melanie@newnan.com Zombies a nd a va riety of superheroe s i nvaded the intersection of Madison and Jefferson Streets for a little smack talk and a whole lot of fun. T he g roup combi ned force s du r i n g t he si x t h annual Zombie and Superhero Day, which was presented by Full Circle Toys. Zombies wa l ked the street for a little frightful fun. “ I f we s c a r e t h e m i n t he d ay t i me , it ’s not a s bad a nd we won’t get a r r e s t e d ,” s a i d z o m b i e Brayden Bartholf. “I just like to have fun with it a nd show people what we like to do,” said zombie Riley Miller. But t he zombies met their match when Supergirl, Batma n, Spiderma n, stormtroopers a nd a whole host of ot her characters showed up to show off their superhero strengths. Young children dressed as their favorite charact e r s a n d to o k p i c t u r e s with them. E i g h t-ye a r- old B r iley Matt hews sa id she enjoyed meeting the stormt rooper s . “ I love St a r Wa rs a nd superheroes ,” she said. Her cousin, Brock Olmstead , 5, m ade su re to keep his balloon-created l ig ht saber h a ndy a s he
posed for a photo with a stormtrooper. T here were plent y of activities for kids to enjoy, such as a bouncy castle, inf latable slide, paintball arena, dunking booth, ice cream vendor and a meet a nd greet wit h a cast of characters. “Every year we bring in some different characters and the kids believe they a re re a l . T h e y s c re a m , ‘ T h e re ’s S up e r m a n ! O r There’s Darth Vader – and t h e y re a l ly b el ie ve it ’s t hem wa l k i ng dow n t he street,” said Kelli Mix, coowner of Full Circle Toys. Ch i ld ren who d ressed up competed in a costume contest and won various prizes. “It’s an early Halloween for them,” Mix added. She admitted Full Circle Toys a lso had a bigger mission in mind when planning the annual event. “It brings people to the downtown Newnan area. For us, it’s also like a customer appre ci at ion d ay because ever y t h i ng is free,” Mix explained. “It’s g o i n g g r e a t a n d g r o wing in size. This year we extended it one extra hour due to popular demand.” T he Newna n Police Department and the Newnan Fire Department were on hand with various vehicles, giving kids to u r s a n d h a n d i n g o u t lifesaving information.
