NIKKI >
Welcome to our fourth issue of Behind the Lines, the magazine we produce for you, our retailers.
We’ve had a busy six months in Napier. We’ve got three new exciting brands for you this summer – Luci Lanterns, OverBoard Waterproof products and High Trek walking poles. There’s also lots of new products coming from our other quality brands we proudly represent in NZ. We’ve focused this year on systems in our warehouse and hopefully you have seen our new repair and backorder systems which are designed to be not only more user-friendly for you but also much more
streamlined for us. On page 40 we talk about our new-look website and Retailer Portal System (your new online ordering system) which we have just finished. As part of redesigning our website we had staff photos taken. Check out page 22 for our debuts at modelling our products and enter our fun competition – where everyone wins a prize! We hope you enjoy reading this issue, and as always would love any feedback you have. Thanks very much for your continued support of Tight Lines and our brands. Have a great summer!

HIGH TREK
TATONKA TENTS
DOMEX COOKWARE
High quality walking poles
Now available in New Zealand
Created for New Zealanders
Designed in Finland, High Trek produces a range of quality walking poles that offer excellent value for money.
German brand Tatonka has been making tents that have set the standard in Europe for over 20 years. Now a range of tents is available in New Zealand.
We created the Domex Cookware range as we couldn’t find a suitable range of cookware products that satisfied all our requirements from a specifically New Zealand perspective. We wanted a cookware range that was lightweight and easy to clean, but also of high quality.
There are six poles in the range, with different retail price points from $39.95 for the 6061 aluminium poles (available in both a ski-grip or T-grip option) and $59.95 for 7075 grade aluminium poles (available with both a twist-lock or cam-lock option). There is also a folding pole that packs down to a compact 35cm and a lightweight carbon fibre pole. See page 26 for more details on the complete range.
>

ISSUE 04 - OCTOBER 2017
All Tatonka tents are fast pitching due to a “multi-pitch” setup, where the inner tent is attached to the fly sheet. If required, the inner tent and flysheet can be separated to make a lightweight bivvy, or to keep the inner tent dry when packing up. The tent floor is made of a tough 70 denier nylon, so there is no need for an extra groundsheet footprint on rough terrains. 2-year warranty. See page 16 for more information about the Tatonka tent range.
The Domex Cookware range includes a 4 piece anodised billy set, 4 piece anodised cook set, 6 piece billy set, meths burner and stand, stainless steel plates and mugs.

POWERTRAVELLER EXTREME UPGRADE

Compact NEW sleeping bags
The Extreme now houses a massive 12,000mAh lithium battery and is capable of charging both 5V and 12V devices. It now includes a bidirectional USB-C socket - meaning you can charge the very latest devices utilising USB-C charging.

LEDLENSER - NAMING SPONSOR FOR THE LEDLENSER ROTORUA NIGHT TRAIL RUN NIKWAX IS THE FIRST COMPANY TO BE CARBON BALANCED SINCE ITS FOUNDING
This popular off-road run/ walk event based in the Rotorua Redwood Forest took place on 16 September. Over 500 participants took part in the event this year, with options to run or walk either a half marathon or quarter marathon event.
Nikwax has recently celebrated their 40th birthday by becoming entirely carbon neutral. This means that not only are they offsetting their current carbon emissions (as they have done for many years) but they have now offset all the emissions they have ever been responsible for in their 40 years of business. Since being founded in 1987, Nikwax has produced high quality cleaning and waterproofing products that are free of propellant gases, toxins, and fluorocarbons. Around 10 years ago, they decided that they wanted to further reduce their environmental impact by decreasing their carbon, waste and water footprints. To offset any remaining carbon usage, they decided to plant trees, a process which is managed by an independent third party, the World Land Trust. We think it is great that by using Nikwax your customers can renew their gear AND reduce global warming.
As well as being naming sponsor, the Ledlenser brand was promoted through extensive media coverage including radio, event signage, social media and website promotion. The logo was also displayed on the finisher medals, and promotional emails were sent out to the 80,000+ Event Promotions database. This is all part of our aim to increase the brand awareness of Ledlenser products in the New Zealand outdoor arena.

BRIGHTENING UP THE WORLD OUR NEW BRAND OF LUCI INFLATABLE SOLAR LANTERNS COMES WITH SOME MASSIVE SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL POSITIVES. Lightweight, rechargeable, waterproof and eco-friendly, Luci Lanterns are the ideal outdoor product. But it is surprising to discover how much more there is to like about Luci Lanterns once you investigate a bit further. On the surface, Luci Lanterns are a fun, innovative product that solves the needs of people in the outdoors. Need reliable light in the backcountry without having to rely on batteries? Luci’s inflatable solar lights deliver it in spades.
The idea behind Luci Lanterns is simple – a solar panel built into the bottom of the lantern absorbs the sun's UV rays and stores it in a lithium battery (it will charge fully with 7-8 hours of sunlight). While it is being charged or while you are travelling, the lantern stays compressed in a compact package. Then, when you need to use it, simply inflate the lantern and switch on the bright LEDs to get the benefit of a clean, reliable source of light for hours. The appeal of Luci Lanterns isn’t just limited to trampers, campers, boaties and kayakers though. Because they are solar powered and therefore extremely safe, not to mention robust, Luci Lanterns make ideal outdoor lights for around home. And they are perfect for emergency kits too.

But the truly impressive side of Luci Lanterns only comes if you dig a little deeper. What sets Luci Lanterns apart from other brands is their commitment to helping people in developing countries. For many people around the world, a lack of affordable, convenient lighting is a daily challenge, not just something they face occasionally. This commitment can be seen in the company's mission statement on their website: “With Luci, we were aiming for something much bigger than convenience. We want to empower the lives of the 1.5 billion people living without electricity in developing countries. So we made a light that’s clean and safe – pretty much the opposite of the toxic and expensive kerosene lamps so many depend on – because life doesn’t stop after the sun goes down.” Their sustainable business model means that every purchase of a Luci Lantern in the developed world makes it more affordable for

people in the developing world. Also, their "Give Luci Program" partners with non-profit charities to deliver light where it is most needed. So by offering Luci Lanterns to your customers, you are not only providing them with affordable, portable, clean and easy light, you are also helping bring light to those who need it most.

tatonka tents German brand Tatonka has been making tents that have set the standard in Europe for over 20 years. This summer we are launching them into the New Zealand market.
16
Tatonka’s packs and outdoor products have quickly become a favourite amongst New Zealand hunters, with the Bison one of the most sought-after large packs. Tatonka’s tents are designed with the same focus on providing tough, high tech and high quality products at reasonable prices. “The Tatonka name is now synonymous with tough, excellent quality packs that are perfectly suited to New Zealand conditions. Our Facebook page is growing and getting some great feedback from Kiwis – particularly hunters” says Leanne McLeod, Tight Lines’ social media
expert. "Therefore it seems like a great time to introduce the tents.” All Tatonka tents are fast pitching due to a “multi-pitch” setup, where the inner tent is attached to the fly sheet. If required, the inner tent and fly sheet can be separated either to make a lightweight bivvy, or to keep
the inner tent dry when pitching or packing up in wet weather. The tent floor is made of a tough 70 denier nylon, so there is no need for an extra groundsheet footprint on rough terrains. This in turn eliminates extra gear that may need to be carried with other tent brands. The Tatonka tent range consists of tunnel tents, which of all the different tent shapes, make the best use of the available space. Tunnel tents also tend to be lighter for their size than other shaped tents. This allows plenty of room to sleep plus storage space. If they are erected correctly (with the narrow side into the wind), tunnel tents are also extremely stable in wind. “We’re seeing a real ground swell in Tatonka brand loyalty at the moment” Leanne concludes. “It’s great to now be able to offer those enthusiasts somewhere to sleep at night.” All tents come with Tatonka’s 2-year warranty.

the next generation sleeping bags designed by new zealanders for new zealanders

Nikki Goodall, Tight Lines' General Manager gives us some insights into the new range of Domex sleeping bags due November.
GREG DULEY IS ONE OF THE
Since purchasing the Domex brand in 2012, we have been continuously evaluating the range and looking at improving current designs as well as designing new bags to fit gaps in the New Zealand market. “Our focus is to ensure that the Domex range meets the requirements of the customers that walk through your doors and we understand that this is constantly evolving.” says Nikki Goodall, Tight Lines’ General Manager. “We believe that the 3 new bags we have added to the range this November reinforces this.”
YOU COULD EVER MEET.
The Halo was designed with a lot of input from Greg Duley (NZ Hunter Adventures) to be a lightweight, compact down bag that is capable of being warm above the snow-line in the Southern Alps. “Greg gave us the brief that he was looking for a really compact, lightweight bag. We experimented with various options before settling on the Halo, which weighs in at 1kg and is only 6 litres when in its cram sac” says Nikki. “He explained that for their use it didn’t need to have lots of fill, just high quality, high loft-power fill as they are more than happy to add extra clothing should the need arise.” WWW.TIGHTLINES.CO.NZ

The Nikwax waterproof-coated down also repels water should the bag get wet. “And as Greg suggested, it is possible to boost performance beyond the -10oC rating if you sleep in a down or Primaloft jacket inside the Halo,” Nikki explains. “We’ve also made the Halo 220cm long which is longer than our standard size – Greg is 6’4” and we had to accommodate him!”

THE SILVER FERN RANGE “Although the Bushmate has been a staple in Kiwis lives for years, we recognise the fact that many consumers now want smaller bags. The Silver Fern range is in response to this trend” says Nikki. “By adding Thermoshield (a silver reflective breathable layer designed to reflect body heat back) we were able to keep the warmth rating of the Bushmate but drastically reduce the volume.” “There are other bags on the market using similar technology but we knew we could improve the design and quality, which we believe we have done,” remarks Paul Stevens, Tight Lines’ South Island sales rep. “The Silver Ferns are compact sleeping bags ideal for anyone.” SILVER FERN 5 BELOW
SILVER FERN ZERO
The Silver Fern 5 Below combines the easy care utility of 7D-xcell synthetic fibre with an effective silver thermal barrier to produce a sleeping bag that is as warm as the Domex Bushmate (-5°C ), but is 25% lighter and 25% more compact.
A performance synthetic-fill sleeping bag ideal for 3-season back country use and adventure travel that is surprisingly compact for its 0°C comfort rating.
The new range of Domex bags are expected to arrive midNovember, and are part of our ongoing quest to keep the range relevant and stay true to the mantra ‘Sleeping bags designed by New Zealanders for New Zealanders’.

powertravEller Over the past few years a number of brands have come and gone in the portable solar charger market, but one brand that has stuck around is Powertraveller. Sales rep neil sutherland simplifies what can be a complicated category.
24
Powertraveller is a U.K. based company that manufactures an award-winning range of solar chargers and power banks which will keep your devices functioning when you are off the grid. Basically charge up at home first and then recharge anywhere (sun permitting).
This unit will charge all 5 and 12 volt devices that are designed to connect to a car cigarette lighter. The Extreme has a higher water resistance rating than the Adventurer, so if the customer is going sailing or kayaking, we recommend the Extreme.
Depending on the Powertraveller model, you can charge the batteries of SLR cameras, GoPros, laptops, tablets, phones, sat phones, GPS units and Ledlenser rechargeable torches and headlamps.
It's important when selling solar chargers of any brand to create a realistic expectation of product performance. It pays to point out that the product will work better in summer than winter because the sun is closer, that the best charging time is midday when the sun is overhead, and that they all work better if you point the panel directly at the sun as much as possible.
Our two most popular models are the Adventurer (RRP $199) and the Extreme (RRP $299). Both units are capable of daisy chain charging - that is both the Adventurer and Extreme are able to recharge their battery as well as simultaneously charge your device. Both are rugged units suitable for trampers, travellers and hunters. Compared to other brands, the solar panels are rugged enough to be able to charge "on the go" . ie the solar panel can be opened and strapped on to a backpack or kayak deck. Both panels have MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking), which increases efficiency when the light is getting lower or if the unit is not pointed directly at the sun.
The water-resistant Adventurer has an integrated 3500mAh battery behind one of the folding 3W solar panels, keeping the unit compact and lightweight. This will suit most people who want to charge up the usual 5V rechargeable devices like phones, GPS units, headlamps, torches and GoPros. The Extreme has a separate 12,000mAh battery pack (powerbank) and a folding 5W solar panel.

NEW
high trek INTRODUCING OUR NEW BRAND OF WALKING POLES We’re always looking for a chance to offer you and your customers new brands of outdoor products, so we’re excited to introduce our new brand of quality walking poles that offer a comprehensive range at a great price. 26
Designed in Finland, the range encompasses 6061 and 7075 aerospace-grade aluminium models as well as a carbon fibre model and our first folding pole. ENTRY LEVEL POLES
LIGHTWEIGHT POLE
STABILITY AND BALANCE
The range includes 2 entry level poles made from 6061 aircraftgrade aluminium and are available in both ski-grip (Wanderer) and T-grip (Expedition). These poles include an anti-shock system that provides stability and support as well as helping to ease stress on joints and the lower back.
The Altitude pole is High Trek’s top-ofthe-line carbon walking pole, made of 60% carbon fibre and 40% fibreglass. The carbon fibre construction helps keep the weight as minimal as possible without compromising on strength. Carbon fibre also helps to absorb vibrations and shock when walking, and the cam-lock system offers a nofuss solution to adjusting the pole. It features a comfortable EVA ski-grip.
As walking poles provide an extra point of contact with the ground, users are less likely to slip or fall. This is particularly helpful on tricky terrain and navigating around and over obstacles such as streams, river crossings or slippery rocks.
HIGHER TENSILE 7075 POLES
The mid-range poles are made of lightweight but durable 7075 aircraft-grade aluminium (higher tensile strength than the 6061 poles) and are available in both twist-lock (Explorer) and cam-lock (Adventurer). The cam-lock pole consists of 3 telescopic sections that lock solidly and securely into place quickly with the camlock adjustment system, which is particularly useful if the user has arthritis or if the pole is wet. >
BENEFITS OF USING WALKING POLES
WWW.TIGHTLINES.CO.NZ
FOLDING POLE
Finally, we have our first compact foldup pole (Nomad) which is extremely travel-friendly, packing down to just 35cm. Made of high-tensile 7075 aircraft-grade aluminium, it features a comfortable EVA ski-grip. ''From a retailers point of view, it's a solid and logical range. Each model has a reason to be there and it's easy to explain to consumers," says Neil Sutherland, Tight Lines' sales rep.
ISSUE 04 - OCTOBER 2017
A walking pole also helps to distribute some of the weight from your legs to your arms, making heavy loads easier to carry, as well as improving balance. SPEED
Walking poles can assist the user in moving faster by helping to create a rhythm with their hands moving in tandem with their feet. With each swing, arms are pushed back on the ground, propelling them forward with each step. This is particularly helpful when wanting to maintain momentum uphill.

STRENGTH AND FITNESS
With walking poles, hikers use upper body muscles they don’t ordinarily engage, like biceps, pectorals and triceps. Regularly engaging these muscles while swinging and placing the walking poles can strengthen these muscles. When used correctly walking poles can significantly increase your pace which has additional health benefits through increased heart rate and oxygen uptake without expending a lot more energy. REDUCED STRESS ON JOINTS
Walking poles help to reduce injury and stress on joints, such as the ankles, knees, and hips, by transferring weight to other parts of the body. >

OVERBOARD A chance meeting in a restaurant led to Tight Lines taking on our newest brand, Overboard Waterproof products. After a long day at the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City, General Manager Nikki Goodall was having dinner when she met Dan, the owner and developer of OverBoard. As we have been looking for a range of waterproof products for some time her interest was piqued, and after seeing the product range, she was convinced. THE STORY BEHIND OVERBOARD… It all began on the beaches of Thailand and Australia - back in 2006. Having been friends since uni, Dan and Joel had quit the rat-race and slipped on their jandals to spend six months on an epic beach, boat, surf and scuba holiday. For weeks they fought to keep their technology, valuables and clothes safe from the impact of water and sand. And finally the light dawned – what they needed was a totally trustworthy waterproof bag that guaranteed them peace of mind without

slowing them down. More than that, if this was their need, it had to be true for thousands of others too. Back home, even before their tans had faded, they were researching, designing, innovating and producing their first prototypes – the perfect dry bags. And they became the first OverBoard products. The response from friends, family and a growing band of highly satisfied customers spurred them on and so the range had to grow. More colours, sizes and solutions emerged to protect everything from phones and iPads to emergency supplies – from the ravages of water, snow, dirt and sand. Fast forward and today they are leaders in waterproof bags and cases, with customers and distributors in over 70 countries.

“The Dan and Joel commitment has been simple – to combine good looking, high quality value-for-money gear with 100% waterproof protection.”
31
SO WHY CHOOSE OVERBOARD? Many of us may associate ‘waterproof’ with ‘underwater’. Therefore, the need to have 100% waterproof protection for our gear may not seem very necessary. However, even light rain can potentially damage items which can be inconvenient or even very costly. OverBoard products provide peace of mind – no matter what situation you encounter you can be sure that your gear will remain dry, plus sand and dust-free.
The products are very functional, highly featured, rugged, dependable and of course 100% waterproof. All products are tested in the factory so you can be confident of the quality plus they are also constantly tested in the field too, so you can be assured of the usability. The starting range in New Zealand includes waterproof backpacks, duffels and dry bags.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT LEDLENSER'S...
outdoor series Since the introduction of Ledlenser’s Outdoor Series torches and headlamps, we have received lots of reviews... We are excited to report that knowledgeable hunters are finding the range just as impressive as we are! HEADLAMPS
On the flood beam setting with full power, the MH10 makes navigating at night a breeze”. “Literally it was night and day compared to my companions’ headlamps.”
32
The MH10 lit it up like daylight. Walking around on the tops at night was also a breeze, and the ability to focus the beam tightly was a godsend when assessing steep country ahead. NZ Hunter Magazine (April/May 2017)
“A lot of R&D has gone into this product and this definitely delivers out in the field. You get extremely bright usable light output from a featherweight package together with exceptional charging speeds for such long run times. Rod&Rifle (June/July 2017)
The benchmark just got raised higher… the margin between the nearest competitor and the incumbent market leader just increased with the introduction of the MH10.” “Can’t report a single fault, only the exceptional performance outdoors people have come to expect from this company and then some.” “At 600 lumens it pumps out some impressive light for such a lightweight unit (less than 160g) – the beam ranging out to an impressive 150-plus metres! Fish and Game (Issue 96)
TORCHES
The MT18 is the Big Daddy of the new range, with three of the LED bulbs as used in the other models… if you’re after more power then this is the way to go. The MT10 and MT14 are incredibly easy to use with the accessories and make solo spotlighting a breeze. We liked the MT14 torch the best out of the lot for spotlighting. It’s only 100g heavier than the MT10 but provides 50% more battery life on full power. NZ Hunter Magazine (Aug/Sept)
The MT14 is an excellent piece of equipment that is hard to fault and will get a lot of use over the coming years for spotlighting, fishing, hunting, camping and all round general use.” One superb feature that really caught my eye and is extremely handy, is the ability to lock the unit so it does not turn on in your pack. This is a lifesaver. NZ Outdoor Hunting (June/July)
Please note: due to Ledlenser channel segmentation rules the Outdoor Series is not available to all retail customers. >

Christmas Presents for kids Who gets the most money spent on them at Christmas? The kids, of course! Therefore, gifts for kids should be a major focus for any retailer. With parents increasingly concerned with the amount of time their kids are spending inside using technology, why not encourage your customers to consider gifts that will get their kids into the outdoors! We have a range of products that will not only encourage kids to get outside, but are also high quality, so will last longer than just until Boxing Day…
OUR RECOMMENDATIONS: Leatherman Leap The first Leatherman tool designed specifically for kids, the Leap has 12 useful tools including pliers, a saw, springaction scissors and screwdrivers. Because it’s made for kids, the Leap was designed with safety at the forefront with features such as built-in safety locks to prevent little fingers from being in the path of the tools and ergo grip handles designed to encourage the operation of the blades away from the user. A great product for parents who want to teach their children how to use tools safely and responsibly. For ages 9 and up.
Ledlenser NEO range The NEO is the perfect headlamp for kids as it is incredibly lightweight but still bright enough for any outdoor adventure. Suitable for walking, tramping, reading, running around in the backyard or any other activity after dark. It comes in 5 bright colours that kids will love: blue, pink, yellow, green and orange.
Tatonka kids' bags Tatonka kids' bags are great for day tramps, but also make sturdy school bags. The Joboo, Alpine Junior and Alpine Teen are also extremely comfortable due to the padded back carrying system and have different compartments for ease of storage and finding things. The kids' bags are covered by the Tatonka 2-year warranty, but our staff have found that their children’s school bags are still going strong after 5 years with no sign of wear or tear.
33
Ogo products Ogo (short for “Oh Go Outside”) products are specifically designed to encourage people to go outside and play. The company and its flagship Ogo Disk flying disk have won numerous awards for their range of safe, quality products that are fun for everyone, from young children to grandparents. You can use the Ogo Disk hand trampoline to throw, catch and bounce plus for summer fun you can try it in the pool with water balloons. Even better is that batteries are not required!

MY FAVOURITE PRODUCT
NIKWAX WATERPROOFING RANGE
Tight lines' sales rep neil sutherland puts nikwax products to the test
36
Using Nikwax on Footwear Nikwax have a comprehensive range of proofers for all types of footwear. Like the clothing waterproofers, not only will Nikwax waterproof your footwear but it will allow it to BREATHE. There is a another bonus: Nikwax footwear products should be applied to a WET boot/ shoe - unlike almost all other proofers on the market. This means cleaning and proofing your footwear is ONE operation not two. What a timesaver!!! Remember, when cleaning your boots with a brush and water you also have the option of using liquid Nikwax Cleaning Gel. While not necessary every time you clean your boots, it will lengthen the life of your boots by killing bacteria in the leather. Definitely use it if your boots are used on a farm.
>
WWW.TIGHTLINES.CO.NZ
If you are breaking in new boots or trying to resurrect some neglected boots, use liquid Nikwax Leather Conditioner. This is a leather softener and it should only be used twice a year at most. To waterproof a boot/shoe that's mainly suede or nubuck leather, use liquid Nikwax Nubuck/Suede Proof. For a boot that has nylon and suede panels use liquid Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof. I recommend you put 2 coats on any suede, as suede is so fibrous it has a large surface area, therefore 2 coats are needed to ensure you have not missed any part. Make sure the boots are wet before applying it.
ISSUE 04 - OCTOBER 2017
If you prefer an old school option, the Nikwax Tube of Waterproofing Wax for Leather for full grain leather will be familiar to a lot of people. It's best applied with your index finger - don't worry about using a cloth. And yes, even this product can be applied to a wet boot!

Using Nikwax on Waterproof Clothing As an active skier, biker and tramper, waterproof clothing is an important part of my gear. But waterproof clothing needs to be maintained if it's to perform in the same manner as when it was new. Specifically it needs to be washed to keep the waterproof/breathable membrane functioning properly and it needs to have the fabric's outer Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating retreated to ensure maximum breathability. If your garment is over a year old then the DWR coating is likely to need restoration. Nikwax Tech Wash followed by Nikwax TX-Direct is my choice of product for this purpose. To achieve the best results I use my front loading washing machine. If there are any stains, I pre-treat with Johnson's Shout. Then I use 100ml of Tech Wash to clean the garment on the 30 minute wash cycle with the temperature set at 30 degrees, which also uses a slow spin of 800 revs. At the end of the cycle I repeat the process for another 30 minutes, but with 100ml TX Direct Wash-In proofer in the soap dispenser. TX Direct will revive the DWR coating. After 60 minutes: job done. I simply hang the garment up to dry. No need to use a clothes dryer as Nikwax does not need "heat setting". There are also no nasty PFCs (Flurocarbons) in Nikwax. Please note: You do not have to re-treat the DWR with every wash. Depending on the washing machine the DWR will last 2-4 washes if you just use Tech Wash.
37
• 150ml of Tech Wash is needed for top loading machines and if you cannot set the temperature accurately then use a cold wash temp. • If you would rather use the TX Direct Spray instead of the Wash-in, it's important to spray immediately after washing while the garment is still wet, and make sure you have not missed any parts of the fabric.
WITH NIKWAX FOOTWEAR PRODUCTS, CLEANING AND PROOFING YOUR FOOTWEAR IS ONE OPERATION NOT TWO. WHAT A TIMESAVER!

FAQS COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT LEDLENSER
GENERAL WARRANTY QUESTIONS
Can I buy replacement parts for my customer's torch if the problem is not a manufacturing one? You can purchase spare parts. However you must let us know the serial number of the torch before we can send them out as we only provide parts to fix genuine Ledlenser products.
I have sent an item to Tight Lines but have forgotten to put a note who it was from. Will you still have it?
Are leaking batteries a warranty issue? Ledlenser’s warranty does not cover damage from battery leakage. However, many of the brand name battery manufacturers do warrant their batteries and the devices powered by them. We can fix most handheld lights that have been affected by battery corrosion at a cost, but we need the product back to do a proper assessment first. My H7 has been replaced with an H6. Is this a mistake? If the original model is no longer available, your warrantied product will be replaced with a model we deem to be the closest equivalent. In this case, the H7 has the same specs as the new H6. 42
What are my options if I send in a faulty Ledlenser that is out of warranty? If we assess your product and find that it is out of warranty or doesn’t meet our warranty criteria we will let you know via email. You will either be given a quote for repair, told your product cannot be fixed or offered a replacement model at a discounted price. Please let us know if there is a specific email address you would like us to send warranty emails to as we are currently using your default shop email address. How come my replacement model has been sent back in a clear plastic bag instead of a box? With our new warranty procedure, all warranties are sent back how we received them. If your customer has sent back a charger and the torch, we will only send a charger and a torch back. We are also trying to avoid retailers replacing items from shop stock. In non-rechargeable models, please remove batteries before sending to us. If products are sent back to us with alkaline batteries, they will not be returned.
With our new warranty system, all packages are opened and put into small boxes for sorting. If an item is sent back with no note explaining the fault, or no return address, we will put it aside until we hear from you. I haven’t received my warranty back and it has been longer than a week? If you haven’t received your warranty back within a week one of the following should have happened. •
We have emailed you saying the product was out of warranty and can’t be fixed or we have emailed you saying it can be fixed at a cost – please check your email before calling us.
•
We have received the item but it has no note or return address – if you believe you may have forgotten to put a note in please give us a call.
•
The replacement item is out of stock – if this is the case we would have rung your shop and let someone know when the product is due in.
•
We haven’t received it – please track the item before calling us. If it has been delivered and signed for, give us a call.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT LEATHERMAN Can you send out replacement bits for my customer's Leatherman tool rather than sending the whole tool back? Leatherman send us refurbished tools instead of individual parts. If your customer has a broken Leatherman it will most likely be replaced under warranty. If the tool has sentimental value to your customer or is engraved please let us know and we will try to fix it on site (instead of replacing it). If we can’t do this we can send the tool back to the factory in Oregon USA for repair – please note freight costs may apply.
NEW LEDLENSER WARRANTY BOOKLET We have created A NEW Ledlenser Retailer Warranty Handbook to help you navigate the Ledlenser warranty process. We are hopeful this new handbook will save you time and money, as you will be able to provide an initial assessment on products that are returned to you for warranty. If you have any questions on the content, or feel that we have missed something, please let us know. >

Staff profiles: our sales team We’re very lucky to have three knowledgeable, professional and of course nice guys representing us throughout New Zealand in the outdoor market. We have meetings with our reps in the warehouse every four weeks where they descend and share news from what’s happening in the market plus help us develop new products. A highlight of these meetings is a visit to the local pub for a quiz night, where each reps’ behaviour offers an interesting insight into their personalities Here’s a little bit more information on them. NAME: PAUL STEVENS
Territory covered: South Island
Our longest serving staff member, Paul was a commission agent for Tight Lines for 20 years before as he jokes “they finally felt my apprenticeship was complete.” Despite celebrating a significant birthday in April this year when the government gave him a pay rise, don’t expect Paul to be talking the ‘R’ word for a while yet. In fact, he has previously suggested that he was happy to visit his customers with a Zimmerframe!
Years with Tight Lines: 29 Favourite pastimes outside of work: catching up with friends, going on walks, water skiing, boating and home handyman projects Favourite part of his job: meeting with all his great customers
Quiz insight: unlike the rest of us, Paul is not really fussed on quizzes, saying he comes for the beer and company. Paul is also our joker in the group – our However he always manages to chip in latest treat was to see him squash into one with answers no-one else knows (his of the new Dock & Bay kid’s ponchos! most recent – he was the only one who knew what day the pension is paid!) His background in textiles and years of experience have been instrumental in helping us develop new products, the Domex range in particular.
NAME: NEIL SUTHERLAND Armed with the experience of owning outdoor retail stores before joining Tight Lines, Neil brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. He has been a big driving force behind the Tatonka brand and is the go-to guy for any research we need done and any diagrams we need drawn. Known for his straight talking, we are assured that if he says he likes a product, he really thinks it’s a good one!
Territory covered: Lower North Island, Northland & North Auckland

Years with Tight Lines: 7 Favourite pastimes outside of work: catching up with family and friends, skiing and riding his bike in the summer Favourite part of his job: catching up with customers and research Quiz insight: Neil is infamous for his answers getting louder and louder as the night wears on (something to do with beer rather than tiredness)
NAME: BEN STAESSENS Our newest sales rep, Ben injects a bit of youth into the trio as well as a lot of experience after managing retail stores. Despite having to juggle his time on the road with his busy home life (he has 3 young children), Ben is rarely without a smile and his positivity is infectious. Ben’s experience selling and using products is invaluable – at the moment he is leading our next project that hopefully NZ hunters will benefit from sometime in 2018.
Territory covered: BOP, Waikato, Auckland, East Coast Years with Tight Lines: 3 Favourite pastimes outside of work: hunting, fishing, eating good food and drinking good wine Favourite part of his job: visiting his diverse range of customers Quiz insight: Ben is our pop-culture expert - we are sometimes a little disturbed by what he knows but he attributes it to hours spent in the car listening to the radio plus having young children.
