Festival guide Art • Drama • Music • Fashion • Fun

Welcome For many years Sacred Heart has developed a reputation for excellence in the arts with our drama and music shows, and our annual art exhibition.

During the festival we will also have a series of speakers from our community visiting the school to talk about their careers and answer questions.

The Heart of Crosby festival over 12 days (4th July - 15th July) is a celebration of our students’ talents, and also a way of inspiring our young people as they step towards adult life.

You can follow the latest news about the Heart of Crosby festival via our Twitter and also a special blog: heartofcrosbyfestival.wordpress.com

This booklet gives you a flavour of what’s on offer for our students, pupils from other schools and also the public.

Heart of glass Glass artist Julie Langan is busy working on a majestic piece of stained glass to mark the Heart of Crosby festival.

Each panel represents our local primary schools and parishes and sends the message that when we unite, we create the ‘Heart of Crosby.’

The colourful artwork symbolises the community that surrounds Sacred Heart - the people and places that we embrace.

Julie, from Cedar Galleries, near Ormskirk, also made the glass art that adorns the reception of our new Sixth Form Centre.

Musical maestros As part of the festival, our talented musicians will be putting on an array of performances and workshops. Here’s a rundown of the musical events: Tuesday 5th July - we will have our Singing Sherlock performance, where Sacred Heart’s Y7 students join forces with our three partner schools to present a vocal concert under the leadership of Stuart Overington, vocal animateur for Sefton Music Hub. Thursday 7th July - we will have two concerts taking place celebrating the musical talents of past and present Sacred Heart pupils - see p3.

Friday 8th July - our Sixth Form musicians will be assisting with an afternoon of African drumming workshops for Year 4 pupils, visiting from Waterloo Primary School. Wednesday 13th July - our Sixth Form musicians will be assisting with African Drumming workshops for pupils of St Edmund’s and St Thomas’ Primary. Thursday 14th July - Clubbercise, a chance to dance your way to fitness. There is certainly a lot of musical talent here at Sacred Heart and we are very much looking forward to celebrating this with our visiting primaries and the public.
