oweta County Parks and Recreation Department held a youth mountain biking from June 7 to 10. There were 30 participants aged 6-12.
Chris Doane, an orchestrator of the camp, prioritized the participants' safety. “There is some inherent risk in doing anything like this,” said Doane. “But you put in the measures to make sure the equipment works correctly.” He continued, saying that most injuries that result from bike rid-

West Georgia Newnan artists complete mural
BY JOE ADGIE

A Ariana Culver and Piper Heaton, students at the University of West Georgia, show off their mural recently completed at the university’s Newnan campus. The colorful mural pays tribute to the history of the facility, which started life in the 1920s as the Newnan Hospital.

pair of artists from the University of West Georgia’s Newnan campus have painted a beautiful mural on campus that highlights the building’s past, present and future. Ariana Culver and Piper Heaton, students at West Georgia Newnan, recently completed the work, a colorful design featuring a number of items that can be found around the campus. The mural won a contest held at the school during the spring semester. The mural can be seen near the back entrance of the University of West Georgia Newnan campus, and was completed around two weeks ago. “For the first design, before we actually located this location, (the mural) was based on architecture, but it didn’t have any history from this building. Architecture is an occupation that I like but don’t really want to be involved in. I always try to include it in my work because it’s very fascinating.” Culver said when she and Heaton came to West Georgia’s Newnan campus and found out about the history behind the facility, they knew they had to incorporate that history into their mural. Included in the mural are multiple references to the building’s history, including its past as the Old Newnan Hospital. That can be seen in the surgical lights included in the mural. Those surgical lights are still present at the West Georgia Newnan campus. “It was really cool that they kept it,” Culver said. “I’m glad they kept it.” Culver said she enjoyed going back and forth for what would be the best look for the design for the mural. “We both love geometric art, so that was already incorporated in that first design, and I really love neon colors, so I definitely wanted that incorporated
as well. The blue, green, orange background is, I guess you could say a collage of tiles they have together on the top floor, and we felt it was interesting artistically.” Another highlight of the mural is a nod to a sculpture of materials created at the R.D. Cole Manufacturing plant, located on the east side of downtown, across the street from the Historic Train Depot. The sculpture appears alongside multiple blueprint artworks, a reference to the blueprint art that appears in different locations at the West Georgia Newnan campus. “We wanted the piece to stand out on its own, but also be able to look at it as a group on the wall,” Culver said. “How can we find something that all three have in common while making each other stronger.” Culver’s art can be found on Instagram at @viioletarii.art, while Heaton’s work can be found at @piepurr.art. Beloved, be vigilant to cling to and find life in Father God, His love, and His eternal kingdom. Jesus prayed, “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3 I challenge you to look upward and reset your thinking today by reading and asking the Holy Spirit for revelation of Ephesians 1. Align your heart and mind accordiing to these truths that reveal who you are in Jesus Christ: redeemed, forgiven, chosen, the recipient of a great inheritance, and so much more. Knowing yourself in your Savior girds you with everlasting joy!

BIKE CAMP FROM PAGE 1
The camp ran from 9 a.m. to noon. In those three hours, campers practiced bike handling, drills and they rode on the trails. The volunteers ensured the kids had several challenges that promoted safety while remaining fun. One challenge was similar to limbo. Participants rode underneath a bar. After each round, the bar lowered until one camper remained. At the end of the three-day camp, Doane awarded Claire Foster with the “Bike Coweta Rockstar Award.” He said Claire attended camp last year. She was timid and scared to participate in the drills and ride on the trails. However, she pushed through, and by the end of the camp, she enjoyed riding. From the end of last year's camp to the current year, she was confident in her abilities. “After camp last year, she joined a mountain bike club,” Doane said. “Coming into camp this year, she had a different personality.” Doane said that the Mountain Bike camp promotes health and wellness for kids. “What it does is it gets kids out of the house. It is a great activity to get them to appreciate green space,” said Doane. “When kids are presented with fun ways to stay active, they are more likely to lead a healthier lifestyle.

NTH Pet of the Week
hi!
MarkeTplace
My name is:
Manilla M
anilla is a friendly female Staffordshire mix who has been at the Coweta Animal Services shelter since May 17. She was picked up as a stray from Newton Road. No estimated age is indicated on her records.Manilla loves to be loved on, and is a fairly calm dog. She is good with other dogs, both male and female, good with other people and is kennel trained. She loves playing with other dogs. If another dog shows aggression, she'll just walk away, said shelter workers. Manilla appears to have recently had puppies, though the puppies did not come into the shelter with her. She is heartworm positive. Though the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society is not currently able to cover the cost of heartworm treatment, a new heartworm protocol is now an option. Monthly use of Advantage Multi, at approximately $20 per month, and one month of the antibiotic doxycycline, can often be used to eliminate a heartworm infection over 10 to 12 months.
