Rainy Day

RAINY DAY - THE INSIDER’S AGENDA The “Garden Island” of Kaua‘i wouldn’t be as green, its soil as fertile, if it weren’t for a few tropical rain showers every now and again. Sometimes throwing on your flip flops and a light jacket is the most energizing change of pace, reminding us all that you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain. At Timbers Kaua‘i, we’ve put together such an exciting list of inside activities that your rainy day in Kaua‘i might just be your favorite.

MUSEUMS Old Koloa Town Historical Center - learn about the island’s rich historical past as Hawaii’s first sugar plantation by examining artifacts, photographs and memoirs. A few others we recommend: Grove Farm Homestead & Sugar Plantation Museum, Kaua‘i Museum and Kōke‘e Natural History Museum.

SHOPPING Poʻipū is chock-full of amazing boutiques, shops and clothing stores. From the shops along Old Koloa Town to the Poʻipū Shopping Center and The Shops at Kukuiula, shoppers can find some of Kaua‘i’s best jewelry, clothing, artwork and local souvenirs. Don’t miss the local’s favorite t-shirt shop, Aloha Exchange.

CULINARY MASTER CLASS Head to the kitchen for a cooking experience with one of our Chefs at our Culinary Masters Class. We welcome all skill levels, from the curious beginner cooks to advanced home chefs.

THE SPA AT TIMBERS KAUA‘I Escape the rain by treating yourself to a day at our island-inspired Spa. The Spa weaves ancient healing traditions with the bounty of island botanicals to inspire “lōkahi” – harmony of body and spirit. Our knowledgeable staff can help customize your massage, wraps and facials.

SCAVENGER HUNT Hōkūala has many treasures, and some are trickier to find than others… Embark on the Timbers Kaua‘i scavenger hunt, follow clues to find hidden treasures, natural features and even endangered species around the resort. Perhaps you’ll find the golden gecko crawling by the pool, or the hula dancer hanging by the Keiki club. Discover them all and you’ll be rewarded with the Hōkūala star.

GO HIKING IN A SWAMP If you don’t mind getting muddy, the Alaka‘i swamp in Kōkeʻe is perfect for families who still want to get outdoors despite the rain. A total of eight miles round trip, the trail empties onto amazing views of Hanalei.

CULTURAL PROGRAMMING Immerse yourself in Hawaiian culture by taking part in our cultural programming. Discover the fascinating origins and different types of leis with our one-of-a-kind Lei Making class. Join staff members as they “talkstory”; the local tradition of sharing stories and fond memories of their time on-island. Dance like no one is watching in Hula class. Ukulele Lessons are a great way to connect with our resident musician as he shares his favorite tricks in a light-hearted traditional Uke jam. Play traditional Hawaiian games such as Konane with your friends and family. Learn the ancient tradition of Lauhala Weaving from one of our local Lauhala Kumu‘s and create a memorable souvenir.

WESTERN EXPLORATION If all else fails, check with our concierge on conditions and head West! Here visitors can find towns like historic Waimea (where Captain James Cook first landed), Kekaha and the world-famous Polihale Beach. Deemed one of the most secluded beaches in the world, Polihale is made up of several miles of white sand coastline with only a handful of daily visitors. Take the dirt road out, you won’t be sorry.

KAUA‘I ESCAPE ROOM Looking for a fun, live action game? The Kaua‘i Escape Room is the first and only live action puzzle game on Kaua‘i. Enter a room with your group, find clues and solve puzzles to unravel the mysteries of the room and escape within a set time limit.
