We start off every meal at Ichiban with spicy shrimp and California sushi rolls which are made fresh to order at the sushi bar. Their large sushi menu offers something for everyone and with daily specials a great value is always available. There are many hibachi grills in the restaurant and a seat there always promises a great show. You can choose to dine at the hibachi grill or at a booth or table and hibachi menu items are available no matter your table preference. Kitchen specialties can be ordered from the menu and are served piping hot on iron skillets. Our family generally orders from both the hibachi and kitchen menus and sometimes shares an appetizer. This week we tried the shrimp dumplings appetizer and they were hot, tender and packed with flavor.

Historical Tidbit: Bay Minette Bay Minette is a beautiful city located 35 miles northeast of Mobile; 45 miles west of Pensacola, Florida, and 75 miles east of Biloxi, Mississippi. Bay Minette got its name from nearby Minette Bay, named for a French surveyor named Minet.

Settlement in Bay Minette began in 1861 when the Louisville & Nashville (L&N) Railroad reached the area, and the town became a junction for the L&N. People have always been attracted to this city because of its location. It is surrounded by forests, and is located near the Tensaw River Delta and the Gulf of Mexico. Bay Minette is the most centrally located township in Baldwin County. In 1900, the Alabama State Legislature officially named Bay Minette the county seat, and on October 1, 1901, Bay Minette town leaders officially dedicated a courthouse in the town. The city of Daphne resisted its loss of status, however, and refused to surrender the powers of government.

The historic North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce building is a former L&N train depot. An old L&N Caboose 114 is on display right outside the building. Bay Minette is a wonderful and beautiful place to visit or to call home.
In order to move the county records to Bay Minette, town leaders devised a scheme to lure the sheriff and his deputy out of Daphne with a false story about a murder. While the law officers were pursuing the fictitious killer, a group of Bay Minette men stealthily traveled the 30 miles to Daphne, stole the Baldwin County Courthouse records, and delivered them to the new courthouse in Bay Minette. Thus, the town was established as the Baldwin County seat. It was finally incorporated in 1907. It is cur-

A PARABLE: SOMETIMES I MAKE MYSELF SICK I was dressed in my nicest suit and driving on the way to church Sunday as I sped past a scruffy old woman walking beside the road. With her was a homely and sad looking little boy. For just a moment I felt something strange, but I was expected to be on time, and I was running a little late. I go to church regularly, and sing in the choir, too. I want people to know how much I really love God. A big sticker on my car has the shape of a fish. I’m set to tell the world that I’m a Christian. Hey, you should see my new Bible! It has great notes in it to help me understand the original meaning of the words of Scripture. And I’ve got lots of other Christian books, and several Christian tee-shirts. People will be able to tell that I am a spiritual person. And, I hate to brag, but you should have heard the prayer I prayed in church last week. Everybody was shouting, “Amen!” Furthermore, there are magnetic Bible verses on my refrigerator, there is Christian music playing in my car, and I have a WWJD bracelet. Even my license plate says “ ILVJSUS”. I’m sure that a lot of people have read that tag and know that I am “a child of the King!” So I was talking to Jesus about all of these great things I had done for him, and about the bold stand that I had taken. It was about then that I noticed that he started to cry. For a moment I thought to myself that I really had done great, and that
he was just so overwhelmed and blessed by my devotion to him! But then I heard him say that I had done... nothing. His voice seemed to break when he said the word, “nothing”. Stunned, I asked him, “What, then, do you have in mind that I should do?” Immediately I wished that I hadn’t asked that question. I was expecting to hear some high-sounding religious inspirational answer. His response turned out to be just the opposite. As best I can explain to you, here is what he had to say: “There is a man in prison who needs a friend. Visit him and encourage him. He did wrong, but he is so sorry about it, and so afraid. Many people who think they are better are putting him down now. He must have a friend who will believe in him so he will not give up. “There is a family waiting for him and they have no warm clothes. You have plenty. Give them some of your best clothes. Let your children give some of their best clothes to his children. “There is a man on the street who has no food and no home. He has a name. Learn his name and look him in the eye and gently call him by name. Then give him food, or take him home with you and let him eat from your table. Do not mention my name until you have done at least that much. “There is a child who is very sick. Visit her, and see that she gets good medical care. Give her kind words, lots of hugs, and pray with her. Even if you have to sell your tee shirts, your music and your Bible, make sure that she has the medicine that she needs.”

“But Lord...” I began to protest. But he asked me not to call him “Lord” unless I was ready to do what he said. The rest of the day passed very slowly. Curling up in a warm recliner, I tried to ponder some of these things. I remembered his saying that whatever we did for “the least of these” was what we had done for Him. I asked myself how many times my religion had consisted of fitting into a Christian subculture rather than helping the hurting. I asked myself whether our sermons and songs were meaningless unless accompanied by some kind of action. I thought of all the times I had enjoyed a “great service” in church when nobody was really served. Thinking of my fine home and my fine clothes that I wear when I drive my fine car to my fine church building, something strange occurred to me: Could it be that the real Jesus I was looking for might better have been found in that scruffy old woman and that sad little boy that I just drove past? Was I was so “religious” that I missed Him? Today, finally, I took the first step of genuine faith, obedience, and integrity: I removed the bumper sticker.

Do not disturb, endless retreat in progress... www.WolfBayCondo.com Foley, AL 251.421.1965
When we worry, we are not trusting God in that particular area. He tells us in his word to cast our cares upon him for he cares for us. Worry will rob you of your joy and is not of God. The following is a poem I once read: Worry never climbed a hill, worry never paid a bill. Worry never dried a tear, worry never calmed a fear. Worry never darned a heel, worry never cooked a meal. Worry never led a horse to water, worry never did a thing you think it oughta. But this is what worry will do. It will rob you of your strength, rob you of your joy, drag you down causing depression and oppression of the enemy. Then fear comes in which causes torment, anguish bringing with it hate, followed by strife. See, the enemy works in a subtle way. If he can cause you to give in to one one form of negativity, it’s easier to give in to others. God wants us to totally trust him for as his word says, he works everything out for good who love him and are called according to his purpose.
A Note From the Editor During a whirlwind of errands this week the kids and I found a few minutes to go to Incredible Candies in Gulf Shores. My son’s eyes widened as he realized the shop had almost every flavor of jellybeans made by Jelly Belly. We had a great time selecting flavors and filling our bags. I chose my absolute favorite flavor, Juicy Pear, and my son selected about twenty different flavors for his bag. I was sure the bag of candy wouldn’t last long, and a

few days later my son’s friend rode his bike over for an afternoon visit. I was in the other room folding laundry when I realized I could hear talk of jellybean flavors followed by loud giggles. I peeked into the room to find my son, his friend, my daughter and our dog sitting in a circle enjoying the many flavors in the Jelly Belly bag. I couldn’t help but smile in delight that three kids and a dog could still find total bliss in a bag of jellybeans.

Alabama Gulf Coast Christian Academy was founded in 2006 with 21 students but is quickly approaching 100 students in grades PK3 – 12 for the 2012-2013 school year. While there are waiting lists for certain grade levels, there is still room for new students in most of our classes. If you would like your child to receive their education in a close knit, friendly, family type atmosphere where God’s word is taught and emphasized in every subject, then AGCCA may be the place for you. Located in a quiet country setting at the corner of county roads 28 and 71 in Summerdale, AL, the school boasts of a quality Christian education in a family atmosphere. We strive to teach the whole child and instill a faith in God that the student will have with them long after graduation. Our theme for next school year is “Serving in HIS steps” taken from John 12:26. We have daily Bible classes and daily chapel services that will emphasize the idea of serving God. Additionally, this summer AGCCA had a school mission trip to Costa Rica where teachers and students were able to serve others in a foreign context for 10 days. At AGCCA we want to impress on our students that we have opportunities every day to serve God and serve others in His kingdom. In addition to serving God, we have also been earnestly working to prepare for the school accreditation process. We are excited to host our on site visit for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the National Christian Schools Association during April of the 2012-2013 school year. We feel that this accreditation will serve to further validate the excellent education that our students already receive each year. To coincide with SACS accreditation, we have also added a mobile computer lab to our school. We have purchased a classroom set of laptops and plan to use the school’s existing Wi-Fi service to bring the computer lab to our classrooms. We have also hired a certified Art teacher to our staff for the 2012-2013 school year to further serve the needs and talents of our student body. We would like to invite you to stop by our school one day and see the Smart Boards that are in every classroom in action, and say hello to our family of students and teachers. Please visit our website at www. gccacademy.org or call our office at (251)9892333 for further information about how your child could benefit from a quality Christian education.
Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
