lmost four years ago now, Georgia Minor was born to proud parents Patrick and Kimberly. Georgia has Trisomy 18, also known Edwards Syndrome, a condition that occurs in about one out of every 2,500 pregnancies in the U.S. and one out of every 6,000 live births, according to the Trisomy 18 Foundation. Only 50 percent of babies who are carried to term are born alive, and approximately 10 percent of those babies survive to their first birthdays. But Georgia continues to defy these odds, and she will celebrate her fourth birthday on Jan. 15. Georgia undergoes physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy every week. She also finished her third round of neurosuit therapy in September, a therapy designed to help the body stay compacted and develop correctly.

Kimberly said the neurosuit was originally designed for astronauts who were in space for an extended period of time. It helped keep their joints and muscles compacted to avoid damage while they were in zero gravity for weeks to months at a time. “Not a lot of people realize that just standing and walking around helps your body maintain its natural functions,” Kimberly said. “I researched the therapy, and we got really lucky and found a clinic near us that offered it.” The neurosuit therapy Georgia attends is offered in three-week periods, five days a week for four hours a day. “The kids come in and wear these neurosuits and do very intense physical therapy for four hours straight,” Kimberly said. “It’s hard on them because they’re kids.
