family the means to send all their children to school, to stay in their rural villages or to simply feed themselves. Thank you for looking, thank you for buying – it makes a difference.

MADE WITH HEART IN
AFRICA
Some of our artisans are women who have been ostracized from their villages because they are HIV+. They are shunned to the lake district in the mountains of Ethiopia with the futile hope that the water there will cure them of their disease. Most turn to begging, but some are lucky enough to find a group that teaches them to make jewelry from recycled metals found on the ground including bullet casings. Together we are providing these women not only an opportunity to earn an income, but also a purpose and supportive community!
26
MADE WITH HEART IN
CENTRAL & SOUTH AMERICA Before women in Guatemala had this opportunity to create an incomegenerating business in their homes, they were isolated and looked at with little respect. Now these women work together to create beautifully handcrafted jewelry and train other women in their community to do the same. They are now connected, respected in their communities and supported in pursuing their dreams.
27
Several groups in India provide women from lower social castes the opportunity of economic advancement and social mobility--two phenomena that are rare in India. Women move from a life destined to selling fish on the side of they road to designing and making fashionable jewelry. They find themselves to be valuable contributions to their cooperative and community. Providing women at poverty level opportunities for consistent income protects their children from trafficking and abuse by keeping them in school. Together we are combating child labor at its roots!

MADE WITH HEART IN
ASIA
Several of our Artisan Partners throughout Asia are women rescued from sex trafficking. They are taught a trade which provides sustainable income and prevents re-exploitation. Without the alternative source of income handmaking wallets and jewelry, many of the women would be forced to return to the sex trade industry to support their families. Together we are ensuring these women are provided healthy alternatives, childcare and additional educational opportunities!
