Coi Village The village is located in the scope of Xuan Son Natural Conservation of Phu Tho province. The location is far about 120 kilometers from Hanoi capital and an area of Limestone Mountains in the North of Vietnam with lots of endangered flora and fauna in the Red Book. Characterized with Dao people’s culture, the village is famous for a unique language, customs and festivals. Experiencing in Coi Village – Xuan Son Natural Conservation, you can have a chance to enjoy picturesque sights of forest, natural world and villages as well as taste various local foods.

Day 1: Hanoi – Phu Tho 06:15 Pick up at 110 Thai Thinh St., Dong Da District, Hanoi. PROJECT OVERVIEW The Responsible Travel for “Education and Community Development” in Coi Village, Xuan Son National Park is a program belonging to the project “Maintaining the Dao People’s Cultural Identity and Promoting Community Tourism in Coi Village” by Volunteer for Education Organization (V.E.O.). The program draws the participation of many Vietnamese experts as well as local and international volunteers. We aim to build and support a firm background for sustainable development of the Dao people whose living conditions remain poor and difficult in Coi Village Volunteers taking part in the program will have a chance to experience the traditions and culture of the Dao people in the North-West Highlands. The village is surrounded with the beauty of nature and the mountains of Xuan Son National Park.The program aims to promote a healthy culture exchange while keeping the Dao people’s traditional identity. Furthermore, volunteers will contribute to teaching, training, and developing the community tourism service in Coi Village. Because Coi Village possesses the ideal condition to develop community sustainable development of the locals, while preserving the village’s unique culture tourism. It is an opportunity for their ethnic minorities to bring in a lot of economic benefits for the sustainable development of the locals, while preserving the village’s unique culture.
ACTIVITIES
Joining in the project, volunteers will work to support the ethnic minorities in Coi Village by facilitating Basic English classes as well as Forest Protection and Life Skills lessons, interspersed with songs and games for the children, for approximately 4-6 hours per day. Volunteers will also take part in teaching the class “Decreasing Illiteracy” for the disadvantaged Dao women. Volunteers may also spend some time enjoying the beauty of Coi Village and Xuan National Park by trekking through the surrounding cave, lake, and palm forest. You will also have time to experience the locals’ way of life and interact with them while giving them ideas to improve their life skills and bring more opportunities for a better life. - Participate in teaching basic life skills and forest protection to primary school students - Take part in teaching basic English communication skills to the locals - Help in the renovation and repair of household facilities under the project “Developing Community Tourism” - Participate in facilitating classes under the project “Decreasing Illiteracy” for the disadvantaged women of Coi Village - Establish and implement marketing network for Community Tourism in Coi Village - Experience the traditional life and culture of the Dao people - Enjoy the natural beauty of the Highlands through outdoor activities such as climbing, trekking, etc.
During the weekend, volunteers can trek around the village to enjoy the imposing beauty of the mountains in the Xuan Son National Park. Visiting around the village and exploring the Dao people’s customs is also ideal for learning more about the ethnic minorities’ diverse culture.
Volunteers will be accommodated in a homestay with a local family, in a large room that can hold 20 volunteers. Should you require a private room, please inform us 1 month before the trip. Toilet and bath, and bed with soft blankets, sheets, pillows, and mattresses are available in the homestay. The accommodation fee costs 7$ per day and will go directly to the host family.

Charaterized by the Dao people’s culture, the village is famous for its unique language, customs, and festivals. Exploring Coi Village, you will have the chance to enjoy the picturesque sights of the lush forestry, as well as the quaint village. You can take part in some local activities such as harvesting crops, weaving, cooking and tasting Dao food, etc. Because of the warm and rustic way of living of the people here, volunteers who come to the village for the first time often become friends with the locals.
