In the spring of 1941, Finland began to recruit volunteers to serve in the German Waffen-SS. After the perils of the Winter War of 1939–40, the Finnish government and the military high command wanted support against the continuing existential threat posed by the Soviet Union. This report has gone through the actions of the Finnish volunteers have been followed where possible on a daily basis. Detailed examination of archive documents has permitted an image of what the Finns knew about the violent acts in Ukraine and the Caucasus, how they responded to them, and ultimately what was the Finns’ role in the atrocities. One possible methodological approach to studying collective identity has been presented as examining the actions of a group from a holistic perspective. This book is devoted to the publication of materials obtained during archaeological excavations of the burial ground of Kalmistomäki in Kylälahti in the north-western Ladoga region in 2006–2009. The site may be described as a cemetery attached to a Karelian pogost centre at the north-western periphery of the medieval Novgorod Land. It was used by a population that was obviously very wealthy and had lively contacts with outside areas in different directions. This volume centers on selected readings of Neo-Latin dissertations, satires and other texts written during the period between 1500 and 1800. XVI) Como su título indica, la publicación es el resultado de una investigación sobre la lengua de los moriscos valencianos a través de un valioso manuscrito conservado en el Archivo Histórico Nacional Sección Nobleza. De esta manera, el libro tiene dos objetivos: uno primero, el análisis lingüístico de la lengua árabe escrita por varios escribanos. En segundo lugar, se presenta la transcripción diplomática de la parte escrita en lengua árabe del manuscrito original y su traducción al español.
The aim of the present work (Roman Law in Greek) is to study the composition and semantics of Byzantine Greek legal vocabulary, especially that related to procedural law, from the perspective of the Latin influence on Greek. The work is not an exhaustive treatment of all relevant words. Instead, by focusing on a selection of examples and on methodological questions, it tries to open a new perspective on Byzantine legal language. The study is in German. FENNICA Matthias Alexander Castrén (1813–1852) was by far the most significant Finnish linguist of the 19th century. The Fennica volume consists of two parts. The first part is devoted to the Kalevala, the Finnish national epic. The second part of the volume contains Castrén’s manuscripts for a Finnish grammar book. After the publication of the Kalevala in 1835, the status of Finnish rose rapidly in university circles, and it made Finnish into an interesting object of study. The Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg (b. 1958) is one of the leading figures in the field of contemporary classical music. Curiously, despite the fascinating characteristics of Lindberg’s works and the several interesting subjects his music brings up, his works have not been widely researched. This study examines Lindberg’s technical and aesthetic thinking by analyzing his significant works. The main purpose of the study is to demonstrate the composer’s construction of gesture and dramaturgy from the viewpoint of musical dramaturgy.
