CHRIS JERICHO TO BE INSERTED INTO ‘HELL IN A CELL’ MATCH?
SPORTS
Chris Jericho has to be seen as the most entertaining superstar on the WWE roster currently, his surprising alliance with Kevin Owens has become a huge hit with the WWE fans, but it seems WWE have plans to break up the budding ‘bromance.’ Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens are already set to collide inside Hell in a Cell in just less than two weeks time and last week on Raw, Jericho lost his opportunity to be a part of the match when he was pinned by Rollins in one-on-one competition. Stephanie McMahon had made the stipulation that if Jericho had managed to defeat the former World Champion then he could have been added to the match and it would have become a triple threat for the Universal Championship, Jericho was unable to make it happen and instead received a pedigree from the former Shield member as his best friend watched at ringside. This week’s Raw played on the tension between the self-proclaimed best friends as Rollins teased the fact that Jericho couldn’t win with Owens by his side, so Mick
Foley agreed to a rematch between Jericho and Rollins and once again it was The Architect who picked up the win despite the distraction from Owens mid-way through the match. Jericho and Owens then collided backstage as the former Undisputed Champion almost called Owens a ‘stupid idiot’ but luckily Stephanie stepped in and reminded them that they were playing straight into Rollins’ hands by falling out like this. It seems that the plan was always to have Chris Jericho in the match at Hell in a Cell since it could be one of his last in the company for a few months because he’s going back on tour with his band Fozzy. Although, the match itself was never supposed to be inside the steel structure, but when two other undercard matches were announced for inside Hell in a Cell, it was thought that WWE had to put the main event inside the steel as well so that nothing was taken away from the spectacle. For some unknown reason, when the structure was announced to be part of the match Jericho was then taken out of the equation and that’s why he lost his match against Seth Rollins last week. But WWE still want the entertaining superstar to be a part of the match but as the special guest referee. This could then lead to a match between Jericho and Owens perhaps at Survivor Series because it is thought that Triple H will come back to cost Rollins his chance at the Universal Championship once again. It is not yet known how WWE will spin this, but having both Jericho and Owens against him in this match would put Rollins over as a much bigger face and set Owens up for a decent rivalry if Rollins and Triple H begins to gain speed. Jericho’s tour with Fozzy doesn’t officially begin until 2017 so WWE can keep Jericho on TV until the end of the year and hopefully make use of how popular he has become over the past few months. Fans won’t be happy that the bond between Owens and Jericho looks set to be severed after what has been an incredible two months for the duo. As a special guest referee, Jericho would be responsible for calling the match down the middle and it’s unlikely that he will do this given his recent issues with Rollins. Or Jericho could call it down the middle and so cause a problem between himself and Owens and that will be how WWE manage to create a storyline between Jericho and his friend.
It would be a main event level feud as well since there are currently no plans for Rollins to win the Universal Championship because his feud with WWE COO Triple H doesn’t need the title to be a main event contender. It will be interesting to see how WWE inserts Jericho into this match, given that Rollins was recently injured it was thought that Jericho would be added to take some pressure away from Seth, but now WWE must have decided that Seth is back in peak fighting condition and there’s no need to protect him anymore.
