My name is Colin Gonzalez, your 2014-2015 Texas Oklahoma District Treasurer, and I am ridiculously excited for this Key Club Year! To start, I want all of y’all to feel like I am accessible to you and I am willing to help y’all with anything you need at any time! I am currently a junior at Mansfield High School, Division 39S, Region 7. I have dedicated my time and effort to Key Club since my freshman year, although I initially joined to learn what Key Club was all about, help others, and hang out with my friends. So naturally when I started I had no idea that Key Club International was a thing, but all that changed after attending my first DCON. This sparked my interest in Key Club and I have only grown my love for this organization since. Outside of Key Club I am also involved with National Honor Society and Student Council where I hold the position of Student Body Representative. Despite this other activity involvement, Key Club will ALWAYS take priority over any other organization. Contact: Treasurer@tokeyclub.com
I’m Emily Zhao, the 2014-2015 T-O District Editor. I preserve a healthy obsession over the color purple, and I have a refined taste for tomatoes. In addition, I utterly love Key Club! During my term as District Editor, I aim to give feedback to each and every club newsletter. I also hope to further increase the Tex-O-Key audience so that all Key Clubbers across Texas-Oklahoma will utilize it as a helpful resource. In addition, I want to help club editors create beautiful masterpieces of newsletters. Feel free to invite me to any fundraisers, service projects, and meetings. I’ll try my best to attend these to see all of your magnificent faces! Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions or request feedback on articles and newsletters. I’m always happy to give tips and suggestions to further enhance your publications. Contact: Editor@tokeyclub.com

Hello Texas-Oklahoma Key Clubbers, My name is Andrew Loh and I will be serving as your 2014-2015 Convention Liaison! I am currently a senior at Mansfield High School and I am so pumped to be working towards creating an unforgettable convention with the rest of the District Board. For DCON 2015 I have a couple of goals: to increase the hype and excitement about DCON, to pay special attention to the forums taught, to revamp aspects of convention from the Welcoming Activity, to General Sessions, and to downtime in general, to create more promotional items to get more information out, and most importantly, to commemorate 100 years of Kiwanis service worldwide. Don’t forget to keep on serving and I hope to see YOU at DCON 2015! Cl@tokeyclub.com

Divisional Project Suicide takes the lives of nearly 40,000 Americans each year. This might just sound like a statistic, but in reality it means so much more. On October 4th, 2014, roughly 20 Key clubbers arrived at Reverchon Park in Dallas to support Suicide attempt survivors and families mourning over someone dear to them that they have lost. We watched humans cross the ballooned arch not only looking for hope, but smiling because key club gave them something to hope about. The division joined hands and chanted as Out of the Darkness Walkers passed! A -F-S-P Heroes are what we see. We all knew that the ones out there supporting the cause are true fighters. It was phenomenal to see all of the key clubbers say “This event was so fun”, not because of the free food or because of the wristbands, but because they had the chance to make someone happy. After cheering for all of the walkers/runners, a few guest speakers came up to tell us various stories. One of the speakers was a Dallas Independent School District Trustee. “I work to help the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual and Transgender children… These students continue to live in fear. One boy, afraid to ‘come out of the closet’ had chairs thrown at him in class and was looking to be saved.” When we heard the stories, we couldn’t help but feel our heart break. No one deserves that kind of treatment. Suddenly the speakers saddened voice, turned positive, “But you all are doing something good today. You guys are spreading hope, and you guys are here because you don’t care what sexual orientation, or race you guys are. You all have the same goal in mind.” Words like this makes me know that I volunteered for something I will be proud of for the rest of my life. Thank you to everyone that came, and thank you to Steve Nguyen for helping with Transportation!

Color Up Fun by Shanon Quach Garland High School Starting the school year off with an array of colored powder on your hands and face marks the end of another successful 5K Color Up. Stained from head to toe, the rainbow exemplifies the beauty of service. Still able to see the stars, I woke up before the sunrise and headed to the Granville Arts Center. You can call it a calm and peaceful morning if you subtract the blaring song of “ Single Ladies. It puts a smile on my face seeing volunteers alike waiting for their instructions regardless of the chilly temperature and the earliness of morning. I love everything that comes with the bustling and excitement of a race. Other clubs such as 5K Crew and HOSA were also there to represent the face of Garland High School. Believe it or not, this would be my first race to volunteer and it turned out to be an amazing experience. Of course I have participated in various runs, but never have I offered my service at one nor did I do it with Key Club. As a new member, I was buoyant! Getting together with a group of my friends, we were assigned at Central Park to spray the colors on the runners. Making our way to the park, I entered a friendly competition of who can get there first with a friend. Basically, we sprinted to the color station, out of breath, gasping for air. I felt like I was a runner in the race, pushing myself with determination and willpower for a great cause. From the park, we were distributed shirts according to color and sent away to our stations. Let's just say, purple is my favorite color so therefore I was assigned to that station. What a great event, when I was able to intermingle with other organizations having the same mentality of serving others. Preparing for the hundreds of people coming through our runway decorated with waving flags shaped like feathers and a mist of purple, my body tingled with good spirits. My favorite moments comprises of witnessing the perseverance of each individual breaking through the foggy arch, renewed with energy as the cheers of the volunteers raise in volume. From toddlers to elders, the unification of everyone creates a beautiful harmony as we work together for the benefits of others. By the end of the event, a last hoorah to thank all for their services and participation, we ended the 5K with a burst of colors across the sky, hands in the air, heads held high, and a feeling of accomplishment.
