• Biophilic Design: Biophilic design is a building design concept that aims to connect people with nature in their built environment. It’s based on the idea that people are connected to nature and that connecting with nature can improve health and well-being.

• Net Zero Energy (NZE): A Net Zero Energy building is one where the total amount of energy consumed equals the total amount of renewable energy produced on site, including solar panels, heat pumps, heat recovery systems, high efficiency windows, insulation etc.

• Off Gassing: Off-gassing is the process by which chemicals, gasses, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released from materials into the air. • Formaldehyde: Formaldehyde is a colorless, flammable chemical with a strong odor that’s used in many products and processes According to the CDC formaldehyde is a highly toxic systemic poison; it is also a carcinogen.

• FSC: Forest Stewardship Council, is an international non-governmental organization that sets standards for responsible forest management which are environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable. A FSC certified product is made from sustainable forest-based materials from sources that adhere to this gold standard. Only FSC certified wood/forest products were used in this house.

• HRV: Heat Recovery Ventilation. This house has a HRV system, which is an energy-efficient ventilation device that improves indoor air quality and comfort by exchanging stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air. The heat from the stale air is used to pre-heat the incoming cooler air.
