Wow, where has 2015 gone?! Can you believe it’s only 7 weeks untill schools close and 10 weeks untill Christmas? It’s been a jam-packed year with sports, academics, concerts, social events, award ceremonies etc … I’m sure that the one thing on every teacher, student and (especially) parents’ mind is final exams, eeck! But in the very wise words of my favourite little fish, Dory: “Just keep swimming”.

GRADE 11 JOB SHADOWING
After Grade 12, learners are thrown into the big, wide world where they have to follow a certain career path for the rest of their lives. Talk about tough decisions! Thankfully, the Grade 11’s were given the opportunity to ‘job shadow’ – follow around a professional of their choice for a day – in the hopes of gathering information about their future potential career paths. Learners from Beaconhurst spent Friday,
4 September, away from school, spending the day at engineering firms, hospitals, schools and offices. This opportunity not only informed the learners about the working world, but it also gave them an indication as to whether their current idea of a future career choice is accurate or not. Watch out, you might just see Beaconhurst pupils being local stars in the working world sooner than you think!

TEACHER’S DAY AWARDS
We congratulate Alida Schoeman for winning the Eastern Cape regional section of the Teacher’s Day Awards. During the school holidays Miss Schoeman was flown to Cape Town to attend celebrations for these teachers. The teachers were nominated by their pupils who wrote 200 word essays about a teacher who had made a difference in their life. Miss Schoeman was nominated by Rachel-Mae Forsyth, who wrote the following about her: “The teacher I’m nominating is Miss Schoeman. In grade three I went through a difficult time with my dad as he was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Miss Schoeman was always there for me no matter what she was like a second mom. I often missed tests due to spending time with my dad, I caught up after school she would help me even after hours when her day was supposed to end and when I didn’t understand she would help and guide me. At a stage I was also being bullied by one of the girls in the class. I went
to Miss Schoeman and asked her for help she advised me to not worry about it and to try become friends with the girl and show her that I am a better person. I tried my best but it was hard to become friends with someone you dislike so much and hurts your feelings. In the end we became good friends and I learnt a life lesson to always love your enemies. Thank you Miss Schoeman you truly are the best teacher ever!” Hudson Park is thankful to have caring and dedicated teachers, as epitomized by Miss Schoeman.
LONG-SERVING STAFF MEMBERS We thank our dedicated staff members who, by the end of this year, will have completed the following decades of service to Hudson Park: • 40 years: Alida Schoeman • 30 years: Morgan Lands • 20 years: Bunty Breetzke, Jenny Marlow, Marion Rayment • 10 years: Tynnielle Boucher, Kim Farr, Nicholas Mndali, Elton Magade

FOOD
Sesame-seared tuna with a Sweet and Sour Twist Serves 4
By Jenny Morris Follow Jenny @jennymorrischef
© Jenny Morris 2014 -2015
The tuna needs to be fresh and deep red – and I mean really fresh. INGREDIENTS: • A little oil for searing • 1 tbls, fresh ginger, grated • 2 cloves garlic, crushed • 2 spring onions with tops very finely chopped • 1 tsp sesame oil • 1 tbls soy sauce • ¾ cup Wellingtons Sweet and Sour Sauce • 4 thick slices of raw tuna • 2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted
•
•
Oil a grill pan lightly and sear the tuna on both sides – don’t take it beyond medium, it is better served rare. Heat the leftover marinade in a small saucepan and drizzle over tuna. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve with sticky rice and stirfried vegetables.
METHOD: • Mix all the ingredients together, except the tuna and sesame seeds. • Lay the tuna in the marinade for 15 minutes, turning once. • Remove the tuna from the marinade and set aside.
