Cowetans share inauguration experience in Washington D.C. Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States at the nation’s capital, and several Cowetans attended the historical event.

January • Newnan Waff le House waitress Heather “Shorty” Burkinshaw-Stanley makes national headlines following a gun incident. Burkinshaw-Stanley was fired from a Newnan Waffle House after she shot her handgun during a robbery in late December. • D r ew Fer g u s on b e c ome s t he Congressman for Coweta County and the 3rd District. • Community rallies around fire victims. After losing everything to a fire, the Jackson family received a wealth of community support after a fire ravaged their barn and home. • A f ter foreca sts of w inter weather, Coweta residents are disappointed by the absence of snow. • It’s the end of an era at Newnan High School as Mike McDonald resigns as head football coach. McDonald, 45, had been at New n a n for 10 ye a r s , sta r ting a s the tea m’s defensive coordinator in 2007. McDonald took over as head coach in 20 0 9 after long-time Cougars head coach Robert Herring retired.

• Sen. Matt Brass and Rep. Josh Bonner are sworn in. Brass represents G eorgia Senate District 28, which covers all of Coweta and Heard counties and portions of south Fulton, Carroll, and Troup Counties. Bonner represents House District 72, which covers the southeast corner of Coweta, including Senoia and Haralson, as well as portions of Fayette County including Brooks and part of Peachtree City.
