Spring is in the air, and warmer temperatures are coaxing residents out of winter hibernation and into the county in search of entertainment. The month of March has plenty to offer locals, from theatre arts to music performances. “We have several great events coming this month at the Nixon Centre,” said Brittney Henderson of the Donald W. Nixon Centre for Performing and Visual Arts. The venue is located at 1523 Lower Fayetteville Road in Newnan, and will offer everything from music to a one-day only visual art sale and exhibit this month. Many Coweta residents grew up with Lamb Chop, a sock puppet brought to life by ventriloquist Shari Lewis. Now, following her mother’s death, Mallory Lewis is bringing the little lamb back to entertain a new generation. The event includes interactive entertainment suited for audiences of all ages. Tickets are available now for the March 12 performance and can be purchased online at www.thenixoncentre.net. On March 24, beginning at 7 p.m., the Nixon Centre presents Voice Play, as seen on Season 4 of NBC’s “The Sing Off.” The five-part a cappella group offers an entire musical production with no instruments, and members are known not only for song but for humor. The performance is suitable for all ages, and tickets can be purchased online. The Society of Seven, Newnan’s own collection of seven plein-air artists will honor the late Gene Chesnut with a one-day only art sale at page 4

PROGRAM ORIENTATION MARCH 15, 18 By SARAH FAY CAMPBELL sarah@newnan.com Local homeowners with financial need have a chance to get critical repairs done to their homes through the “Brush with Kindness” program at Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity. The first step in qualifying for assistance through the program is attending an orientation meeting. The next orientation meetings will be March 15 and March 18. There will also be orientation meetings on April 12 and 15. Pre-registration is required. Habitat can help homeowners with critical repairs, weatherization and beautification projects. Homeowners must put in 25 hours of “sweat equity” and may be asked to repay a portion of the cost of the projects, based on income. The sweat equity doesn’t have to be actual construction work. Volunteering at Habitat’s ReStore or at the office qualifies, and friends and family can also help fulfill the work requirement. Brush with Kindness is similar to a pro1 Xtra front

casting producer Lauren Levine. “They're out to prove that confidence breeds success, and they are looking for nominations,” Levine wrote in a letter to the city of Newnan. “Whether it's your brother, father, husband, colleague or a close friend, if you know a deserving man with a compelling story, we want to hear about it.” To nominate a man you think deserves the makeover of a lifetime, according to Levine, email QEcasting@gmail.com with your name, contact information, a recent photo of the person you're nominating and their story.
