Another Piedmont Newnan preemie has left the care of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the comforts of home. Micropreemie William Henderson, the earliest in gestation to be born at the local hospital at just 23 weeks, was released Jan. 26 after 98 days in the unit. “William has adapted remarkably well to being home,” said mother, Kellie Henderson. “He is continuing to grow and is now up to 5 pounds, 9 ounces.” The infant, dubbed “Sir William” by Piedmont’s NICU staff, arrived

The Miller family of Newnan has welcomed two of their four infants home after more than two months of neonatal intensive care at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Kortney and Justin Miller’s daughter and three sons were the first quadruplets to be born at the local hospital, and their progress is being cheered on by locals throughout the county. “Brandon, or ‘Baby A,’ was able to come home Jan. 27,” Kortney Miller said. “And, Kenlee, our only girl, is also home now.” The Women’s Services staff at Piedmont Newnan was notified of the expected quadruplets just after Miller reached her second trimester of

Run for Angels celebrates 15 years

Hundreds of locals came together on Feb. 4 in support of Angel’s House, a shelter for girls saved from situations of abuse and neglect. The organization hosted its largest annual fundraiser, the Run for Angels & Chicken Q , in downtown Newnan. This was the 15th year for the event. The event included a onemile run, 5K and 10K road races and a plated barbecued

chicken lunch for purchase. Money raised goes to help keep the local safe haven open and available for children in need throughout the year, according to coordinator Bambi Edge. “It was cold but warmed up quickly, of course,” said 5K participant and Newnan TimesHerald employee Bronwyn Coffeen-Mercer. “I really enjoyed the course for the 5K, which included challenging inclines and a beautiful view of downtown Newnan.” Races were professionally

ma naged by Orion R aci ng using chip-timing technology to ensure accurate finish times, which can be used to qualify for the popular Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. The run was held in conjunction with the Chicken Q , which was hosted by the First United Methodist Church of Newnan. Huckleberry’s Catering & BBQ provided plates of food served to race participants as well as community members, all benefitting Angel’s House. 1 Xtra front

Many families have different traditions they look forward to each holiday season, and the Ridley family in Newnan looks forward to their annual display of hundreds of snowmen. Linda Ridley has put her snowmen out for everyone to see for over 20 years. “She gets them out every year for the family,” said Buck Ridley, Linda’s son. “The family can bring over whoever they want to see them. She has one that’s 20 feet fall and some all the way down to an inch. She’s been collecting them for years.” Linda Ridley has snowmen made from glass, crochet, pillows, stuffed snowmen and fiber optic ones. Snowmen are also distributed to every room in the house, including the bathrooms. She begins the Friday after Thanksgiving by taking the books down from a bookcase where some will be displayed and getting the snowmen out of the storage of the family business, Coweta Car Care in Sharpsburg. It takes her about two weeks to put the snowmen in their respective places. “We call it the snowmen migration,”
