ABOUT ME
As a child of the bayou, I remember trekking through the mud alongside the cypresses and weeping willows. The musky smell of the swamp still lingers in the back of my mind, as I recall the eerie sensation of the wind dropping, the air cooling and time dissipating into a still quietness. The forest, its trees and the space between was my home. My love and respect for nature is my obsession and passion. I enjoy backpacking, camping, hiking, rock climbing, swimming, and fishing…anything and everything that allows me to explore the wilderness! My background is in Landscape Architecture, specializing in zoological institutions, which included everything from animal habitats to visitor spaces and amenities. As a designer I strive to be a steward of the environment and to create spaces that inspire, educate and instill a sense of responsibility in all to protect and preserve nature. In my spare time, I volunteer for various non-profits such as the Sierra Club, Bolsa Chica Land Trust, and CCCMB where we build and repair trails, manage vegetation and natural habitats.
I am also a passionate Mixed Martial Artist, who is trained in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling. AT IMy V ElifeSgoal I T EasPaLhuman A N being, is to not only be self-sustaining and one with nature, but to be able to kick some ass – if needed.

“Primate Forest” is located at the Santa Ana Zoo in California. The intent of this project was to provide Pre-Schematic Design services. The goal was to create a dynamic, active and flexible forest habitat zone focusing on primates. Key program elements included overhead primate trails, keeper-animal demonstration areas, kid’s adventure play zones and redeveloped service building and facilities for staff.

“Five Feet High and Rising” is my senior capstone project, proposing a multi-layered development in a blighted neighborhood in New Orleans. Little Woods, like many other neighborhoods experienced catastrophic flooding due to Hurricane Katrina and struggled to recover. This project focuses on relocating the neighborhood, restoring wetland habitats, redeveloping the historic and cultural landscape, as well as provide an area for innovative studies on flood management & prevention.

Approximately 42.0% of Little Woods’ population lives in a low income household of less than $25,000. This is a high percentage of low income households for New Orleans. The second most common income level is lower middle class with 28.4% of Little Woods’ residents WITH INCOMES between $25,000 and $50,000.

THE HINTERLANDS CAMP This studio entitled, “Future City: Ecology + Nature + Habitat” focused on present day issues of sustainable cities, ecosystem services, resilience, creativity and community. This project was located within the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, CA. It aims to investigate, comprehend, represent and analyze ecological and human infrastructural systems.

NARRATIVE
FRAMEWORK PLAN
“ The Blasted Lands” bears this name for a reason: the area was twisted by a dark force that beckons all who dares to answer. The community of San Pedro will awaken to a fury of unforgettable experiences, if they live to tell...trek through the portals and you will find that these wretched lands are inhabitable for those seeking a new adventure...And those with teeming curiosity, can you survive the blasted lands for a single night?
RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT GREEN SPACE WATER FILTRATION COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
DESIGN The design focuses on improving site access, enhancing the quality of life and creating a unique identity/ experience in San Pedro. The Blasted Lands consist of a series of different areas that are easily accessible by both vehicles and pedestrians. There are a network of roads that travel throughout each area and there is a boardwalk | hiking trail that circulates the site as well. The Isle Apartments and the Pass Promenade are aspects that seek to improve the quality of life within the area. With these is the introduction of new affordable housing minutes away from everything that one needs
“Pass” Promenade
to sustain a livable and lively life. The rest of the site: the Hinterlands, the Barrens, and Hellfire Peninsula are the main components of the Blasted Lands. It is different from every other park in San Pedro and presents an opportunity to bring the community together in a unique way.

This studio explored the linked subjects of wine making and place making. This project investigated the Central Coast’s wine industry and the wine country experience. Located in Paso Robles, the Barton Family has asked us to develop a master plan to re-envision their business, Grey Wolf Cellars by creating a design vision and programming a qualitative experience.
A FUNKY SPACE REINCARNATED
21
ORIGINS OF THE GREY WOLF Based on Native American Mythology, there once was a man known as Ma’una, the Earth Maker. He created the plants, animals and finally “the two-legged walkers”. Of the animals lived the Grey Wolf, whom was the last wolf to be left on earth as the others faded into the spiritual world. The Grey Wolf was given the title and role as the protector and guardian of humanity.
REINCARNATION Assuming the role of the Grey Wolf, the Barton family is seen as those who have been reincarnated to provide for the good and happiness of the humans that enter upon their grounds. To further understand the needs of humanity, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs was adopted as a concept and design inspiration.
DESIGN The design consists of a series of triangles and polygons that focuses on satisfying the first three levels of needs: physiological, safety and love. Grey Wolf Winery provides for the physiological demands with its delicious wine and expansive fields of produce. Each space within the design is surrounded and enclosed by either low stonewalls, or vegetated areas creating a feeling of protectiveness. By doing this each space is experienced with intimacy between the users and visitors. The overall design hopes to bring people together in ways that allows for the harvesting of happiness.

This map contains the vegetative areas that are suitable for kit fox habitat. Scrub and deciduous forest were selected by attribute from the data file of San Luis Obispo’s land cover. This map is also showing areas of loose and sandy soils, in which kit foxes need. They are a species that burrow underground to build their dens. These aspects of soil were selected by soil type and drainage grade through the select by attributes feature. Additionally, zoning was taken into consideration. Individual parcels of urban development, agricultural lands and residential was selected to indicate areas to avoid.
This map highlights the differing slopes within San Luis Obispo County. The kit foxes prefer to trek on terrain that is no steeper than 5%. Utilizing the DEM file and going through the Spatial Analyst tools, I was able to map out the slopes, but also define the values I was specifically looking for. The yellow patches was the resulting areas from an intersection between the layers in the previous map. These locations are areas within the suitable vegetative habitat with the correct soil types. These areas are also outside of urban development, agricultural lands and residential tracks.
? QņQSE$S ˍ+E@U GIS MAP PROGRESSIONS
This map takes the selected suitable areas and correlates it with major highways and roads, along with defining areas of adequate size for a healthy and promising kit fox sanctuary. The areas in orange are within a half mile from the highway providing a decent amount of distance to prevent vehicular accidents, but also not too far from the road, since a lot of kit foxes like to build their dens under the roads in drainage pipes and such. The final condition was sizing of the habitat. I decided that 100 Acres was adequate to provide a sanctuary for the kit foxes along with developing a natural park for educational purposes. These areas are highlighted in pink.
PART OF A FEASIBILITY STUDY TO SEEK POTENTIAL HABITAT FOR THE SAN JOAQUIN KIT FOX WITHIN SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY. HABITAT CONDITIONS, SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS TO ROADS AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND OTHER HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED AND @ GIS ANALYZED THROUGH THE USE OF DATA COLLECTION AND GIS.
