Each year, seniors are g ra nted schola rsh ips from the colleges and universities they will attend. The se schola r sh ips are awarded based on a variety of qualifications, including academics, athletics, character, leadership and service. The following students in Newnan High School’s Class of 2019 have been awarded scholarships from their chosen colleges and universities:
Mason McK ibbon, son of Darrell McKibbon and Lisa McKibbon, has received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Scholarship from the University of North Georgia in the amount of $1,325 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $5,300.
Amelia Cook, daughter of Page Beckwith and Charles Cook, received Lipscomb University’s Academic Scholarship, Engineering Merit Scholarship, State Scholarship, Raymond B. Jones College of Engineering Scholarship, and Access to Success Scholarship in the amount of $20,500 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $82,000.
Taren Powell Brown, son of Jada Ingram, has received the Knock Knock Children’s Museum Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 per year and the Science Residential College Scholarship from Louisiana State University in the amount of $10,000 per year, both renewable for four years for a total amount of $48,000.
Mackenzie Snyder, daughter of Jason and Shannon Snyder, has received the Gamecock Spirit Scholarship from Jacksonville State University in the amount of $2,000 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $8,000.
Ashleigh Smitherman, daughter of Randy and Amanda Smitherman, has received an Academic and Athletic Scholarship from Truett-McConnell College in the amount of $17,500 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $70,000.
Maxwell Owen, son of Wendy Owen and Jay Owen, has received the Athletic Scholarship for the Clay Target Team from Emmanuel College.
Kiley Cox, daughter of Ashley Verdon and Eddie Cox, received a scholarship from Jacksonville State University in the amount of $3,500 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $14,000.
Alyssa Brauchler, daughter of Horst and Lynn Brauchler, has received the Samford Presidential Scholarship from Samford University in the amount of $18,500 per year, renewable for four years for a total amount of $74,000.
Austi n T hor nton, son of Nick and Sherry Thornton, has received the Florida State University College of Music Scholarship from Florida State University in the amount of $2,500 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $10,000.
Will Anderson, son of Scott and Katie Anderson, has received the Great American Rivalry Series Scholar Athlete Award in the amount of $250.
Nate Pylant, son of Terrell and Angela Pylant, has received the Academic Merit Scholarship from Belmont University in the amount of $6,000 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $24,000.
Sarah Culbreth, daughter of Staci Culbreth, has received the Talent and Merit Scholarship from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in the amount of $14,000 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $56,000.
Madeline Wall, daughter of Kevin and Denise Wall, has received the Blazer Gold Scholarship from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in the amount of $12,000 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $48,000.
Heather Sibley, daughter of Stephen and Stephanie Sibley, has received the Foundation Committee Award Alumni Legacy Scholarship from the University of West Georgia in the amount of $1,000.
James David Markel, son of Jim and Suzanne Markel, has received the Charter Scholarship from the University of Georgia in the amount of $2,000 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $8,000.
Elizabeth Woodham, daughter of Dan and Jennifer Woodham, has received the Dean’s Scholarship, the Founders Scholarship, the Leadership Scholarship, the Legacy Scholarship, and the University Scholarship from Samford University in the amount of $17,600 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $70,400.
Natalia Ferguson Warthen, daughter of John and Magda Warthen, has received the Michigan State University College of Music Scholarship, Saxophone Performance Scholarship, Samuel Hartt Scholarship and In-State Tuition Waiver Scholarship in the amount of $45,000 per year, renewable for four years for a total of $180,000.
