Heart-warming Winter Dishes FAMILY FEATURES

t can be difficult to get a wholesome, homemade meal on your family table, day in and day out. But the solution for simple, delicious dishes is a lot closer than you think: the canned foods in your pantry. With a well-stocked pantry full of ingredients like canned tomatoes, kidney beans and pumpkin, preparing a nutritious, creative meal that your family will love is easy. Because cans seal in foods’ nutrition, freshness and flavor, they are one of the best ways to get food from its source to your table. Canned foods not only mean less preparation, but they also ensure that you have quality ingredients on-hand year-round — especially during the winter months. As temperatures fall and your to-do list grows, don’t let your packed schedule compromise sharing a heart-warming, homemade meal with your family. Simply reach in your pantry — your “Cantry” —
The first baby to be born in 2016 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital arrived earlier than mom, Ramonda Sinkfield, expected. Weighing 6 pounds, 5 ounces, and measured at 19 inches long, Aaliyah LaShay Cook entered the world at 4:48 p.m. on Jan. 1 though the baby girl wasn’t meant to arrive for another two weeks. “I was surprised when I started having contractions, and went into labor,” explained Sinkfield. “She wasn’t due until Jan. 12, but she had a plan of her own.” The newborn was delivered by Dr. Ada Kagumba of Piedmont Obstetrics and Gynecology. As the mother of the first baby born in 2016 at the local hospital, Sinkfield was presented with a free photo package worth $145 from Bella Baby Photography, free Chick-fil-A for one year from Newnan Chick-fil-A Dwarf House, a gift basket valued at $50 from Babies R Us in Newnan, and a $25 gift card from Piedmont Plus Federal Credit Union. “I am so blessed to have a beautiful and healthy baby girl,” Sinkfield said. “And, I am thankful for the great care I received from all of the nurses and doctors making it an easy delivery.” Mom and baby were released from the hospital, and both are said to be doing well. Piedmont Newnan Hospital delivers nearly 1,200 babies each year.
