The Design a Leatherman Competition was first introduced to New Zealand in 2018. It challenges school-age New Zealanders to imagine, create and think outside the box by offering the chance to design a Leatherman multi-tool featuring all the necessary gadgets to successfully navigate the rigours of childhood. We were overwhelmed by the number of participants throughout the country who entered the competition and the high standard of the designs for multi-tools they submitted.
of Freyberg High School took out second in the category with The School Hacker, and Ella Wieliczko from Hillcrest High School who won last year’s competition took out third in the Senior Category with her Little Lassie tool specifically designed for pets.
Leatherman’s founder and creator Tim Leatherman, was left with the unenviable task of sifting through a deluge of high-quality submissions from school-age students from around New Zealand to pick just a handful of finalists. All winners received a Special Edition
