Letter from the Chairman and President As Coweta County faces its share of the current global economic challenge, area businesses are looking for ways to operate more efficiently, plan more effectively, and identify opportunities that often emerge in “down” times. How well our businesses fare has a direct impact on how Coweta County as a whole weathers this challenging period. Fortunately, Coweta businesses have a strong resource at the ready to supply the networking opportunities, training, and advocacy that can help them survive and thrive in almost any economy — the NewnanCoweta Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is a central resource for some of the best thinking about business operations, economic development, and community building from local and national experts. When businesses are engaged in the Chamber, they’re part of a powerful engine for maintaining and improving the quality of life for all Coweta residents. So, as you look ahead into 2009 and beyond, we encourage you to “Think Chamber” — as a partner for your business success and as an asset for our entire community. We’re a great resource, and we’re committed to serving Coweta County. Together, we’ve got what it takes to succeed in 2009 and enjoy economic prosperity far into the future. Why Your Chamber Should Be Top-of-Mind Our Mission Promote an environment in which Chamber members and the community can realize economic prosperity.

How we make a difference By delivering valuable services to our members that keep them informed and connected to our community n By setting high standards and cultivating strong leadership inside and outside the Chamber n By supporting economic development in Coweta County n By advocating for Coweta County in the region and at the state level n

How will YOU ‘Think Chamber’? Most of us here in Coweta County benefit in some way from the Chamber of Commerce, even if we don’t realize it. When you go into your favorite restaurant, bookstore or boutique, look and see if you can find a Chamber of Commerce member decal. If you see one, it likely means that the business you choose to do business with is one that cares a great deal about our community and wants to see our county grow and prosper in a way that’s wise and wellthought-out. That Chamber member logo also indicates that the business you visit is most likely led by people who understand that there is a strong connection between what is best for the community at large and what is best for the businesses that thrive there. In other words, when you patronize a business that is a member of the NewnanCoweta Chamber of Commerce, you’re taking part in a team effort of community support that is much broader than what you may see. Chamber Members know that we’re all in this economy together — and they wouldn’t have it any other way. If you have a business that is not a member of the Chamber,

I heartily invite you to join us in 2009. And as you make choices each day about the businesses you visit, I encourage you to “Think Chamber.” It’s a great way to support this community we all share! Jan Alligood Georgia Power Company 2009 Chamber Chair

Why businesses think we’re a smart investment Simply put, the Chamber helps businesses become more prosperous. Our programs, information sharing, coalition-building, advocacy and networking opportunities are unequalled in Coweta County. The Chamber is the only local, comprehensive, one-stop resource for growing a business, spurring individual careers, and contributing to the overall economic prosperity and well-being of our community.

2008 Chamber Annual Report — The Times-Herald — 9

‘Think Chamber’ for Coweta’s Economy In 2008, the economy was at the forefront for everyone, including the Chamber of Commerce. We helped local businesses and policymakers share information about shortterm economic conditions while keeping a focus on our county’s long-term economic potential.

Addressing the Needs of Local Businesses The Chamber’s series of Industry Roundtables, held throughout 2008, brought representatives together to discuss current challenges, advantages to doing business in Coweta County, and their concerns and hopes for the future. Roundtable groups included financial services, “big-box” retail, independent retail, hospitality, real estate, manufacturing and healthcare. While all groups shared concerns about the economy, they were also extremely positive about the nature of consumers in Coweta County and the relationships they formed with residents. Participants were also interested in pursuing responsible, well-planned development to accommodate Coweta’s growth. The executive summary is available at www.newnancowetachamber.org.

Understanding Coweta’s Economic Potential To be good stewards of our economy, we must understand our assets, our challenges, and — most importantly — our potential. In October, the Chamber hosted an Economic Summit, featuring William H. Fruth, an economist from POLICOM Corporation. Mr. Fruth shared data he collected about the Coweta County economy and how it compared to other areas in the state and the nation. He also shared recommendations about how Coweta County can successfully grow its economy. (His presentation is available on the Chamber website. The POLICOM study was sponsored by Atlanta Gas Light, AT&T, Coweta-Fayette EMC, Georgia Power and Newnan Utilities.

Creating Marketing Opportunities for Members The Chamber always looks for ways to help members increase their potential for marketing their businesses. In

2008, we introduced a particularly effective tool via the Chamber website — an online marketplace where members can communicate directly with one another about their products and services. The new feature also includes a jobs listing, where members can

find qualified employees to help grow their businesses. And as always, the Chamber provided unparalleled networking opportunities for businesses of all sizes, as described throughout this report. The Chamber plays a leader-

ship role for Coweta businesses and residents on many fronts. Whether you’re passionate about long-range planning for economic growth, or want immediate access to the people and tools that help businesses succeed, it pays to “Think Chamber!”
