TATONKA TENTS German brand Tatonka have been making tents that have set the standard in Europe for over 20 years. Now they are available in New Zealand. Tatonka’s packs and outdoor products have become a favourite amongst New Zealand hunters and Tatonka’s tents are designed with the same focus on providing tough, high tech and high quality products at reasonable prices. All Tatonka tents are fast pitching due to a “multi-pitch” setup, where the inner tent is attached to the fly sheet making it faster to pitch and take down, which is particularly useful in bad weather. If required, the inner tent and flysheet can be separated and the flysheet and poles can be pitched to make a lightweight Bivvy. If the tent has been left up in the rain and you wish to break camp, its possible to remove the inner tent first (keeping it dry) before taking down the fly and poles. The tent floor is made of a tough 70 denier nylon, so it can withstand rough terrains. We offer tunnel tents in two different lines: EXPERT The Expert tents are made from materials that are particularly tear-resistant, strong, extremely durable and ultra lightweight. This range is recommended for people who hunt and tramp often. Perfect for alpine conditions as the tents can handle the extreme weather conditions that may be encountered. Flys are made of waterproof nylon 6 with five coats of silicone. Poles are all made of scandium (20% stronger, 30% lighter than aluminium). Models: Kyrkja, Kiruna, Okisba, Orbit 3
ALLROUND The Allround tents are light and sturdy, and are perfect for camping where space and comfort is the priority. Flys are made of waterproof PU coated polyester. Poles are all made of T6 aluminium. Models: Koli, Narvik 2, Narvik 3, Groenland 2, Groenland 3 All Tatonka tents have a 2-year warranty.

TATONKA TENT COMPONENTRY VESTIBULE
MOSQUITO WINDOWS
A vestibule is a storage area between the inner tent and entrance where you can keep your gear. It is a clean, dry place for anything that you don’t want to keep in the inner tent. A floor is an optional extra for this area.
The entrances to the Tatonka inner tents have mosquito windows that close separately, and can be kept in a pocket on the side. They can also be used to provide additional ventilation.
FRAMES
INNER TENT POCKETS
It is essential that the tent frames are of the highest possible quality. Tatonka uses YUNAN tent frames because this manufacturer cares about sustainability as much as quality. YUNAN provides frames in two different aluminium alloys; 7001/T6 anodised aluminium for the Allround Series and scandium light aluminium for the Expert Series. Both are hard to break and hollow on the inside. They are connected by rubber bands so they fit together easily.
Inner tent pockets at head height (when lying down) are perfect for storing items such as reading glasses. Lots of models also have pockets at the foot end that are easy to reach when upright.
SIDE ENTRANCES The side entrances are very well reinforced, and fitted with spacer webbing. This makes it easy to secure the entrances to the desired width. GUY ROPES Guy ropes will secure your tent against wind and weather. Tatonka tents have a roll-up device for guy ropes that makes it much easier to set them up and prevents knots.
WATER COLUMN (WATERPROOFING) The water column indicates how high the water pressure can be before the fabric starts to allow moisture through. According to the DIN standard, a figure of 1,500 mm is considered waterproof. FLOOR CONSTRUCTION The corners of the floor trays have no seams, which means they are 100% waterproof. They are ‘tub’ floors. FRAME CHANNELS The frame channels are particularly flat, have double seams and are sealed. This reduces the area that is exposed to the wind, and facilitates the direct transfer of the frame tension to the outer tent making the tent more stable in high winds.
For greater visibility in the dark, the ropes on the Allround Series are identified by reflective sleeves, while on the Expert SEAMS lines the whole rope is reflective. TENSION POINTS The fixation points for the guy ropes on the Expert tents are made from highly tear-resistant Hypalon. VENTS Vents are covered openings in the outer membrane of the tent that allow the air to circulate. The vents on Tatonka tents are waterproof, and thanks to the strong fabric tape, remain easy to set up for an extended period. All Tatonka tents have plenty of vents for optimum air circulation. The vents on the Expert Series tents can even be secured on the inside.

The main seams on Tatonka tents are all lap-felled seams (stitched through four layers of fabric). The outer seams of the tents in the Allround Series are thermally sealed with elastic thread, which makes them waterproof. Hard-working areas are backed with a double layer of fabric and reinforced in zigzag stitch or with sealed seams. ZIP COVERS The zips of the outer tents have additional sewn-on covers to protect them against dust and rain and the seams are sealed. ENTRANCE ZIPS The bottom end of the zip is reinforced with a dome closure, which prevents the zip from being opened inadvertently.

TENT MATERIALS 7001/T6 aluminium 9.5 mm Ø ALLROUND The anodised tent frames in the 7001 aluminium alloy in hardness T6 combines high tensile strength* with high yield**.
Scandium light 8.6 mm Ø EXPERT Very lightweight and strong tent frame for Tatonka’s Expert tent Line. By utilising scandium the standard frames increases the tensile strength by 20%, reduces the weight by 30% and increases yield strength by 8%. A hard, smooth surface coating improves durability and handling. 75 denier polyester 185T PU (100% polyester) ALLROUND FLYSHEET The flysheet material has four layers of PU coating on the inside (water column 8,000 mm). It has proven to be UV resistant and colourfast. Because the fabric does not absorb water, it will not stretch when damp or wet.
30 denier nylon 6.6 ripstop 250T Si (100% polyamide) EXPERT FLYSHEET A highly tear-proof, lightweight tent fabric used in Tatonka’s Expert Series. The material’s excellent properties are due to the very high quality of the basic material (6.6 ripstop nylon), which is reinforced with several layers of a silicone coating (3 on the outside, 2 on the inside) which makes it almost impossible to tear this wafer-thin material with your bare hands! 100% waterrepellent, as both sides are silicone-coated; 1,500 mm water column. 70 denier nylon ripstop 190T WR (100% polyamide) ALLROUND INNER The water-repellent (WR) fabric in 70 denier nylon is particularly airpermeable. The stronger threads running horizontally and vertically (ripstop) increase the fabric’s tear resistance, which makes it ideal for inner tents.
30 denier nylon ripstop 245T WR (100% polyamide) EXPERT INNER With a lightweight, air-permeable, water-repellent finish, the 30 denier nylon ripstop material is the perfect inner tent material for the Expert Series.
70 denier nylon taffeta 190T PU (100% polyamide) TENT FLOOR - ALL MODELS This is a tightly and finely woven material for very light tent floos. Quadruple PU-coated, with a 10,000 mm water column rating. It is designed to withstand rough terrains.

Tatonka Ground Sheets Tatonka ground sheets protect the base of the tent from damage caused by stones, branches and other items. They also reduce dampness from the rain and cold. When choosing a ground sheet, always remember that the ground sheet should not be larger than the erected outer tent in order to avoid the “funnel effect�. All ground sheets have eyelets at the corners for the option of fixation.
