Congratulations to the winners of Miss Girls’ High 2015. It was an evening filled with style and Girls’ High MAGIC! Miss Girls’ High was held on Thursday, 14 May 2015. The theme for the special evening was ‘Life is a circus - enjoy the ride!’. Hannes van Wyk from Kwêla fame was the MC for the evening. The judges included: AD Muller (A3D Architects), Juanri van Zyl and Juliana du Toit (Image Consultants), Eduan Roos (Fashion Designer), Tarryn Lee Aboud (Redkern representative) and Justine Kroes (Beauty Assistant of Rooi Rose).

Mushroom chicken stir fry Serves 4
INGREDIENTS: • 20ml peanut or vegetable oil • 6 deboned skinless chicken thighs cut into bite-sized pieces. • 3 Tbls corn flour • ½ tsp ground white pepper • ½ tsp salt • 1 tsp ground cumin • 6 spring onions with tops, roughly chopped • 300g Oyster or Shimeji mushrooms • 3cm fresh ginger, cut into very thin matchsticks • 3 cloves crushed garlic • 1 red chili, thinly sliced • 2 tbls soy sauce • ½ cup Wellington’s tomato sauce • 1 Tbls runny honey • Freshly chopped coriander • 150ml Veg or chicken stock

METHOD: Place the chicken into a glass bowl with the corn flour, white pepper, salt and cumin – mix together to coat. Heat the oil in a large wok or frying pan and stir fry the chicken in two batches for 3 minutes. Now return the chicken to the wok and add the mushrooms and spring onions, ginger, garlic and chili. Cook for 1 minute, stirring; add the soy sauce and tomato sauce, stir well to combine. Add honey and stock and cook the chicken till done, about another 10 minutes, stir in the coriander and serve with steamed rice or veggie noodles.

Laerskool Paarl Gimnasium se voorlopige o.13A-dogters hokkiespan het ‘n kort toer onderneem na die Suid-Kaap. Hulle het wedstryde gespeel teen Hoërskool Swellendam se o.16-span en wen 8-0. Hul volgende wedstryd was Laerskool Outeniqua se o.13A-span en wen 2-0.

Laerskool Paarl Gimnasium is trots op hul twee o.13 Boland hokkiespelers, nl. Tia van Zyl en Quinlynn Kermis wat geurende die Junie-vakansie aan die Nasionale toernooi te Pietermaritzburg gaan deelneem.
RUGBY
Laerskool Paarl Gimnasium se o.13A rugbyspan het gedurende die vakansie na Bloemfontein getoer waar hulle in die Grey Kollege Super Series deelgeneem het. Die span het teen top skole van reg oor Suid-Afrika gespeel
en het die laaste dag teen Selbone Kollege gespeel in die finaal van die toernooi waar Gim 28-21 gewen het en is toe die toernooi wenners van Grey Kollege Super Series 2015. Baie geluk aan die span met die mooi prestasie.
HOKKIE STREEKSPAN
Na afloop van die eerste reeks Shiraz-proewe dring Mia Lawrie, Quinlynn Kermis, Shani Botha, Tia van Zyl en Coreen Matthee deur na die volgende rondte.
Morné Burger en Butch Strasheim is opgeneem in die Shiraz 0.13 Streekspan. Hulle gaan van 29 Junie tot 1 Julie 2015 deelneem aan ‘n toernooi in George. Baie geluk en sterkte, ons is baie trots op julle twee!

Afrikaans is een van net vier tale wat in die vorige eeu suksesvol in alle taalfunksies moderniseer het. Die Gr 4-leerders het die Taalmonument besoek en meer geleer van ons interessante en kleurvolle taal.

Ons skoolkoor ‘n puik optrede gehad het tydens die beKOOR konsert in die Paarl. Die aand was gedeel met kore van Girls High, Boys High, La Rochelle en Hoërskool Stellenbosch.
OPEDAG-SUKSES
‘n Klomp glimlaggend ouers en voornemende leerders (met amper te min plek in die saal!) het hul opwagting gemaak by ons Opedag vir 2015. Ons sien uit om die jongspan in 2016 hier te verwelkom!
UITRUILPROGRAM NA DUITSLAND Suzanne Wüst, ‘n Graad 11-leerling van Hugenote Hoërskool, is gekeur vir die FSA Jeuguitruilprogram na Duitsland. Sy het ‘n briljante keuringsuitslag gehad van 93.1%. Sy staan ook 1ste Nasionaal en Provinsiaal.
