Singer-songwriter Michelle Malone is no stranger to travel, having toured extensively during her 20-year music career.

But the Atlanta-born rocker maintains that when it comes to the music scene in her native state, there is no place like home.

“Georgia has not gotten the credit it deserves in the area of music,” Malone said of her home state. “Part of it is because we are a hub for so many types of music.”

NCAA Continued from page 1

The NCAA, established in Coweta in 1968, allows both longstanding and newly joined members to enter the annual competition, including artists working in a variety of mediums and at a range of skill levels.

Victoria Perez was one of several artists new to the NCAA whose works were selected as part of the exhibit at the Nixon Centre. Perez, a retired art educator, joined the local art association just two months prior to the show.

“I have three pieces hanging in the show,” Perez said. “I joined the NCAA to connect with other area artists and I’m thrilled to have my work displayed here.”

Perez is inspired by both the tight

lines of architecture and by the organic shapes found in nature. Both subjects were represented in her displayed paintings, which included, “Autumn Blowing in the Wind,” “Last Picture, Folly Field Beach, Hilton Head, S.C.,” and “Sunset at Folly Field Beach, S.C.” Another recently added NCAA member, Sonia I. Thompson said she entered the contest not even knowing the show was a competition, and was subsequently elated to find that three of her photographs were chosen as part of the exhibit.

“I was encouraged to join and to send some work,” Thompson said. “I’m happy to have work in the show and my brother-in-law too, Mick Brandenberger, has his work displayed tonight.”

Heavy breathing

If so, did you think they were talking about healthy living?

If your answer to number 2 was “No,” you may be missing out on the most important health trend to hit the scene since the Thighmaster.

It’s all about air. It’s all about breathing. And at least one couple swear that’s all a human needs to survive. Air. A nd a hea lthy dose of the “energ y of the universe.”

Don’t believe it? Just ask Akahi Ricardo and his wife, Camila Castel lo. T hese t wo ca l l themselves “Breatharians.” Breath-arians, as in “breathe” The pair was recently interviewed by The (UK) Sun. Ms. Castello told The Sun, “Humans can easily be without food — as long as they are connected to the energy that exists in all things and through breathing.”

Maybe Castello ca n “easily be without food,” but at least 7 billion other residents of planet Earth aren’t convinced. Some of us cling blindly to the belief that humans need food and water to survive. To borrow a phrase from Global Warming disciples, “The science is settled.”

When I read the story, I was skeptical. I looked for clues that the couple might not be just crazy, but altogether bogus or even imaginary.

My suspicion s rose when the story didn’t give the pair’s actual address, but said “the couple live

between California and Ecuador.” That’s a vague location so I whipped out my world map to narrow things down. If you draw a line between the middle of California and the middle of Ecuador, you wind up pretty near Tampico, Mexico. Maybe a few miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

I investigated Tampico.

Paydirt. A post on www. unexplained-mysteries. com said, “It is a local legend that UFOs protect Tampico from hurricanes. The area hasn't h ad a ser ious one i n decades. The story goes that the aliens have their base in the sea, just off the coast.”

In other words, these Breatharians are probably space aliens.

Good for them. But where does that leave a human like me, who scans diet fads the way some people scan the stock market, looking for the next “big thing.”

Nowhere. Back to the healthy lifestyle drawing board. I'm just starting my Third Act, and I want to look like a star when

the curtain opens and I take a bow.

That will mean a little more exercise and a lot less food.

Exercise is no problem. I just need to do it.

And now that the treadmill is running again I can spend hours each day binge-walking through epi sodes of “A ncient Aliens” and “Expedition Unknown.”
