eginning June 15, R.A.W. Body Essentials, a highend Hawaii-based bath and body boutique, is proud to offer the Coweta County area an upscale, authentic natural beauty experience at an affordable price. Located in Ashley Park, this will be the studio’s second location- a flagship retail store is located on the island of Oahu. Product creationist and founder Ceandrys Black, who is originally from New Orleans, wanted to expand to the U.S. mainland, and knew she wanted to bring “some Aloha to the South.” Black explained, “I can’t explain much about the decision to open in Newnan, except that I fell in love with it, and God wanted me to be here. The people are so openly kind. It’s the City of Homes, and home means family to me- you know, the Hawaiian concept of ‘Ohana.’” Add to that the lush greenery and open blue sky of the Ashley Park location, and it just felt right.”
According to Black, The acronym “R.A.W.” stands for “Releasing Authentic Women,” but, with an entire line of beard oils and balms, and child-safe bath products, there is plenty to appeal to the entire family. In addition, R.A.W. highlights a full spectrum of deodorants without baking soda along with color-free bath bombs. “R.A.W. thrives because it enjoys the unique ability to craft and design its natural products around the unique needs, preferences, and stylings of its customers. In other words, R.A.W. designs around ‘the essentials’,” says Black. On any given day, Black, who is a Certified Aromatherapy Specialist, can be found mixing a creamy batch of body butters or crafting a new antioxidant-filled soap recipe. Black is relentless, spending endless hours on research and recipe crafting, so you don't have to. She R.A.W. . 3

Senoia celebrates its veterans with annual event BY SCOTT LUDWIG news@newnan.com
T
he city of Senoia held its annual Memorial Day Remembrance Celebration to honor and remember veterans this past weekend. Senoia's Downtown Development Authority created the event in 2006 and 15 years later it remains a staple of the city. Last year's event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In its first year, many of the World War II veterans in attendance lived in Senoia. “Over the years, many have been lost, so now Veterans from neighboring counties in Georgia are invited,” says Promotions Committee Chairman Gail Downs. On Saturday, the event included a celebration at Marimac Lakes Park that featured entertainment, food trucks, a children's area and a fireworks display as a grand finale. Monday, however, was a day full of activities. The day kicked off with a ceremony honoring veterans at Senoia Cemetery. The graves of more than 160 veterans were adorned with American flags, courtesy of Boy Scout Troop 46 from Turin. An invocation by Dan Roberts, pastor of Legacy Christian Church in Senoia, was followed by a rendition of the national anthem from Tammie Adams and a bagpipe solo performed by Michael Scoott, a Newnan resident and member of the Order of the Tartans. The Commemorative Air Force and Falcon RV Squadron performed a flyover in the missing man formation. After the ceremony, Senoia resident Jim McKnight drove a tram for veterans to ride and tour the local neighborhoods. American Legion Post 50 of Peachtree City provided a fire truck for veterans as well. Residents driv-
ing their personal golf carts followed behind in a parade. At the end of the parade, the fire truck stopped at City Hall for a dedication of a retired flag mailbox installed in front of city hall for people to discard torn or tattered U.S. flags. The mailbox was also donated by ALP50. World War II army vehicles, courtesy of the Georgia Military Vehicle Preservation Association, were displayed throughout the day in downtown Senoia, where a second program was conducted. An invocation was given by Kelly Dickinson, a chaplain with ALP50. He called out the names of nine veterans lost since 2019. Adams and Scott followed by performing "God Bless America" and "America the Beautiful" and another bagpipe solo. State House Rep. Philip Singleton then provided a message of hope and remembrance at the ceremony and read the poem "The Fiddler's Green," a portrayal of an afterlife for military persons full of mirth, music and dancing. A moment of remembrance to honor fallen veterans, a playing of "Taps" and one last flyover concluded the weekend's celebration. Regrettably, William Gatlin, World War II Veteran and French teacher at Russell High School in East Point, was unable to attend for the first time since the inception of the event. Gail Downs, who was a student of William Gatlin many years ago, undoubtedly shared his thoughts as she summed up a very special day in Senoia: “This day is all about the veterans and the sacrifices they made to make the country what it is today. This event is very meaningful to me: I have so much admiration and respect for World War II Veterans,” Downs said.
