DESIGN A LEATHERMAN COMPETITION
Design a Leatherman COMPETITION 2019
Now in it’s second year, our Design a Leatherman Contest continues to introduce the concept of a Leatherman multi-tool to a whole new generation of New Zealanders.

The Design a Leatherman Competition was first introduced to New Zealand in 2018. It challenges school-age New Zealanders to imagine, create and think outside the box by offering the chance to design a Leatherman multi-tool featuring all the necessary gadgets to successfully navigate the rigours of childhood.
We were overwhelmed by the number of participants throughout the country who entered the competition and the high standard of the designs for multi-tools they submitted.
Taking out top prize in the Senior Category was Finn de Boo of Cashmere High School with his entry "The Patroller", a tool designed to be used by lifeguards featuring a myriad of quintessential tools such as a waterproof Bluetooth speaker “for tunes on the beach” and a thermometer for checking the temperature on the beach. Phoebe Macpherson of Freyberg High School took out second in the category with The School Hacker, and Ella Wieliczko from Hillcrest High School who won last year’s competition took out third in the Senior Category with her Little Lassie tool specifically designed for pets.
The Survivor 2.0 designed by Jacqueline Tsang of Westminster Christian School, who overcame the odds of designing her masterpiece with a fractured arm, took out top spot in the Junior Category. The Survivor 2.0 features an array of 26 tools, including essentials such as a “mini hammer to smash stuff”, and a charger “in case of digital emergency” of course! Leatherman’s founder and creator Tim Leatherman, was left with the unenviable task of sifting through a deluge of high-quality submissions from school-age students from around New Zealand to pick just a handful of finalists. All winners received a Special Edition Leatherman multi-tool personally engraved by Tim Leatherman, as well as a range of cash prizes.
