THW DESIGN

“We have a passion for connecting people with the natural surroundings while shaping and forming “Outdoor Rooms” that create memorable moments no matter what age you are. As Landscape Architects, we blend the elements of nature with the built environment to create sustainable living spaces.”

Philosophy • Strive to deliver exceptional, well planned, livable communities. • Mission: maximize the utilization of the land while protecting the living ecology. We achieve this by integrating the natural environment into the built seamlessly as we create opportunities for the residents to become vital members of their community. By understanding the site’s characteristics and limitations, THW Land Planning implements the vision of our clients where the architecture and land become one. As Landscape Architects, we understand that our palette includes the landscape, the environment surrounding it, and the people who interact with it. We are dedicated to social and environmental responsibility, both locally and globally and strive to

“draw people together.”

Values • THW Design, we pride ourselves on our legacy: commitment to optimum health and vitality. Without the experience and expertise of our Land Planning department, we would not have the necessary tools to deliver the high quality product for which we have become known. Through innovative software utilization, environmentally conscious design, and tactical master planning, our Land Planners lead the way in the implementation of our efforts to create a sense of community and healthy environments. Our Land Planning department works hand in hand with our Architecture and Interior Design departments to ensure we consider the width and breadth of the opportunities afforded by your existing community and its environs. We work closely with civil engineers and all other disciplines to provide creative, technically appropriate, cost effective, and environmentally responsible designs.

Overview “The master plan is the canvas by which the architecture is brought to life, and together, reinforces order and scale. We have a passion for connecting people with the natural surroundings while shaping and forming outdoor rooms that create memorable moments no matter what age you are. As Landscape Architects, we blend the elements of nature with the built environment to create sustainable living spaces. We study the site, taking into account natural elements such as sound, light, shade, wind, texture, form, and balance.

Landscape Architecture Added Value for your Community: The THOUGHT PROCESS • Placement of architecture must not be forced but blended with the natural elements • Anticipate, utilize, and enhance the built environment in harmony with nature • Create memorable outdoor rooms for social engagement The DESIGN PROCESS Thoughtful community planning & Landscape Architecture utilizes: • Green space • Appropriate separation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic • Formal and informal gathering spaces • Use of energy centers to promote active lifestyles and a sense of well being. Planning The Master Plan A carefully developed master plan sets the stage for a community’s long term growth. It considers future capital improvements, challenges and opportunities to create solutions, maintenance issues, and the overall aesthetics of the community. Although it is a conceptual process, we at THW Design approach the development of the master plan seeking real world solutions.

Site Analysis

Planning is a problem solving process in which we use and create various maps to gather information as well as document information. Essentially, plans are an executive summary of an aggregate of decisions made towards a projected outcome in graphic form.

Our Process • Assist the client to better understand possibilities and limitations of site • Research and study components of the site • Sift through the layers of qualitative information • Identify the opportunities and constraints • Design a comprehensive master plan

The downfall of many master plans is their propensity for calling for the demolition or relocation of recently installed utilities or other infrastructure. In our planning efforts, we strive to minimize these unnecessary costs and make smart decisions for growth. Survey and Site Analysis: • • • • • • •

Boundaries Topography Soil characteristics Significant trees Open spaces and their relationship to the site Waterways Utilities, overhead and underground

• • • • •

Flood plains Rights-of-way and easements Buffers, building and landscape setbacks Zoning regulations Traffic studies, regional comprehensive plans and local community culture • Financial studies: future development, cost of living or investment in design and budget analysis for phase installation

Presentation: • Studies • Research • Design items • Rendered master plans or site plans • 3d Modeling of designed site • 2D visual presentations with our research • Examples of similar design ideas

THW participates in a continuous design review throughout the design stages and becomes equipped in recognizing critical milestones in an integrated design process.
