NIKKI >
Welcome to another edition of our six-monthly magazine designed for you, our retailers.
I say it every issue, but these last six months in particular have been very busy for us here in Napier. We’ve welcomed three new staff members with Sam, Daniel and Hayley joining us. Sam is our amazing new sales and marketing manager, Dan has joined our marketing department and Hayley joins our admin staff. We’ve really enjoyed welcoming them all to our team. In the last few months we’ve launched exciting new products from Leatherman (the FREE range) and Klean Kanteen (the TKWide range) – if you haven’t seen these products yet, check out pages 20 and 32 respectively for more information. We’re about to build on our
very successful Domex Halo range with the introduction of the Starlite – still using Nikwax hydrophobic down but in a semi-rectangular bag designed for travel and outdoor use. Plus, we’re very excited as we are currently launching two new brands: ENO hammocks (page 10) plus, after a long time searching, we’ve finally found a sock brand that we love with Wrightsock, the socks that are guaranteed to keep you blister-free (page 14). I hope you enjoy reading this issue. As always, if you have any suggestions on how we can improve this magazine or the service we provide to you, we would love to hear from you.

NEW LEDLENSER ML4 LANTERN
ENO HAMMOCKS
POWERTRAVELLER HARRIER 25
A lightweight powerhouse
Strong, lightweight and durable hammocks
Portable, wireless 6700mAh power pack
The ultra-compact ML4 is less than 10cm high and weighs only 71 grams, yet produces up to 300 lumens of brightness and has a burn time of up to 45 hours.
American brand ENO creates ingeniously crafted parachute hammocks that stand apart from the rest. With a no-knots needed setup, heavy duty triple stitched seams and constructed out of soft, breathable and fast drying fabric, it is no wonder ENO is one of the world’s leading brands in hammocks.
The Harrier 25 offers versatile charging solutions for any user. This portable, wireless 6700mAh power pack features an elastic strap to safely attach a smartphone or other 5V device to the product while recharging on the go.
It is powered by the included rechargeable battery, or one AA alkaline battery. The carabiner snap hook provides different attachment options such as hanging from a tent pole or attaching to the back of a pack. The ML4 is a brilliant option for when high-performance brightness is needed and every gram counts. Covered by Ledlenser’s 7 year extended warranty.
ENO’s flagship product is the DoubleNest Hammock, which is big enough for two and ultimately comfortable for one, and stuffs easily into its attached compression sack so you can take it anywhere.
If wireless charging isn't an option, the Harrier 25 also allows for charging USB devices with the included cable. The rugged design is waterproof and dustproof to IP65 rating and features smart charging automatic on/off detection technology via the bi-directional USB-C port.

The Barrel Bag is Tatonka’s bestselling product internationally, and has become a firm favourite amongst Kiwis for its toughness and versatility. NEW Sliders available from Gumbies this summer
NEW Gumbies jandals with cork top layer
Waterproof Gumbies NOW available
Gumbies are the most comfortable jandals you’ll ever own. Available in November the Gumbie Corkers feature a real cork top layer which has many attributes: warm in winter, cool in summer, breathable, anti-microbial, durable, water resistant and super comfortable.
Your favourite jandal is now waterproof! Gumbies Duckbill jandals have a textured top layer of EVA to give comfort and grip plus they're 100% waterproof. No need to worry about jandals getting wet. Ideal for water-based excursions and activities alike.
The Corkers have the same non-slip outsole make up as the traditional Gumbies jandal with jute for strength.
Duckbill Gumbies feature the unique recycled rubber sole, but without the jute to ensure the quickest drying possible.
Perfect for people who don’t like the feel of anything between their toes, Gumbies have produced a slider that still has all the comfort and benefits of the traditional Gumbies jandals. The contoured shape of the slider along with the cushioned midsole provide ultimate comfort, whilst using the most practical, natural and recycled planet-friendly materials where possible. Available in cool grey, navy and purple hibiscus.
The recycled cotton canvas strap and super soft cotton toe post provide a non-chafing flip-flop experience. A must for any beach, bar or hike. Available in blue, khaki and red.
The strap is made from PET (recycled post-consumer plastic bottles) which is quick-drying, durable and still incorporates Gumbies soft toe post; so no chaffing! Available in black, grey, navy and purple.

SLEEPING Nothing is worse than a bad night’s sleep, especially when you’re on holiday. Luckily Domex sleeping bags are designed specifically for New Zealand conditions and have been keeping Kiwis snug for over 40 years. If your customer wants to keep their sleeping bag nice and fresh, point them in the direction of a sleeping bag liner. Domex has liners available in polyester and silk, while the Coghlan’s range includes a mid-price point Sleeping bag liner that keeps sleeping bags warmer and drier by wicking moisture away.

Coghlan’s Tent Light is also great for providing a comfortable glow inside the tent or around the picnic table. to put the pack through its paces and plans on throwing a little more abuse its way. Have a read of what he had to say about it. “I recently got to put the Tatonka Stealth pack to use on a pig hunting mission in some rugged alpine country in Kaikoura, which involved a lot of bashing through thick scrub, matagouri and rosehip. The pack handled the nasty weather well, and had more than enough space for the various things I require when pig hunting - first aid kit, spare food, water, ammo, wet weathers etc. Thanks to the belt strap, it sat well on my back even with a 135lb boar over my shoulders. Although being stealthy wasn't particular important for this type of hunting, I imagine

that the brushed outer would make a huge difference in tight country when stalking deer. All up, it's a great day bag and one that certainly feels like it's capable of taking an absolute beating, and I'm sure that's what I'll be giving it over the coming years! If you want to find out more

The Design a Leatherman Competition was first introduced to New Zealand in 2018. It challenges school-age New Zealanders to imagine, create and think outside the box by offering the chance to design a Leatherman multi-tool featuring all the necessary gadgets to successfully navigate the rigours of childhood. We were overwhelmed by the number of participants throughout the country who entered the competition and the high standard of the designs for multi-tools they submitted.

Michele Mill To highlight Ledlenser’s vast range of applications this winter we launched the Ledlenser Lighting Up New Zealand Campaign which challenged New Zealanders to break the shackles of winter, get outdoors and get active and photograph their adventures in return for a range of awesome cash and product prizes.
The uptake of the campaign was overwhelming with hundreds of entries across a broad range of activities from tramping, camping, star-gazing, running, riding, and hunting right through to bush dentistry and a late night stop at KFC! Entries were whittled down to just five finalists which were then put out to a public vote on Ledlenser social media. Finalists were: •

MARKETING UPDATE NEW DISPLAY STANDS Here at Tight Lines we understand that our retail partners have just a few seconds to attract – and hold – a buyer’s eye. We see a successful display stand as something that engages a customer’s interest and encourages them to explore the range. It acts as a silent salesperson, whilst keeping stock ranges neat and tidy and truly showcasing the range of the brand on offer.
KLEAN KANTEEN DISPLAY STANDS There are now two great Klean Kanteen display stand options available to all our qualifying Klean Kanteen Retailers: • The Klean Kanteen Counter Top Display holds up to 12 Klean Kanteen bottles/tumblers and a range of accessories, and is a sleek looking option for your countertop. • There’s also the Klean Kanteen Floor Display which holds up to 36 Klean Kanteen bottles/tumblers and accessories and gives your Klean Kanteen range some serious store bling!
38
NIKWAX DISPLAY OPTIONS The range of Nikwax display options has also been expanded. Now with three great durable display options, there’s an option for every qualifying Nikwax Retailer to bring the Nikwax brand closer to your customers. This enables the Nikwax range to be displayed next to the garment or item of gear it is designed to care for whilst also educating consumers about the range. The new range of displays allows you to display Nikwax products on a slat wall, a counter or in key high traffic areas in-store; with the units collectively displaying the whole range. The floor standing unit can display 1 litre, 500ml, 300ml, 125ml and 100ml bottles and tubes as well as sachets whilst the slat wall and counter units can display 300ml and 100ml bottles and tubes. TECH TALK FISHER SPACE PENS
THE MILLION DOLLAR SPACE PEN
>
With celebrations around the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing hitting our screens recently we’ve been feeling a special affinity here at Tight Lines as the New Zealand distributors of Fisher Space Pens.
Fisher Space Pens are handcrafted and able to write underwater, over grease, at any angle, upside down, in zero gravity, and in extreme temperatures ranging from -35°C to 120°C, so it’s little wonder that they’ve accompanied both American Astronauts and Russian Cosmonauts on every manned mission since 1967 as their writing tool of choice. But you don’t have to get stratospheric to appreciate this famous little pen’s technological advantages that have stood the test of time and cemented its spot as an outstanding piece of industrial art. In fact, you’ll not only find the Fisher Space Pen has been a topic in many art books and magazine articles over the years, but also has been a permanent feature of the New York Museum of Modern Art for years. So what makes Fisher Space Pens so unique?
40
The secret behind the unique capabilities of Fisher Space Pens lies in the ink cartridge itself. Their refills are hermetically sealed (airtight), pressurised with nitrogen gas, and feature a tungsten carbide ballpoint tip - the same extra hard metal that is used to make armour-piercing ammunition. This means Fisher Space Pens don’t rely on gravity to write, and are able to function at any angle, even upside down! In order to prevent leaks from the gas pressure, Fisher

Space Pens ink must be thick, or thixotropic to be exact. Fisher ink is more of a gel than a liquid when it is at rest, with a consistency like that of toothpaste. It is only when pressure is applied to the ballpoint that the ink will take on the spreadable properties of a liquid, while still retaining the stickiness needed to adhere to nearly any material. All of these unique capabilities combine to create the ultimate pen for tackling whatever the great Kiwi outdoors throws your way!

Staff profiles: Sam Talbot Main role at Tight Lines: Sales & Marketing Manager Sam is a relatively new addition to Tight Lines having joined the Team back in May and works closely with Tight Lines’ sales and marketing teams. He’s quickly learnt that no two days are the same at Tight Lines, and thrives on the passion, dedication, and professionalism in their approach to the job at hand that both teams pump out in spades. Prior to Tight Lines, Sam spent 11 years working in the wholesale distribution of global health and fitness brands. More recently Sam owned his own business alongside his wife Caro, which he recently sold. Outside of work Sam enjoys travelling, keeping fit (training towards his 9th marathon in 2020 after a bit of a hiatus (kids)) and hanging out with his young family. Sam’s favourite thing about his role can be summed
up in one word: ‘variety’. With multiple products, multiple brands, and two great teams to work with, there’s never a dull moment! He also looks forward to getting to meet more of Tight Lines’ customer base. 41
