WILDO
Lightweight, functional, compact, Swedish-made campware We’re excited to introduce wildo, a range of colourful campware that is as stylish as it is functional.
>
In 1979, Ingvar Svantesson set himself a challenge - to help outdoor enthusiasts by reducing the campware
they had to carry. When designing his products, he wanted to make sure they were as lightweight, durable and compact as possible.
7
Ingvar shared his vision with Jan Andersson, a former captain in the Swedish Army. Jan understood that their products needed to work even in the most primitive conditions. Together they introduced a new range of outdoor tableware and accessories starting with the Fold-A-Cup, a cup that pops up from a folded position to a full size cup or bowl. More than 35 years later, the original Fold-A-Cup is a classic, found all over the world and was classified as a work of art by Svensk Form Copyright Panel. In Svantesson’s and Andersson’s original vision they wanted to make sure all products were produced from quality materials, with respect for human and environmental resources at the forefront. To achieve this, they decided to manufacture the products in their hometown of Borås, Sweden. Today, all Wildo products are still proudly made in Sweden. Over the years Wildo’s product range has expanded, but the initial goal of helping outdoor enthusiasts by producing lightweight, functional and compact campware has remained the same. I have always been a jandal fan. Something about wearing jandals just makes me feel in the
holiday mood. I have a few pairs of rubber jandals in my wardrobe that have always served me well, so when our new Gumbie’s jandals arrived, I was sceptical. Jandals made of canvas and recycled tyres? Sure, they looked good, but would they actually be any better than my

Six months later, I am a total convert.
The only negative I have ever found is they take slightly
Gumbies are by far the most comfortable, practical and hard-wearing jandals I have ever owned. Last weekend I was at my parent’s lifestyle block, carrying my 19 month old down a steep grassy hill, wearing my Gumbies. I would never, ever attempt to do that with rubber jandals. But Gumbie’s have the most amazing grip on the bottom (recycled tyres will do that) so I actually >

longer to dry than rubber, but it’s not a biggie. Especially as they always seem warmer than typical rubber jandals, which may be a result of the cushioned canvas insole. So when this season’s new styles arrive, I am throwing out my old rubber jandals and filling my wardrobe with Gumbies. Jackie works in the Tight Lines marketing department. But what happens when this gear begins to show the results of its adventures? Often people find after a few years of use, their jackets, boots, sleeping bags and even tents stop being waterproof. Nikwax’s high performance cleaners safely remove dirt whilst reviving the DWR. Because household detergents damage the DWR, it is important to always use a Nikwax product when cleaning waterproof clothing, footwear or equipment.
Most waterproof outdoor clothing, footwear and gear has a coating on the outside called a ‘Durable Water

Cleaning should always be the first step for people who are concerned about the performance of their gear, especially for relatively new or recently re-waterproofed gear, as often the DWR will be revitalised just from cleaning. Waterproofing
Over time, dirt, body oils and other contaminants can degrade the DWR causing your gear to ‘wet out’. Cleaning with normal household detergents also leaves behind waterattracting residues that can impair the DWR. When the DWR fails, the fabric soaks up water. This means its breathability is reduced and water vapour is unable to escape, causing

Even with proper cleaning, the DWR coating does wear away through use, and that is when Nikwax waterproofing products are needed to add DWR and revive breathability. Nikwax Waterproofers can also improve the water repellency of fabrics such as fleece and cotton, which often come with no factoryapplied DWR. Nikwax is here to help

DISPLAY IT WELL A well displayed product makes a big difference to its sales. Here are some ideas for displaying Tatonka’s best selling barrel bags. Barrel bags are Tatonka’s biggest selling product here in New Zealand, but the way you display them makes a big difference to how they sell. Below are some examples of good displays the reps have found over the years. We are more than happy to help you develop a display that will work in your store.
Gordon’s Outdoor Equipment, Wellington
Hunting & Fishing, Manawatu, Palmerston North
Dwights Outdoors, Wellington
17
Things to keep in mind: Bags on display need to be filled Barrel bags look best when displayed in a range of colours and sizes If displaying vertically they should be stacked from biggest bags on the bottom to smallest on top If possible, have a display set up and sell back-up flat stock They make an eye-catching window display as they’re very colourful When displayed on the wall they can be seen from across the store
DIS P L AY ING BAR RE L BAG S AND L AR G ER PAC K S. A great solution to making sure your barrel bags and bigger packs always look well displayed is to use pillows. They won’t deflate like air bags, and allow the barrel bags to be stacked nicely. They also should be harder to accidentally sell with a pack or bag! We picked some pillows up on special at $3 each, so visit your local homeware or department store. Thanks to Mike Stent from Taupo Fly & Gun for the tip.

Veronica Put recently discovered an advantage (or maybe disadvantage) of the brightness of Ledlenser lights.
22
“My partner and I were walking out of a hunting spot in the dark when we spotted this little bugger sitting on a fence. It was completely stunned from the brightness of my partners’ XEO19R Ledlenser that was lighting our way. He got within half a metre of the possum before it realized there was something behind the light and took off. It was funny cos when it took off it nearly jumped on my partner. I’m not sure who got the biggest fright out of us three!”
Patrick Dizon is a dairy farmer who brought a Ledlenser SEO 5 headlamp for checking cows and calves in the early morning and was amazed at its performance. While overseas on holiday he gave his headlamp to his brother, and when back in New Zealand chose to buy the Ledlenser SEO 7R. Patrick started getting interested in astrophotography a few months ago and always has his Ledlenser headlamp in his camera bag.

Numinous bags have four different levels of security Anti-Slash Technology Every Numinous backpack is constructed of fabric lined with Kevlar felt. Kevlar is commonly used in stab-resistant body armour, sports, industry and even space. Kevlar felt makes Numinous backpacks highly cutresistant but still lightweight. This ensures maximum protection against anyone trying to gain access to your belongings.
Shield Technology Have you ever wanted to leave your bag somewhere for a few minutes? There is always the worry it won’t be there when you get back, and in some places, it probably won’t be. Luckily all Numinous backpacks have a Shield Protection Dual Combination Lock built into the pack. This has a

Anti-Puncture Technology Even if you’ve padlocked your bag before travelling, it is still not necessarily safe. Many zips can be punctured with nothing more than a pen, regardless of any locks you have closed them with. To ensure

TSA Accepted / Travel Sentry Approved Locks Numinous use TSA locks on all products, so your bag can be unlocked, inspected and relocked by security authorities without being damaged. This means it can be opened by the people who you want to access your bag, and your locks remain intact to keep your belongings protected from

HELPING TO SOLVE A PROBLEM 29
On average, each New Zealander buys and throws away 168 plastic water bottles every year. As it takes 450 years for a single plastic bottle to break down, this is a significant environmental hazard. Research conducted in 2012 showed that over 70% of the rubbish on New Zealand beaches is made of
plastic that has only been used once. Luckily, with Klean Kanteen, there is another way. By using a Klean Kanteen stainless steel drink bottle, you are helping reduce the amount of single-use plastic bottles. Buy a Klean Kanteen and help save the planet today!

FAQS
LEDLENSER WARRANTY
IN THIS ISSUE WE LOOK AT SOME OF THE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE LEDLENSER WARRANTY PROCESS. Is my Ledlenser product covered under warranty?
What does the warranty cover?
Ledlenser products have a 5 year worldwide warranty. If you are unsure whether the product returned to you is still within this warranty period, please give us a call.
The warranty covers manufacturing faults only, not general wear and tear.
Can I replace the product in store? No, you can’t sorry. We need the product back in order to do an assessment. My customer returned a counterfeit Ledlenser. Can I get Ledlenser parts to fix it? No. We only provide parts to fix genuine Ledlenser products. What happens if I return a product outside of warranty to you? 30
We can fix most products that are handheld torches or large headlamps (with plug-in cables) at a cost. This can be discussed with Grant after he has assessed the fault. My customer’s dog attacked my headlamp. Is this covered by warranty? While you may be surprised that people would even question this, we do have products sent back for warranty that have been subjected to activities outside the normal use of a torch or headlamp! Damage caused by dropping the product, dog bites, general misuse etc is not covered by warranty. Likewise, if the product is covered in dirt, concrete dust, cow dung etc we will not warranty the product. You really wouldn’t believe some of the things we have seen!
My customer’s batteries leaked inside their torch. Is this a warranty issue? Leaking batteries are not a warranty issue unless they were the original batteries supplied with the product and have been used as per the instructions (ie removed if product not used for a period of time). Please do not return a product if the batteries have been leaking. Who covers the cost of freight on warranty items? It is yours (or your customers) responsibility to get the product back to us. Assuming the product is under warranty and the fault is a manufacturing one, we will send the repaired or replacement item back with no freight charge. If the product only had flat batteries, you will be charged freight to get it back to you. If the product is counterfeit or outside the warranty period we will be in contact to advise you and give you the option of paying freight or waiting for it to be returned with your next order. The product is flashing and then turning off. What is going on? This is not a product fault – it is an indication that the batteries are too flat to operate on that power level. If still flashing with new batteries then it needs to be assessed.
Please note: We often get products returned that have nothing wrong with them except ‘user error’. Before returning a product for warranty, please check the following: The batteries are not flat The product is not in the wrong mode (eg professional mode, easy mode, defense mode) The transport lock is not on If you have any quesitons about a Ledlenser faulty product, please feel free to call Grant.

Staff profile: Grant Williams
Main roles at Tight Lines: Chief phone answerer, Ledlenser repairer extraordinaire. Favourite pastimes (outside of work): cycling, fishing and hunting. Walk into Grant’s office and most times you’re bound to see beams of light from torches and headlamps that have come back for warranty that he is testing. Our wonderful BFG (he is 6’3” and dwarfs most of the TL staff) has developed an in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of a Ledlenser product that the rest of us aspire to duplicate. His polite and friendly nature coupled with his product knowledge have led to many a time when, confronted with another Tight Lines staff member’s voice on the phone, customers choose to bypass that person and ask directly for Grant. Grant has been with Tight Lines for seven years, and came to us after working in retail. His favourite aspect of working at Tight Lines is interacting with people – he gets to speak to people from all over the country and sometimes even while on holiday pops in to meet them in person if he gets the chance.
