AWSUM het die laaste paar maande `n ou historiese gebou in die Paarl gerestoureer om te dien as ons hoofkantoor. Die grootste uitdaging was die nuwe laag verf wat die mure, plafonne en dak sou kry en sonder die kundige hulp van JF Paints sou dié taak nie maklik gewees het nie. Elke mens wat al in hulle lewe gebou of gerestoureer het, weet dis nie `n maklike taak nie, en die een uitdaging na die ander staar jou in die gesig. So, as mens een minder kwessie het om jou oor te bekommer, het jy soveel meer tyd om op ander dinge te fokus en dis wat JF Paints vir ons beteken het - van die dag

wat hulle spesialis ons kom help het om die regte verf te kies, tot die dag wat ons besef het ons kort nog verf en hulle benoud gebel het.

Ons visie kon `n realiteit word en ons is opgewonde om vandag die foto’s met ons lesers te kan deel.

The idea to start AWSUM ten years ago, began due to the fact that my children were in primary school and it became apparent to me that mainstream and local media didn’t support schools on a large and ongoing scale. Very little was done to give learners the credit and praise they deserved for their academic and sporting achievements. There was some coverage of school news, but it seemed that the small amount published were simply to appease schools.

I noticed that in each and every school there were massive amounts of news in terms of sporting, academics and cultural activities and achievements. I decided to create a platform for schools to exclusively share news in a newspaper format that could stand alone and only focus on schools-a newspaper that could share positive news. Since most newspapers focus on negative, bad news, scandals, and stories of corruption to sell papers, this endeavour was a high risk one. Bear in mind that we had no prior knowledge of how newspapers operate in terms of news, layout, advertising costs and many other pertinent daily operations. We were not even knowledgeable with regards to the many kinds of paper thicknesses used in publishing a newspaper

We wanted to be different and focus on the parents of school children and it was thus of cardinal importance that the newspapers be distributed by schools, and that learners took these newspapers home and were not merely just another publication on the store shelves.

The following figures tell our story:

Every year we publish 4 newspapers in 22 regions on a national basis.

In February of each year, we publish 8 provincial newspapers that focus specifically on matric results.

We publish 50 special interschool editions every year.

Our annual career guide is a special edition that works with post-school educational institutions to provide matric graduates with further tertiary study information.

2.5 million parents follow our news every year via our online presence at www.awsumnews.co.za. Ten years has flown by in a heartbeat and there is much that we have learnt throughout this time and of which we are extremely proud. These include areas such as our online school-news platform www.awsumnews.co.za, which was launched 5 years ago to ensure unlimited and daily school news sharing. We currently share the ongoing news and achievements of more than 2 000 schools using this platform.

We would like to thank the schools, their marketing teams as well as the thousands of advertisers that continue to support this initiative on an ongoing basis. Without these individuals and our exceptional dedicated team, the past 10 years would not have been possible.

We have big plans for the future, and are looking forward to continuing to grow and provide quality news through our online and hardcopy publications as we take on the next ten years.

Laerskool Bosveld Primary celebrates Limpopo Cross Country athletes

Cross country has been a part of the Bossie culture for many years and has flourished over again in the face of adversity. Much like the sport itself, it has required perseverance to keep its head held high. The cross country season at Laerskool Bosveld Primary started with a larger than life group with a total of 45 athletes. Over the past six months this number has been winnowed down to a group of 26 runners.

After participating in four LIMA League races across Limpopo, these athletes were finally ready to take part in the Limpopo Championships held on 12 August 2023 in Thabazimbi.

Here a total of 13 athletes from Laerskool Bosveld Primary were selected to participate in the 2023 Cross Country SA Championships in Port Elizabeth on the 16th of September this year.

Kom ons begin by die begin. 25 Januarie 2023. Juffrou Carina se whatsapp boodskap: “Hi everyone, we are very excited for 2023 netball!!!!! Please remember sunblock and lots of water and a big smile.”

Dit is hoe hierdie wonderlike netbalseisoen afgeskop het vir die onder 12 dogters. En vandag kan ons met julle die opwindende nuus deel soos die seisoen aan die einde gekom het - hierdie span, onder 12-A dogters is die vyfde beste netbalspan in die HELE Suid-Afrika!

Baie geluk aan Juan van Tonder wat die 1ste plek behaal het tydens die SANESA Nasionale Uithourit te Louwna op 2 September 2023.

Dit is die 2de agtereenvolgende jaar wat Juan en Lormar Fire Lady die rit wen. Juan voltooi die 80km in ‘n Springbok tyd van 3:36:48 met ‘n gemiddelde spoed van 22,1km/h.

Lormar Fire Lady ontvang ook die toptoekenning as beste voorbereide perd.

Fietsry

Triegies het die fietsry-seisoen op ‘n hoë noot by Tour de Lake te Stanford College as liga-wenners afgesluit. 8 van ons fietsryers word in die Limpopo-span opgeneem.
