3D printing is all the rage these days, but for now, it’s mostly centered around little plastic doo-dads. The MINK, is a bit different. This little printer lets users choose any color on the web, or in the real world, and using simple already-existing software, print that color into a blush, eye shadow, lip gloss or any other type of makeup. See, most makeup comes from the same basic substrates, from high-end labels like Chanel all the way down to the cheap stuff available at drug stores. Founder Grace Choi sources the same substrate for the Mink so that users can turn any image into any kind of makeup. The idea here is that consumers are increasingly focused on instant gratification and DIY solutions. Choi also noticed that makeup

consumers aren’t always loyal to certain brands, but rather focused on convenience. With Mink, users can satisfy the desire for instant gratification while still having access to any color in the world at an affordable price. Simply choose a color on a website, Pinterest board, or snap one with your phone in the real world, and use any color picker to locate the hex code of the color. Once you have the code, you can put it into any other program like Photoshop or Paint and simply press print. The company is targeting the younger, 13-21 demographic who are less ingrained in their
habits with certain brands and retailers. Currently, the Mink is still a prototype, which is set to retail at $300 (approx. R3000) and although the prices of the ink and raw materials aren’t available yet, we totally think Grace Choi is on to something big. What would you want to print first? Your own eyeshadow? Or what about a blusher? The options are endless.

Sometimes life throws you some old tiles and then you have two options: live with it, or paint and stamp it! Save yourself a heap of cash by opting for this very clever stamp that can be used in any number of ways. My kitchen had been in desperate need of a tiled splash-back because unlike most old homes, I wasn’t blessed with horrid old kitchen tiles. 1.Cut 16 mm chip board to the size you want your panel to be, minus 2.5 mm on all 4 sides. This will ensure that the tiles hang over the wood a little bit to create a nice shadow line.

GRILLED GRAPE FRUITS At the very tail-end of winter the grape fruit is in full swing. I started serving these zesty and yet slightly warming delicacies on cooler spring retreat mornings. There is something intrinsically cheerful about the smell of grapefruits that make them a welcome addition to a breakfast spread. Select ruby grapefruits for their vibrant colour and richer antioxidant content and use a grapefruit knife to cut into segments before grilling for easier eating. The sprinkle of brown sugar will melt into the grapefruit as it caramelizes,
softening the bitterness and giving the surface a perfectly radiant glow. A joyous and juicy way to begin the day. • 3 grapefruits • 2 tbls brown sugar (approximately) Set the oven to grill and place a rack in the middle shelf. Cut grapefruits evenly in half, slice 2-3mm off each base to allow grapefruits to rest flat without rolling. If using a grapefruit knife, carefully cut along the rim of the flesh before cutting into 4 or 8 segments. Place grapefruits on a baking sheets,

Na ‘n senutergende wedstryd in swak lig is hul gekroon as die wenners van die dag. Hugenote se o/13 7’s span het 2 Augustus aan die Curro National o/13 7’s rugby toernooi deelgeneem. Hulle het Curro in die skildfinaal 50-0 geklop.

Huguenot Primary is very proud of our 1E class. Their “The crocodile” won the trophy for the best Foundation phase choral verse at the Paarl Eisteddfod.
Gimnastiek Anje Grobbelaar het aan die Distrikproewe vir Artisties gimnastiek by Swartklip Indoor Sentrum deelgeneem. Sy het ‘n silwer medalje verower in Artistiese Gimnastiek en is opgeneem in die Boland Distrikspan wat die Cape Winelands distrik op 28-30 Augustus by die South Zone kampioenskappe in Kaapstad gaan verteenwoordig.

Verskeie leerders is die afgelope tyd deur geduldige onderwysers afgerig vir optrede tydens die jaarlikse Eisteddfod. Verskeie leerders het dan ook agterna kon spog met hul toekennings.
Op 8 Augustus het Laer Meisieskool La Rochelle hulle 154ste verjaarsdag gevier met ‘n spesiale saalbyeenkoms waar kerse aangesteek is en ‘n kaartjie oorhandig is. Die leerders kon in “civvies” kom – aangetrek as dames. Wat ‘n voorreg om betrokke te wees by ‘n skool met ‘n lang rekord van uitnemendheid.

Soos gewoonlik het ‘n klomp studente La Rochelle gekies vir hulle praktiese ondervinding. Hulle het genoeg geleentheid gekry om les te gee en klasse te hanteer sodat hulle met hulle eerste dag as onderwysers nie onkant gevang word nie.

Hugo Rust het ‘n bydra gemaak aan die Kombers-brei-projek!! Dit was ‘n groot sukses na die taak met baie liefde aangepak is.
Tydens die 5de en laaste toernooi van die jaar vaar ons spelers uitstekend. Hy het ook geen wedstryde in die reeks verloor nie.

Die O/13 A-rugby, netbal en hokkiespanne het ‘n baie geslaagde toer na die Suid Kaap onderneem. Hulle het aan ‘n sportnaweek in Hartenbos deelgeneem en teen o.a. Jeffreysbaai, Gill Kollege, Hartenbos, en George-Suid gespeel.
Ons het vir ‘n dag ons skoolskoene vir gemaklike, snoesige slippers verruil. Hoekom? Want Hugo Rusters gee om... En met donasies wat ontvang is kan ons ander help!

Ons is baie trots op ons o/7 netbalspannetjie. Hulle het aan die begin van die derde kwartaal hulle eerste wedstryd gespeel en na vier is hulle nog steeds onoorwonne. Ons is baie trots op hulle en volg hulle vordering met aandag.
Die kleintjies het baie aandagtig geluister en weet nou alles van varke af, ,maar Ryna en Justin dink dit is “stinky poo!!” Dis baie veiliger om jou neus toe te druk: “Wat te erg is, is te erg!!!!”

Die Graad R’e is baie opgewonde oor hulle toekomsplanne. Met van ‘n elektrisien tot ‘n ginekoloog is daar beslis hoop vir die nasie! So, Pappa en Mamma, begin maar spaar vir daardie studies!

Hoërskool La Rochelle 14 AUGUST 2014 ATKV-Redenaars Twee leerders van die Hoër Meisieskool La Rochelle, Iriné van Zyl (graad 9) en Marike Franken (graad 11) het deurgedring na die semi-finale rondte van die ATKV-Redenaarskompetisie, waar Iriné onder die Top 10 in die Wes Kaap geëindig het.

Netbal Die Hoër Meisieskool La Rochelle se o/14A-, o/16A- en o/18A-Netbalspanne het aan die Clanwilliam (SPAR) Netbaltoernooi by die Hoërskool Augsburg Landbougimnasium deelgeneem. Die o.18A-span was die wenners van die Genis Beker in die o/18-afdeling. Hulle het 18-20 teen Windhoek Gimnasium verloor, maar wenne teen Hoërskool Vredenburg (20-11), DF Malan A (28-20), Hoërskool Swellendam (25-8) en DF MALAN B in die finaal (26-13) aangeteken. Die o/16A span was tweede in hulle liga. Hulle verloor teen Augsburg (10-11), maar wen teen Hoërskool Stellenbosch B (14-8), Hoërskool Lutzville (16-11), Hoërskool Stellenbosch A (17-13) en Hoërskool Swellendam (13-11).
This past weekend was an extremely busy one for the debaters of La Rochelle. On Sunday, two teams took part in the Western Cape Schools Provincial Debating Competition at Bishops. The Junior A Team won 3 of their 4 rounds, ranking 2nd at the break and are through to the semi-finals. The Senior A Team won 4 of their 6 rounds, breaking to the quarter finals, where they lost to SACS. After completion of the competition, 3 Larries were placed in the TOP 10 Megan Ferreira was ranked 10th amongst the Seniors and in the Junior division Annabel Moore ranked 9th and Jordan Willett ranked 1st!

International Hockey Festival The u18A hockey team competed at the International Hockey festival held in Cape Town during the 1st week of the 3rd term.
